1 THE JOURNEY SO FAR Established in September 2015 at Westside Acton Park and presently at Curtin since September 2016, DAANA was born from Sanjay and Sunita s love for cooking, and the joy of giving and sharing. Dana in Sanskrit means "generosity" or "giving". It also signifies the origins of life itself a seed, the source of food that nourishes. Awarded 2017 Best New Restaurant ACT by Restaurant And Catering Association - Savour Awards, and Finalist 2017 ACT Chief Minister s Inclusion Awards (Private Sector), DAANA has, in a short span of two years, established itself as a restaurant that is not just different but one that is also making a difference. DAANA S uniqueness lies not just in its menu, which is a curation of the hidden gems of Southern and Coastal Indian cuisines, but also in its core philosophy of making a difference in the community through a spirit of generosity and inclusion, and in its warm and friendly hospitality. DAANA S guests have been its biggest strength and ambassadors. It is their incredible support and encouragement that challenges the team to constantly innovate in order to present authentic, simple, unpretentious flavours with a contemporary flair. DAANA is a place where friends and families meet in a relaxing ambience, where there are stories to be told and heard, where laughter rings in an air of casual elegance. So, welcome to DAANA. 2 KARMA DAANA Karma Daana is a regular event dedicated to supporting a charity or cause in the community. At Karma Kitchen there is no price tag for our special 3 course Chef s Menu, so guests show their support through pay-it-forward and pay-as-they-wish towards the charity or cause, and Daana will donate a portion of the proceeds of these meals to the charity or cause being supported. In 2017, thanks to the community s generosity and contributions, we raised over $5,000 for RSPCA ACT and Hartley Lifecare. Karma Kitchen is a community experience. Beyond enjoying a good meal and supporting the cause, we invite volunteers to join in to help at the event - cooking, serving, singing, or any other way that you think you can help!
