2 Crop Update Apples & Pears New crop Gala, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Fuji, and Red Delicious are available out of Washington. As we progress further along into September, we will see more and more varieties come along. Quality has been good on both new and storage crop fruit. Washington is in full swing of new crop pear season, with excellent quality on all varietals. Avocados Supplies in MX are steady with the Flora Local crop continuing harvest. California volume is almost at the end of the season with a few packers still packing fruit. Overall quality is good. Markets are steady. Asparagus Central Mexico crop finishes due to seasonality. Supplies out of Northern Baja are light. Supplies from Peru are steady. Overall quality is good and markets are steady. Broccoli Market has adjusted lower as the gap has narrowed in the Salinas Valley and Santa Maria areas. Fields that were slated for harvest next week have been brought forward and will be harvested this week. Quality is good with slight purpling, some mechanical damage, and occasional yellow bead. Look for supplies to continue to increase into next week. Cauliflower Berries Overall, the quality has been good. The quality reports have shown weights in the 25 to 28-pound level, little yellow cast to cream color, medium consistent diameter and clean jackets. Look for this market to continue to improve as shippers are a little ahead of schedule. Blackberries Availability has quickly changed as production has dropped off in Salinas, Watsonville & Pacific NW. All growing areas are now fairly steady but light volume. Expect light volumes and transitional gap over the next 3-4 weeks until Mexico kicks in. Raspberries Supplies remain light but steady; however it is projected that supply will ramp up over the next few weeks. Salinas, Watsonville and Santa Maria will phase out as Oxnard, Baja and Mexico start up. Quality is general has been good and should remain stable. Strawberry Supplies are more limited than projected. Summer harvest is winding down and fall harvest is only just started expect a transitional gap over the next 3-4 weeks until Oxnard and Mexico start up in early October. Quality continues to be challenge, some darker berry issues, early decay and/or bruising. Blueberry Supplies continue to be lighter. As September progresses import fruit will hit the supply chain starting with Peruvian fruit followed by Argentina and Chile. The immediate outlook for the next week or so is higher prices and lighter supplies.

Potatoes Lemons: Sunkist has declared an Act of God situation on Lemon pricing due to record temperatures in the Ventura/ Santa Paula area. The Market remains extremely higher than normal. We will be in a demand exceeds supply into October. Quality is being reported as fair at best with arrivals showing mold, soft rot and decay.. Oranges: We continue to see an extreme shortage of supplies with small Valencia oranges. The market for all sizes is much higher than normal prices. We will continue to lean on Chilean fruit to help with shortage. We are still 4-6 weeks away from new crop California navel season to start. The quality of the remaining Valencia crop is fair at best with soft rot, decay and mold. Bell Peppers Green bells are currently out of the Coastal California growing areas with steady volume, however due to recent weather on the Eastcoast we could see a drop in available volume. Red and Yellow s volume is expected to transition to the Coastal California growing areas. Markets are steady and quality is great. Russets are peaking are larger sized spuds and quality has been good. Quality has been good on all colors and sizes out of all growing areas.
