1 The Urban Farm at Stapleton Smith Rd Denver, CO Plant Sale May 8 & 9, 2:00-6:00 pm, May 10 10:00 am 5:00 pm What is an Heirloom? An old cultivar that is "still maintained by gardeners and farmers particularly in isolated or ethnic communities". 1 These may have been commonly grown during earlier periods in human history, but are not used in modern large-scale agriculture. One school of thought places an age or date point on the cultivars. For instance, one school says the cultivar must be over 100 years old, others 50 years, and others prefer the date of 1945 which marks the end of World War II and roughly the beginning of widespread hybrid use by growers and seed companies. 1 Seed Savers Exchange Descriptions of the available plants for our plants sale listed below. Descriptions are taken from seed packets. Seeds are non-gmo, non-treated, open pollinated, and/or organic seed.
