There are hundreds of wonderful restaurants to choose from that are within a few miles of the conference location. The Chicago Local Events Committee chose to narrow down this guide to include a sample of our recommendations for a variety of tastes, pocketbooks and also to encourage you to get out and experience Chicago neighborhoods. This list illuminates Chicago s dining prestige but also its eclectic, ethnic and culturally interesting cuisine. 4 Open late, this hippy- run cafe has no business being in Wrigleyville. Nonetheless, it's a great low- key place serving breakfast anytime as well as a deep selection of beer and coffees. Taste of Lebanon $ Middle Eastern 1509 W Foster Ave No- frills, counter- serve spot serving traditional Lebanese fare including falafel, kebabs & more. Café Ba- Ba- Reeba! $$ Spanish, Tapas 2024 North Halsted Street Spanish tapas, paella & pitchers of sangria fuel a lively scene at this classic Chicago restaurant. 4

5 Chicago: The Neighborhood City Chicago is a very neighborhood oriented city, each one adding its unique culture and therefore FOOD! The coming together of these diverse neighborhoods is what makes Chicago such a unique city. We hope you are able to venture into as many communities as you can. This list doesn t include every neighborhood but we encourage you to get out to see as many as you can. Chicago s Best New Restaurants of 2015 This is a recent listing that came out of Chicago Magazine. From a local s perspective, these list, are not always on point but this one happens to be excellent. My favorite on the list, Parachute! Make a reservation early. 9 Pilsen Just South- West of the downtown are this largely Latino neighborhood is bursting with culture and energy. Colorful street art lines the streets where some of the best Mexican cuisine can be found. 10 Chinatown Chicago s Chinatown is the nation s second oldest settlement of Chinese in America after they were forced to flee from California for fear of persecution. Today it is home to 22,000+ people of Chinese decent. Chinatown centers around a major hub and side streets filled with traditional stores and restaurants. 11 Chicago s Little Italy Located on Chicago s near South- West side this heavily Italian populated area s Italian- American heritage is primarily evident in the Italian- American restaurants of Taylor Street. Often referred to as the best authentic Italian pizza. Chef Bruno Abate not only creates delicious Italian food in his West Town kitchen but also teaches classes in the Cook County Jail providing inmates the job skills to get a job in the food industry upon release. Viaggio Restaurant and Lounge $$ Italian West Loop W Madison St (312) Relaxed, stylish restaurant & bar near the United Center featuring upscale Italian- American cuisine. Piccolo Sogno $$$ Italian River West N Halsted St (312) Rustic Italian fare, including pizza from a wood- burning oven, a vast wine list & garden seating. 12

14 Logan Square The area is characterized by the prominent historical boulevards, stately greystones and large bungalow- style homes. Logan Square is growing in popularity as a hip place to live and for the dining and entertainment in Chicago. Longman and Eagle $$ Gastropub, Hotel 657 N Kedzie Ave Eat and drink at the first- floor, whiskey- fueled, wood- laden nose- to- tail temple, then head upstairs to the accompanying inn's six furnished bedrooms. Small plates of tête de cochon or duck- in- a- jar might precede your dinner of wild- boar Sloppy Joe, but the menu is based on ingredient availability, so you ll just have to take a chance. 90 Miles Cuban Cafe $ Cuban 2540 W Armitage Ave The empanadas, ropa vieja, and Cubano sandwiches are all fantastic, the booze is bring- your- own, and one time, Guy Fieri got a pork- roasting lesson when he visited. Fat Rice $$ Asian Fusion, Chinese 2957 W Diversey Ave main Southeast Asian Restaurant - Comfort food from around the world is served in a rustic space with communal tables & open kitchen. 18 Bridgeport This is a neighborhood located on the city s south side. It s the location of the Cellular field where the Chicago White Sox play baseball and is the infamous neighborhood of the Daley family. 19 Randolph Street Area, also known as Restaurant Row This is an interesting part of town on the edge of Chicago s market district full of meat packing houses and food distribution sites. Some of the best restaurants in Chicago s West Town are located on this small strip less than one mile west of the conference. west- randolph- street/9 Au Chaval $$ American 800 W Randolph St The open kitchen at this upscale "diner" works with ingredients ranging from bologna to foie gras. Girl and the Goat $$$ American, Seafood 809 W Randolph St. Hot spot where Stephanie Izard serves up innovative small plates from a dramatic open kitchen. Little Goat $$ American, Diner 820 W Randolph St Little Goat is the diner and less upscale version of Girl & the Goat. Stephanie Izard's diner serving a huge menu of creative, gourmet takes on comfort food classics. Maudes Liquor Bar $$$ Bars, French 840 W Randolph St. Dimly lit resto- lounge with exposed brick serving house cocktails, seafood & classic French dishes. 19

21 Other Notable Dining Locations and Information Greektown- Chicago s Greektown is a dining and nightlife district on the Near West Side of the American city of Chicago. Visit Greektown for a bit of Greek culture taken in through amazing food in this high spirited area. Sip some Ouzo and enjoy some flaming Saganaki. Oopa! This district is located in Chicago s Far North Side, bordering the West Rogers Park neighborhood. This majority Latino(a) neighborhood has many taquerias and Mexican restaurants and is well- known for Persian and Middle Eastern restaurants including Noon O Kabab and Semiramis, as well as baklava bakeries. 22 Historic Chicago Dining Most of these are considered old school Chicago dining with many with interesting stories that connect to Chicago s rich history. The Berghoff $$ German classics 17 West Adams Street (312) restaurant/ The Berghoff opened in 1898, originally as a men- only saloon and remained open throughout the prohibition. When the prohibition was repealed the Berghoff received liquor license number 1 and has so every year since. Billy Goat Tavern $ Burgers, Bar 430 N Michigan Ave (312) Rumor has it that the reason the beloved Cubs have been so bad for so long is because a curse was placed on them by founder of the Billy Goat Tavern and his goat Murphy. Throughout the late 1800 s to the mid 1900 s the Cubs were the most successful team in baseball with 51 winning seasons and 16 World Series appearances but in the 1945 World Series with only one win to go Billy Goat (owner of the Billy Goat Tavern) and Murphy were denied entrance because the goat stinks and because of that Billy Goat yelled the Cubs ain t gonna win no more! The Cubs lost that game and were swept the remainder of the series, and to this day have yet to win another World Series. Attempts have been made to lift the curse but all have been unsuccessful. Exchequer $$ Since Pub with pizza, ribs, etc. 226 S. Wabash Avenue (312) Decades- old pub with pizza, ribs, burgers & other American grub plus a large beer selection. Miller s Pub $$ Since Traditional American fare, craft beer 134 S Wabash Ave (312) Chicago institution since 1935 serving up traditional American grub & craft brews in a warm space. 22

23 Club Lago Restaurant and Lounge $$ Italian 331 W Superior St (312) Northern Italian spot serving traditional eats & a full bar in a retro tavern setting since Margie's Candies $ Dessert 1813 W Montrose Ave (773) Opened back in 1921 iconic Margie's Candies has been a family owned, homemade ice cream and candy shop for generations. Green Door Tavern $$ American, Pub 678 North Orleans One of the last wooden frame buildings built before the building codes were restructured following the Great Chicago Fire. It was then converted into a restaurant in 1921 with many of the original fixtures still in place. Lou Mitchell s Restaurant & Bakery $$ Breakfast, Brunch, Bakery 565 W Jackson Blvd (312) This family business was started back in Since then this famous establishment has been visited by Presidents, athletes, and celebrities throughout the years. A must for breakfast. Pump Room $$$ American 1301 N State Parkway (312) This upscale restaurant was once THE place to be for icons during the 1930's- the 1980's the Pump Room has been visited by some of the biggest names in celebrity history. Signature Room $$$ 23

24 Lounge, Cocktail Bar 875 N Michigan Ave (312) Although this is not one of the oldest establishments in the city this is one that simply can NOT be missed and will be a part of Chicago history for generations to come. Widely known as the best view of Chicago being on the 95th floor of the John Hancock building allowing for one of a kind views of the skyline, Navy Pier, and Lake Michigan from above. The purchase of one drink is all you need to see these views. Walnut Room $$ American 111 N State Street (312) room/ Established in 1907 as one of the first places women could eat without the escort of a man while they were shopping downtown. One of the most architecturally stunning historic restaurant quickly became a central social hub during the early 1900's. Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern $$ American, Barbeque 1655 N Sedgwick Ave (312) This historic establishment opened in 1932 and was once the favorite Chicago location of Frank Sinatra. It has been featured in numerous magazines, TV shows, and movies, notably "The Dark Knight" "Return To Me" and featured on "Boardwalk Empires" speakeasy tour. Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders $$ Italian, Pizza 2121 N Clark Street (773) Located across the street of the infamous Valentine's Day Massacre it is rumored to be the lookout place for the Italian gunman. After a fire hit the building it has undergone renovations and serves some of Chicago's best pizza. Be aware it is CASH ONLY. 24

25 Rooftop & Outdoor Dining Café 300 $$ Café River North N LaSalle St Cheap cafeteria- style option right on the Chicago river with patio seating. Streeterville Social (At Loews Hotel) American Loop N. Park Drive (877) Chicago's newest and largest rooftop bar/restaurant at 9,000 sq feet. Spacious lounge style seating and grass area with amazing views. The J. Parker $$ American Lincoln Park North Lincoln (312) Rooftop lounge in north side of Chicago with good views of downtown Chicago from the north and now with a retractable roof to shield against poor weather. Afternoons can get crowded so suggested to go earlier around 11:30-12:00 or for later in the evening. 90 Miles Cuban Café $ * Cuban Logan Square W Armitage Ave Great food at a very reasonable price. What s unique about this place is their BYOB policy, which you can bring your favorite bottle of liquor and they or you can turn it into a delicious tropical drink either frozen or on the rocks. 26 C Chicago $$$ Seafood Near North Side - 20 W. Kinzie St The city's newest (and most ambitious) upscale seafood restaurant has a very attractive outdoor patio at Kinzie and Dearborn streets; the furniture is upscale and comfy. Indoor/Outdoor space. Bang Bang Pie Shop $$ Dessert Logan Square N California Ave (773) A locally loved café often with a line around the corner but worth the wait! This neighborhood café gets nothing but rave reviews. I O Godfrey $$$ Cocktail Bar, Small Plates River North W Huron At Lasalle (312) One of the city's top rooftop bars/lounge with plenty of seating. On the 4th floor of the hip Godfrey Hotel, the views of the city are breathtaking. Dress is classy. Howells & Hood $$ American, Pub Near North Side N Michigan Ave (312) Great outdoor space in the heart of downtown, nestled below the Wrigley Building on iconic Michigan Ave. They pride themselves on their beer selection, great place to stop for a drink. Anteprima $$$ Italian Andersonville N. Clark St. (773) Beautifully secluded patio in the back with a talented group of chefs using local and organic ingredients. Enoteca Roma $$ Italian West Town W Division St (773) Founded by an Italian immigrant family, this authentic Italian restaurant offers some of the best Italian food in the city, including outstanding Italian pizza. Three Dots and a Dash $$ River North 435 N Clark St (312) This tropical tiki themed bar is sure to put anyone in that island state of mind with over 200 rums there s a sweet, tropical handcrafted drink for everyone on this menu. 28

A great place to hang out with friends while sipping on a wide assortment of Champagne. B.L.U.E.S. $ * Lincoln Park 2519 N Halsted St (773) With live Blues and Jazz music playing every night by top notch entertainers and great drink prices in an intimate setting it is no wonder why this is one of my personal favorites for live music. Buddy Guy's Ledgends $$ South Loop 700 S Wabash Ave (312) Perhaps the most iconic blues bar in the city this famous venue attracts some of the biggest names in blues and jazz. Combined with a great food and drink menu this live music bar is not one to be missed. Most bands start up around 9:30 Goose Island Brewery West Loop 12$/Person 1800 W Fulton St This 45 minute tour of one of Chicago's most famous local brewery offers a view of the Innovation Room, Fermentation Room, and Aging Room. Patrons are also given samples of their beer and leave with their own custom pint glass, an excellent deal for only $12. Violet Hour $$ Wicker Park 1520 N Damen Ave Creative cocktails & small bites define this sophisticated, stylish bar. 29
