3 Florence-Darlington Technical College Grilling Competition Guidelines I. Background The Florence-Darlington Technical College-Lake City Campus will soon be relocating to the downtown district of Lake City thanks to the generosity of the Darla Moore Foundation. To further publicize and promote the relocation and addition of a culinary program, a TEEN Grill Master Challenge event has been established to showcase the talents of local teens who plan a career in the Culinary Arts, become cooking competitors, and enjoy the art of cooking. II. III. Eligibility Contestants must be between the ages of Contestants must be nominated by the TEEN Grill Master Challenge Team, which consists of 4 local Chefs/Entrepreneurs. Contestants will be chosen based on application, demonstrated culinary skills and video submission. Rules and Regulations i. Contestants shall submit their application and video submission to Paula McLaughlin- Director of the Florence-Darlington Technical College-Lake City Campus by September 8, Winning Submissions will be announced at the SC Tobacco Festival on Saturday, September 9 th at noon, unless additional time is required to choose 4 contestants. Application should be sent via to (LakeCity@fdtc.edu. Application and Video Submission (YouTube Preferred) must be ed to LakeCity@fdtc.edu) with a preferred date and time of 12:00pm on Friday, September 8, ii. Four Teen Chefs battle it out in three grueling rounds of grilling improvisations. iii. Grilling consists of three rounds: appetizer, entrée, and dessert. iv. Contestants are allowed 30 minutes to complete each round and each round will be judged based on presentation, creative use of all ingredients, and taste. v. Contestants are provided a mystery basket for each round that includes 4 ingredients. Each ingredient must be used in the construction of each dish. vi. The Grill Master TEEN Challenge Team will provide each Contestant with the following items: Mystery Baskets, Assorted Cooking Utensils, Pantry & Refrigerated Items, Gas Grill with Side Burner, Prep Stations, Hand-Washing Stations, Plating Items, Heat Resistant Gloves, Assorted Electrical Appliances, and Pots & Pans. vii. Contestants may provide One specialty item (e.g. Sauce, Rub, or Seasoning) 3
4 viii. Judges decisions are final after each round. Professional respect and courtesy during the competition is expected from each Contestant. ix. The TEEN Grill Master Challenge Team will provide Emergency Management Assistance as needed. x. Two Adults will be on hand to assist with grill issues RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY It is my wish to be a Contestant in the Florence-Darlington Technical College TEEN Grill Master Challenge being held on Thursday, October 5 th from 5:30pm 7:30pm at the Inn at the Crossroads Courtyard. I understand, appreciate, and acknowledge that property damage and injuries are common to such competitive culinary events. I fully assume the risk of property damage and personal injuries, and I participate in this voluntarily and with my full knowledge of the inherent risks. I hereby waive and release any and all rights that either my heirs, successors and assigns or I may have against Florence-Darlington Technical College, The Inn at the Crossroads, the City of Lake City, staff or volunteers, arising from my participation in this event, including, but not limited to property damage and personal injuries. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless all of the foregoing from any claim which may be made by me or on my behalf by other third parties which might be made against me by others, arising from my participation in the foregoing event. This waiver shall remain valid and may not be unilaterally rescinded by the Contestant. This form is to be signed by the Contestant and his or her Parent/ Legal Guardian.
