2 the power of our cucumbers The long European cucumber is for years the appreciated standard in Scandinavia. The challenge for Enza Zaden is to add more and stronger resistances which can be seen with our new successful varieties like Imea, Toploader and Galaxy. Imea Imea broke the standards for quality production in the high-intensity artificial light crops. The non-aborting character means Imea should not be pushed for production. It offers by itself a high continues production without breaks and at the same time the head keeps on growing. The fruit length remains uniform, production is high and Imea stays in balance. The fruits never get too long (max. about 34 cm). The cucumbers are well filled until the end without being pointy. the power of our cucumbers the power of Enza Zaden Paul van Dijck Crop Sales Manager North West Europe Fruity Crops

9 the power of our tomatoes Energy costs and carbon foot print focus has lead to a lower input of energy in the start and in the end of the season than most varieties ask for. At Enza Zaden we have made this an action point in our breeding activities. In the spring 2013 trials we have clearly seen that the new variety E15M was able to handle the lower temperature input in the nurseries better compared to the standards. Tomaggio Taste is another main focus in the Enza Zaden breeding activities. During the annual Kom in de Kas event in 2013 in The Netherlands, more than consumers were invited to participate in a blind tasting test. Over 70% of the participants had a clear preference for Tomaggio over the other truss cherry tomatoes. 26 the po wer of our peppers Sweet pepper in the Nordic countries has for years been under pressure from imported products. But nowadays local produced products are in focus and consumers also request local sweet peppers. To make a local production a success, growers need the highest quality and a distinct taste. The Enza Zaden breeding activities, based on a long time leading position at the world pepper market, meet these demands. Enza Zaden has breeding stations, production stations and commercial branches in all parts of the world. We work with local people who know all the ins and outs of our sector and their local market and with breeders who know precisely what varieties are needed to meet the market demands. In case a variety is resistant to more than one pathogen, the individual resistance codes will be separated by the symbol /. If in a resistance code of a certain variety reference is made to certain strains for which the resistance is claimed this means that no resistance is claimed to other strains of the same pathogen. If in a resistance code no reference is made to strains of the pathogen for which the resistance is claimed this means that resistance is claimed only to certain not further specified strains of the pathogen and herewith disclaiming any guarantee that the variety will not be infected by the said pathogen. High resistance (HR) - plant varieties that highly restrict the growth and development of the specified pest or pathogen under normal pest or pathogen pressure when compared to susceptible varieties. These plant varieties may, however, exhibit some symptoms or damage under heavy pest or pathogen pressure. Intermediate resistance (IR) - plant varieties that restrict the growth and development of the specified pest or pathogen, but may exhibit a greater range of symptoms or damage compared to highly resistant plant varieties.
