1 Fairview Newsletter for the Community of Fairview Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut Spring 2015 Fairview Facelift p o i n t o v i e w Over the past couple of years, Fairview has been undergoing a transformation throughout the facility. On the lower level, we have updated the dental room, the beauty salon, installed new flooring and art work through the halls and unveiled our new rehabilitation therapy space. On the first floor, Fairview has refurbished the auditorium, and continuing with these upgrades and enhancements, new flooring was installed over several weeks. The conference room was refurbished, with the sink, counters and wall paper removed, new paint and new floors installed along with new furnishings. continued on page 5 Fairview s Art of Chocolate A Sweet Success! T hank you to all who supported Fairview s Art of Chocolate! The fundraiser was held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa. Over 500 guests were in attendance and the event raised over $12,000 for the Guided Journeys Memory Care Program at Fairview and the unrestricted annual fund. continued on page 4

2 Friendship Love & Truth Fairview Odd Fellows Home of CT 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT MISSION STATEMENT Fairview, the Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut s mission is to provide our residents with the best nursing care and rehabilitation services, while enhancing the quality of their life in a dignified atmosphere by using the skills and compassion of our staff, and utilizing the latest advances in technology. ABOUT FAIRVIEW The Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut was established in 1892 to provide care for the aged and indigent members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, their wives, widows, and orphaned children. A century later the Odd Fellows Home has expanded to include: Fairview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Fellowship Manor and Chelsea Cottage Independent Apartment Living Thames Edge at Fairview Independent Living Homes The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs continue to provide humanitarian care. There are no fraternal restrictions. We welcome individuals and families to apply for admission to our health care center and our senior housing facility. Fairview Point O View Publisher Tricia Cunningham Director of Development and Community Relations cunninghamt@fairviewct.org Design Caffeinated Thinking Fairview point o' view Reflections T his winter has not been the most pleasant but that has not deterred us from embarking on numerous projects at Fairview. In addition to the breaking ground on Phase II of Thames Edge at Fairview, there have been ongoing enhancements and upgrades inside 2 Photo courtesy of Seth Jacobson Photography James Rosenman (center) with representatives from the Greater Westerly Pawcatuck Area, Greater Norwich Area, and the Greater Mystic Chambers of Commerce as he receives the region s 40 Under Forty Award at Foxwoods in January. of the nursing facility. Among these are comprehensive room refurbishments, a renovated south lounge, new flooring on the first floor and planned upgrades to the library. In our Guided Journeys Memory Care Program on our second floor, we are in the process of making physical and aesthetic changes that will improve the quality of life for the residents we serve. This includes remodeling a common area to look like a park setting complete with a bench and other features. Of course, the physical changes are important but more important are the Fairview employees who provide exceptional service and compassionate care, around the clock, every day of the year. Because of them, Fairview was honored to receive the 2014 Employer of the Year Award from the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. The Art of Chocolate was held in January. This was a new fundraiser that brought local restaurants and retailers together to showcase their chocolate foods to the public. Over 500 hundred people turned out for the event at the Mystic Marriott. Tricia Cunningham and her committee were instrumental in making this a resounding success. Thank you for your continued support of Fairview it makes a real difference every single day for the people we serve now and in the future. James Rosenman, CEO & Administrator

8 Treasured Testimonials Fairview Spotlight The Hilton on the Thames: Dear Dr. McDermott, Simply cannot find the words to say thank you for helping to make my long stay at Fairview (which I now call The Hilton on the Thames ) bearable to say the least. From the beginning when you took over my medical care I felt safe and you gave me the feeling of yes I can do this. I appreciate your follow-up call perfect. The Bistro is a plus for families & patients feels so free friends can come visit and you have a place to take them for coffee, tea or lunch. This is such a nice touch. The staff is wonderful from laundry, cleaning, CNA s & nurses simply everyone who crosses your path. Phyllis Walsh Forever Grateful: Thank you so much for your loving and compassionate care you gave my father over the past five years. Your dedication allowed him to fight his battle with Alzheimer s with dignity and in comfort. I can t begin to tell you how much this has meant to my family. I will miss seeing you all. You always welcomed me with smiles and kind words. I will be forever grateful for that kindness. Love to all.
