1 2013 Issue 2 ~ Owner s Journal President s message Dear Fellow Timeshare Owners, I was able to attend the various Timeshare Owner Association (TSOA) board meetings and annual owners meeting in person this year at the Hawaiian Princess. A lot better than sitting home in California with my foot in the air to keep my fractured ankle from swelling like last year. It was good to see some owners faces I haven t seen in a while. We all appreciate your participation in the meeting either in-person or by proxy. For those owners on site, thank you for taking time away from the beach to attend the owners meeting. Overall, the Hawaiian Princess (HP) management staff, Trading Places International s (TPI) senior director, and TSOA board members worked very well together in the review of financial, collection, foreclosure, and sales reports. Lloyd Onishenko and Jerry Gautreau were re-elected to the board. Their term is for three years. We are pleased to see that the working relationship developed over last year in the formulation of the budget will be maintained this year with the continuing board members and their contributions. The entire board, as your representatives, will continue to review areas that will possibly need improvement while at the same time building the monies in the reserve account. The continual monitoring of the bathroom renovation costs resulted in completing a major expenditure of funds under budget. Also, devoting more time to the collection and foreclosure process had enabled the TSOA to get control of several weeks this last year. These were offered for sale using auction procedures in December. Our primary goal continues to be keeping timeshare ownership at a high level, which results in more income to the timeshare association through maintenance fee payments. This year, the TSOA added an additional meeting with the Apartment Owner Association (AOAO). The main agenda this year was to establish communication and clarify the House Rules and late check-in procedures. When you are able to visit, please take time to review the publication in your unit in order to stay current on any additional and/or changes of procedures to follow while at the Hawaiian Princess. Just a quick note: My bride Joy & I celebrated our 56th anniversary on March 14th at HP. Also, we now are greatgrandparents for the sixth time. I am glad we aren t getting old. It is now spring and the temperature has been between 79 and 82 degrees. We have seen rain at least twice a week but, as the guests say, Who cares? We are in Hawaii. Thank you to all who attended the annual board meeting. Or, if you couldn t attend, thank you for making sure your proxies were submitted. Let s give a warm welcome back to Jerry Gautreau and Lloyd Onishenko, both of whom were re-elected onto our timeshare board. A few friendly reminders: Communication: Please don t be alarmed if you receive a courtesy call from us. About a week or two prior to you arriving, we do our best to confirm your reservation. After-Hours Arrivals: We now have an after-hours lock box placed outside the timeshare office. Please call us beforehand for instructions. Security no longer handles this process. Activities: Pool and rec room hours are back to 9:00 am 10:00 pm. House Rules: Updates are being made to the House Rules. Please review the in-room books during each visit for updates and changes. 3 Board Meeting Highlights The board of directors met on February 28, The following are highlights from the meeting. Annual Meeting Highlights February 28, 2013 The board reviewed and discussed: November 2012 through January 2013 financial statements Delinquency report Occupancy reports Sales Report On-Site Management Report Comment cards II Membership Benefit Summary Energy Surcharge and Electrical Expenses AOAO updates January Update: At their last meeting, the AOAO board discussed no longer having security staff assist in handing out the TSO after-hours envelopes. Tom McLaughlin informed the board that the AOAO board agreed to meet with the TSO board on Friday March 1, Things To Do * The board approved to: Accept the financial statements of November 2012 through January 2013 Accept the minutes of the December 6, 2012 and January 24, 2013 meetings Proceed with the in-house headboard option Purchase a new Wi-Fi booster The board directed management to: Review the lighting and outlets in the bathrooms and bring proposals/options to the board for review. February Update: There would be an upcoming power outage for the replacement of a transformer by the electric company. Security staff would be attending the mandatory eight hours of state training. A committee would be formed to review the guest arrival and registration process, and Kim Antonio was invited to participate. LEI DAY CELEBRATION May 1 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Queen Kapiolani Regional Park The 86th annual event features the annual lei queen and court, as well as local entertainment. See some of the most beautiful lei in the world exhibited in a variety of colors and styles. In addition to Kulana Lei, craft, lei and food vendors will also be in the park all day. The event is free and open to the public. HONOLULU TRIATHLON May 19 4:00 am - 1:00 pm Ala Moana Beach Park Triathletes from around the world visit Oahu each May to compete in the Honolulu Triathlon. The 10th annual event features a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run courses that begin and end at Ala Moana Park. KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION FLORAL PARADE & HOOLAULEA June 8 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Kapiolani Park This celebration honors the reign of King Kamehameha, who was responsible for uniting the Hawaiian Islands under his rule in The 97th annual event begins at the King Kamehameha Statue in downtown Honolulu across from Iolani Palace and ends at the Queen Kapiolani Park, Hoolaulea. The annual owner s meeting was held on March 1, 2013: Approved the minutes of the 2011 meeting President Isaacs provided an update on the board s activity over the last year Tom McLaughlin provided AOAO updates Lloyd Onishenko presented the financial report Lloyd Onishenko and Jerry Gautreau were elected to the board Energy Efficiency WE NEED YOUR HELP! Turn off the air conditioning when your lanai door is open or if you will be out for the day Turn down the air conditioning when you leave your unit for a brief period Turn off lights and electronics when not in use Unplug any unnecessary personal electronics Don t over-dry your laundry Wash your clothes in old water Use an air-dry setting on the dishwasher if available ALA MOANA CENTER 4th OF JULY SPECTACULAR July 4 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm Ala Moana Centre Live concerts by Hawaii s own entertainers are to be enjoyed by all. This 22nd annual celebration will feature the most dazzling 4th of July fireworks display in Hawaii. Centerstage - 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm Parking Deck Concert - 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm Fireworks Spectacular - 8:30 pm WAIKIKI ARTFEST July 27 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Kapiolani Park The Waikiki Artfest will feature of Hawaii s finest artists and handcraft artisans who will have their own art for display and for sale. Live entertainment and fantastic food will be available for all guests to enjoy. Located at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, directly across from the entrance to the Honolulu Zoo. It s already April and space at Hawaiian Princess is booking fast! When should I book my reservation? Reservations at Hawaiian Princess can be made 11 months to the month in advance. For example, the first day to book any dates in May 2014 is June 1st, The earlier you contact us to arrange your dates, the better. Please note that all reservations are subject to availability. If you haven t made plans for your 2013 week, please call us today! I don t plan to go to Hawaiian Princess with my 2013 week, but I don t want to lose it. What should I do? If you re not able to travel, or just don t want to go to the Hawaiian Princess with that week, you still have plenty of options. Why not put your week up for rent with the Trading Places owner rental program? Or if you have a friend or family member who wants to visit the resort, you can send them as a guest using your week. And of course, there is always the option to deposit your week with Trading Places Exchange or Interval International for an exchange. When does my 2013 week expire? Your 2013 week is good until September 30, 2014; however, please be sure to make arrangements early as all reservations are subject to availability. What about my 2012 week? If you have not done anything with your 2012 week, please contact Owner Services as soon as possible. These weeks must be scheduled for travel prior to September 30, 2013, subject to availability; otherwise, they will be lost. How do I contact Owner Services?
