3 Carbon Foot Plates These extremely lightweight carbon-composite foot plates are available in 3 thicknesses: 1.0mm 1.25mm 1.5mm and in 3 shapes: Flat Contoured Morton s Extension Used to limit foot motion, Acor Carbon Footplates can be used in place of steel shanks or spring steel. P-Cell was proven to be superior to Plastazote in each and every test. The more abrasive the surface of the material, the more likely the skin will become irritated, which may result in blistering or ulcerations. P-Cell is a smooth, closed cell product which does not hurt the skin. Coefficient of Friction: A secure grip inside a shoe or orthotic device prevents shear. Excessive movement can allow the skin to rub, resulting in soreness. P-Cell helps to prevent this movement and is better for a diabetic patient. Moisture Deflection: Insoles that absorb body fluids are harder to keep clean and allow for bacterial growth near the skin. Bacteria can lead to complications and infections. P-Cell has a high moisture deflection that does not allow the moisture to soak in. Durability and Tensile Strength: P-Cell has higher durability and tensile strength allowing for longer wearability and life. It is a pure silver fiber woven directly into our shoes, insoles and fabricating materials and it offers the following superior benefits not found in any other products in the medical footwear industry: X-Static Kills Bacteria & Fungi Our feet and shoes harbor millions of organisms and bacteria which can be harmful to us. On average, our feet sweat a cup of moisture per day. The heat and moisture that build up in our shoes create a breeding ground for these bacteria and fungi to grow. This is why people experience such maladies as Athlete s Foot (tinea pedis). Our impression foam is available in bulk or in boxes and new, improved packaging makes for easy storage and shipping. How to take a foam impression Custom Accessories 1. Seat the patient near the edge of a chair so that both feet are resting flat on the floor. They should leave their socks on and make sure the socks are pulled up to avoid wrinkles showing in the foam. Gently, place one foot with the heel nearly touching the edge of the foam. The hip, knee and ankle should be at 90 degrees, as viewed from the side. The toes should not touch the upper edge. 2. Have the patient relax. Using downward pressure on the knee and the foot, with your right and left hands, push the foot evenly and completely into the foam. Make sure the toes do not touch the edge of the box, as shown. 3. Repeat steps 1-2 with the opposite foot. The impressions may end up in opposite directions. 43

44 Material Definitions M at erial D e f initions Durometer: a means of identifying the hardness of a material, defined as the material s resistance to permanent indentation. Durometer can refer to both the measurement, as well as the instrument used to generate the measurement. Our materials are based on a Shore A Durometer, which is the standard of measurement for orthopedic materials in North America and Europe. Sheet Size: determines the size to which a given sheet of material is cut a nd the depth of that material. Sheets are not a uniform dimension. They typically will be available in a full sheet, half sheet, roll or wheel. See the individual description to determine the amount of each material. M aterial D efinitions Molding Temperature: This is the recommended temperature, given in degrees Fahrenheit, at which a material should be molded. Overheating may cause the material to melt or shrink, making it unusable. Underheating may result in a lack of moldability. Grindable: Defines whether or not a material can be used on a rotary grinder. Laminate: This is the number of layers or materials glued together to form a single sheet good. Material laminates possess some distinct advantages over single layer materials. A characteristic, which is poor in one material, may be offset by the same characteristic, which is strong in another material. Laminating two such materials together, or otherwise using them in conjunction, produces a better functioning material. Materials used in this manner possess all of the good qualities and none of the weaker attributes of their component materials.
