Use this handbook to complete your entry form. Entry forms must be completely filled out and signed. 2. Livestock Entries: Please see the Livestock Handbook for Rules and Entry Forms. 3. Entry forms and handbook are available on our website at 4. Entry forms and fees must be physically at the Fair Office by Monday, June 12, 2017 (no postmark). 5 LOCAL RULES 1. Applicable State Rules apply in all departments. State Rules are available online and in the Fair Administration Office. 2. LOCAL CLASSES (Other than Livestock) Entries are open to only residents and/or producers of those counties as follows: ALPINE, CALAVERAS, MARIPOSA, STANISLAUS, and TUOLUMNE, unless otherwise stated. 3. No entry fee will be refunded except as provided in the State Rules. Entry fees appear preceding each Division of the Exhibitors Handbook. No refunds of entry fees will be made for amounts of less than $ Any check returned by the bank for any reason will be levied a $25 return check charge. Any Exhibitor that hasn t made good on a returned check will have their entries disqualified from judging. 5. All entries must remain in place until the close of Fair. Exhibits (excluding livestock) will be released from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. and 4p.m. 6p.m. Monday, July 10, No exceptions will be made for the above rule except by written permission from the Fair Manager or as otherwise stated herein. 6. If an entry is removed prior to the official release time all awards and premiums will be withheld. 7. Exhibitors must be amateurs unless division or class specifies otherwise. 8. The fair reserves the right to reject any entry if it is objectionable, or if it requires excessive space. 9. No entry will be accepted where an Exhibitor prescribes the condition under which he/she will exhibit. 10. Judging results will not be given over the telephone. 11. Entry forms may be accepted after the official closing date on an ease of processing and space available basis. Late entries will only be accepted when accompanied by a $5 processing fee. 12. The Management will not be responsible for accidents, loss, or theft that may occur to any exhibit at the Fair. Every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of all exhibits. It is under this condition only that entries will be accepted. Any insurance desired on any entry will be the sole responsibility of the Exhibitor. 13. Checks for awards will be made payable to the Exhibitor as indicated on the entry form and will be mailed to the Exhibitor after exhibit is released. 14. All judging is final. The Judging Sheets are the ONLY official record of judging. Cash awards will be paid as recorded on the signed Judging Sheet. 15. Should a premium be found to have been obtained by mis representation or a violation of any of the rules, State or Local, the premium award shall be withheld. 16. All material used in decorating booths, exhibits and displays must comply with the State Fire codes. MOTHER LODE FAIR PROTEST POLICY & PROCEDURES 1. Protests will be considered only if there has been a violation of State or local rules. Decisions of judges, veterinarians, weigh masters and timers cannot be protested and are final. 2. All protests must be presented to the management of the fair in writing within 24 hours of the alleged violation, or 24 hours after results are available to the public. A $50 deposit must accompany protests (cash, money order, or certified check made payable to the Mother Lode Fair) or $100 if the protest relates to violations of State Rules concerning Animal Health. Deposit will be returned if the protest is determined valid. If protest is upheld, the violator may be held liable for any portion of the direct cost incurred by the Fair to resolve the protest. 3. The Fair will make every effort to resolve protests as quickly as possible. 4. Exhibits involved in a filed protest will be eligible to compete until protest is resolved. Classes that involve the protested exhibit will not become official until protest is resolved. 5. The President of the Board of Directors will appoint a committee of two Board Members, and the Fair Manager/CEO or his/her designee to hear and resolve the protest. This committee will be appointed at least 30 days before the opening of the Fair. If any of the members are unavailable, the committee Chairperson may ask another Board Member to serve. 6. Violations of State Rules may be appealed to the Division of Fairs & Expositions. 4

6 VEHICLES 1. No vehicles will be allowed on the Fairgrounds without a parking permit or vehicle permit. 2. Vehicles on the grounds parked in unauthorized areas will be towed away at the owner's expense. 3. A vehicle permit admits only the vehicle. Each occupant must have either a pass, paid admission, or wrist wrap to be allowed admittance. One jar will be opened and judged; the other will be displayed during the Fair. The label must include the product name, the date of preservation, the canning method used, the processing time, the Division and Class. Entries without this information will be disqualified and will not be accepted. Jars that have been judged may be picked up the day after judging. Date will be announced. 8

10 All entries must be home prepared and canned and packaged by the Exhibitor within one year of opening day of the Fair. Items shown at previous Fairs are not eligible. All items being considered for cash awards will be opened. All jars must be STANDARD and SEALED. No paraffin or wax seals. No freezer preserves. A STANDARD JAR is a container specifically designed for canning purposes. Note: Jars must be sealed with RUST FREE RINGS. Entries with rust will be disqualified. (Jars should not be cooled upside down.) Canning Methods: All preserved foods must be processed using one of these canning methods: A.) Water Bath Method or B.) Pressure Canner Method. Steam canners are not recommended because processing times for use with current models have not been adequately researched. Headspace: Directions for canning specify leaving 1/4 inch for jams and jellies, ½ inch for fruits and tomatoes to be processed in boiling water, and from 1 to 1 1/4 inches in low acid foods to be processed in a pressure canner. Note: Correct process time at higher elevations by adding 1 additional minute per 1,000 ft. above sea level. Labels must be placed on each jar. The canning method and processing time may be listed as follows: EXAMPLE If the Water Bath Method is used for 35 minutes, list as A/35 min. Or, if the Pressure Canner Method is used for 20 minutes, list as B/20 min. All vegetables must be canned under pressure. Tomatoes & fruits must be processed in a boiling water bath. Container must be preplanted, and contain a minimum of 5 varieties of plants to be eligible. Plants should be labeled. 2. Miniature Gardens must contain at least 3 varieties of plants to be eligible. Exhibits in the Floriculture Department, except arrangements, must have been grown by the exhibitor. 2. Exhibitors must have owned potted plants for at least six (6) months and African violets for three (3) months prior to the fair. 3. Horticulture exhibits must have been grown by the Exhibitor at least three months prior to the Fair. There is no time limit on terrariums. 4. Plants and arrangements must not be any larger or heavier than exhibitor can handle. 5. There will be a place provided to arrange flowers prior to entering them. Some plant foliage must be left on cut flowers. 6. All pots must be clean. Cans are not acceptable as containers. All pots must have drainage saucers. 7. All flowering type plants must be in bloom with flowers as nearly perfect as possible. 8. One plant per pot is allowed unless otherwise noted. 9. No artificial or plastic flowers or foliage permitted, except when specifically stated. Only fresh and dried plant material may be used in the appropriate Divisions, except where otherwise stated. 10. All entries must be in place and complete by the entry closing time. No entries will be accepted after that time. 11. Exhibitors must set up and leave the building within the allotted set up time. This is so employees can prepare for judging. Only fair staff will be allowed in the exhibit building during and after judging. 12. Exhibits may be moved after judging by fair staff only to a permanent place for fair time display. Every effort will be made to set up the display in the same manner it was displayed for judging. 13. Exhibitor s may not move, touch, handle, or rearrange an entry owned by another exhibitor. 14. Please review your entry form for correctness. Each exhibitor is responsible for selecting the proper class to enter. 15. All entries must be picked up within the allotted time. It is your responsibility to make arrangements to recover your items. 16. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to read and follow all instructions and guidelines. Any exhibitor not following these guidelines will be disqualified. 11

Open classes are open to all Arrangers. 2. Place setting is to include napkin, china, glass, and/or cup, place mat or folded material and centerpiece containing any floral material. Silverware & plastic permitted. Maximum space provided is 24" X 18." (Placed horizontally ONLY) 3. Picture Boxes will not be provided. If exhibitor wishes to provide their own box, a space, 23" wide, 28" high and 15" deep shall be provided. Materials shall not extend beyond the front of the box. 12
