1 Fairview Newsletter for the Community of Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut Spring 2016 p o i n t o v i e w View from the Top F airview is proud to announce that we are ranked in the top 5% of all skilled nursing facilities in the state by Medicare standards and continue to maintain our five star rating in all categories. We are also proud to announce that Fairview was chosen as the number one Senior Living Center in The Day s 2016 Reader s Choice Awards! Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day to vote for Fairview! The Art of Chocolate Another Sweet Success T he community response to Fairview s second annual Art of Chocolate which raised over $18,000 warmed our hearts as much as it delighted attendees tastebuds. The competitors dazzling (and delectable) creativity made crowning a champion an enviable but difficult job. The judges perservered and selected Berry s Ice Cream & Candy Bar, LLC as Judges Choice. For a complete list of winners and participants, see page 4.
2 Friendship Love & Truth Fairview Odd Fellows Home of CT 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT MISSION STATEMENT Fairview, the Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut s mission is to provide our residents with the best nursing care and rehabilitation services, while enhancing the quality of their life in a dignified atmosphere by using the skills and compassion of our staff, and utilizing the latest advances in technology. ABOUT FAIRVIEW The Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut was established in 1892 to provide care for the aged and indigent members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, their wives, widows, and orphaned children. A century later the Odd Fellows Home has expanded to include: Fairview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Fellowship Manor and Chelsea Cottage Independent Apartment Living Thames Edge at Fairview Independent Living Homes The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs continue to provide humanitarian care. There are no fraternal restrictions. We welcome individuals and families to apply for admission to our health care center and our senior housing facility. Fairview Point O View Publisher Tricia Cunningham Director of Development and Community Relations cunninghamt@fairviewct.org Reflections A s we welcome springtime to Groton and to Fairview, we are enthused by the renewal that comes with the season. We continue to breathe new life throughout the halls of Fairview and we thank you for your patience as we renovate throughout the building and grounds. We kicked off 2016 with a successful Art of Chocolate fundraiser in January and in February we announced that Fairview was the recipient of a generous grant from Groton Utilities through the Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program to be used on an energy savings project to take place in the building. We are also proud to announce that Fairview was ranked in first place as the best Senior Living Center in The Day s Reader s Choice contest. This is no doubt due to the amazing team at Fairview that works to ensure that best care for all of our residents; 24/7, 365 days a year. FairviewFirst means (to name a few) #1 employees, #1 patient and resident care, and #1 in service to those who rely upon us. Thank you to all who support and dedicate themselves to Fairview in so many ways to help make us a world-class organization. On behalf of Fairview, Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut, I thank you for your continued support of Fairview. James Rosenman CEO & Administrator Design Caffeinated Thinking Fairview point o view 2
3 From left to right: James Rosenman, CEO & Administrator of Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut; Tricia Cunningham, Director of Development of Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut; Betty Anne Reiter, Director of the Groton Public Library; David Collard, General Manager Utility Finance for Groton Utilities; Ronald Gaudet, Director of Utilities at Groton Utilities; and City of Groton Mayor Marian Galbraith. David Collard and Ron Gaudet are holding a Certificate of Recognition that was presented to them jointly by Fairview Odd Fellows Home of CT and the Groton Public Library. Creating Collaboration T he Groton Public Library and Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut co-sponsored an event on Monday, February 22, to thank Groton Utilities and Eversource for their participation in the Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) that provided key funding for energy conservation related projects in both non-profit organizations. Offered by the state of Connecticut, the NAA program is designed to provide funding for municipal and tax exempt organizations by offering a tax credit for businesses that make cash contributions to these entities. A tax credit equal to 100% of the cash invested is available to business firms that invest in energy conservation projects. As the only two projects approved by the Town of Groton, Fairview and the Groton Public Library worked together to identify and educate potential business partners on the NAA program. Fairview applied to replace aging air conditioning units with more energy efficient units and the Library requested funds to replace two rooftop heat pump units and split air conditioning systems with new, energy efficient units. City of Groton Mayor Marian Galbraith, Ronald Gaudet, Director of Utilities at Groton Utilities and David Collard, General Manager Utility Finance for Groton Utilities presented checks for $56, each to James Rosenman, CEO & Administrator of Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut, Inc. and to Betty Anne Reiter, Director of the Groton Public Library. Both projects are expected to start in the next few months and will be completed this year. The event also honored the dedicated work of the Groton Public Library volunteers, Groton Public School students, and staff from both organizations, who have supported the residents of Fairview over the past year. The collaborative outreach programs acknowledged and celebrated at the event included Senior Stories, Homebound services, Reach Out and Read (ROAR) program, and the intergenerational Book Buddies and Pen Pal programs with the fifth grade students of Mary Morrison Elementary School. follow us on facebook 3 spring 2016
