We offer our sincere condolences to Christina s family and friends DEMENTIA FOCUSSED SENSORY PROJECT Over the past few months we have been researching ways to improve our living spaces for the residents living with dementia. The research has prompted us to start working on several small sensory based projects throughout House 3 / 4. Sensory stimulation is the activation of one or more of the senses such as taste, smell, sight, hearing, and touch. Sensory stimulation is a key component for improving the quality of life of people living with dementia. With this in mind we have commenced developing three separate sensory areas. The designs used in each area is evidence based, using information found in our research, including colours aimed at promoting a sense of calm and items that are familiar. 1. Small fidget wall, where residents can fiddle with common household items (touch and also incorporates reminiscing)
