4 Production Insurance Update Variable weather always poses a challenge to Ontario producers but that s what Agricorp is here for. If weather or poor quality is a risk to your farming operation, PI can help manage that risk. Remember your farm is unique and so is your coverage! Why PI? As a producer, you have to deal with many factors beyond your control that can have a serious impact on your crop s production and your income. Production Insurance (PI) helps to financially protect your business from crop losses caused by insured perils and can compensate your for your low yield and/or poor quality crop. If you would like to enrol in Production Insurance for 2015 If you did not have Production Insurance in 2014 and would like to enrol for 2015, be sure to contact Agricorp prior to December 20, An Agricorp adjuster will visit you to discuss your crop plan options and establish your premium deposit. Your premium deposit is 25 per cent of an estimated underwritten liability at the time of application. Payment is due by December 20, Final premium payment is due in the spring. An Agricorp adjuster will visit you prior to May 1 to finalize your underwriting. If you are renewing you Production Insurance in 2015 You will receive your renewal package outlining your coverage options and deposit amount for Your coverage will reflect the coverage you chose last year, unless you contact us to change your coverage options. Grapes and grapevines The table below shows the customer portion of the premium rate. Changes to the premium rates in 2015 The grape premium rates have decreased slightly over the 2014 premium rates. Grape Category 2015 Customer premium rates by coverage level (percentage of liability) 70% 75% 80% 85% Labrusca French Hybrid Vinifera * *A portion of this premium rate is funded at a high-cost level. Grower contributes approximately 67 per cent and the federal and provincial governments contribute approximately 33 per cent of the high cost portion. For most plans and plan options, the premium rate cost sharing is 40% customer, 60% governments. 4 November 2014
