LIFESTYLE Birthdays in October: Happy Birthday to the following residents: 12 October Tina Royen 30 October Wendy Reynolds Resident Feedback Meeting The residents meeting on Wednesday 10 October was attended by 3 residents, and 2 staff members. Discussed: Today s BBQ was excellent and well organised. Suggest for future BBQs to be served with better quality disposable cutlery. Panel of front fence requires maintenance attention as bottom rail is embedded in the soil. NEXT UIT EN THUIS Oaklands Park on Friday 19 October 2018, 10am: Morning Tea, Bingo, Lunch and socialising till 2pm Green Fields on Friday 19 October 2018 at 10am: Morning Tea, Animal Day, Lunch & Socialising till 2pm Goolwa Uit en Thuis in the Community Hub, Cnr Goolwa Tce and Loveday Street Every Thursday from to 4.00pm HEALTHY AGEING Tips for Healthy Bones Eat calcium rich foods, such as milk, yoghurt, cheese, green leafy vegetables, tofu, salmon. Get your sunshine quota. Your body needs Vitamin D to help it absorb calcium. Vitamin D can be found in oily fish, cereals, egg yolks. The body also makes Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. (A few minutes each day). Be Active. Bones get stronger when you use them. A great way to strengthen them is with weight bearing exercise including some daily walks! ASSISTANCE PLEASE! Families and Residents Representatives - we need your assistance! We need your assistance to spring clean (clothing) in wardrobes and drawers. Although new clothing is often added, old clothes no longer worn are left in the wardrobe. This is becoming an occupational health and safety issue for our staff who are at risk of shoulder injury by having to squeeze laundered clothing in to drawers and wardrobes. Please help to de-clutter as an abundance of clothing can also be confusing for residents. PLEASE BE AWARE Dementia Focussed Quiet Hour Over the past two months we have been working towards creating the ideal meal time environment for our residents in House 3 and 4. We have found that introducing a focus hour we have decreased distractions and improved food intake. We would like to encourage families to support us in keeping House 3 and 4 as quiet as possible between 11.45am and 12.45pm. Limit visits during this hour Avoid chit chat Keep movements to a minimum Families who assist their loved one to eat are still encouraged to continue to do this. FOR RESIDENTS INFORMATION The Dental Service is coming to Rembrandt Living on Friday 19 October 2018. Fees are as follows: Examination/Denture Assessment $ 35 Scale, clean, Polish & Fluoride $150 X-rays (if required) $ 45 DVA Gold Card holders are completely bulk billed through Medicare. To book an appointment phone 1300 765 640 by Friday 12 October and quote Rembrandt Living Dental Day or email info@mobiledentist.com.au for more information. REMINDER Reminder notice to residents and families: Rembrandt Living do not supply batteries to residents for their clocks, TV remote controls and any other personal equipment. Also, we do not supply batteries for hearing aids this is for families to organise through their hearing aid provider.
