1 Welcome To Stonyridge Vineyard Our Story Stonyridge Vineyard is the ongoing dream of owner Stephen White. In 1981 Stephen returned to New Zealand after sailing a Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, skippering yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and working at wineries in France, California and Italy. It was during this 3-year adventure that Stephen came to love the culture and lifestyle of the Mediterranean and the great red wines of France, Tuscany and California. After extensive climatic research Stonyridge on Waiheke Island was discovered as the ideal north facing site to ripen and produce a world class Bordeaux style red wine. The first Bordeaux vines and olive trees were planted in 1982 with the help of close friends and family. This makes Stonyridge the first commercial olive grove in New Zealand. When Cabernet Franc and Malbec were planted in 1983, it was the beginning of New Zealand's first Bordeaux four blend. In 1984 Stephen returned to Bordeaux for a final training period to collect Petit Verdot and completed a vintage at Chateau d'angludet, Cantenac-Margaux under the tutelage of Peter Sichel. Stephen produced the first vintage at Stonyridge Vineyard in Two years later, he made the great 1987 Larose that rocketed Stonyridge to national fame, and attracted international attention a wine hailed as the greatest red wine ever made in New Zealand. The 1993 vintage, Stonyridge made the first Bordeaux five blend in the new world. In 2000, an elite French sommelier team put Stonyridge Larose 1996 as first equal with Chateau Petrus, Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Cheval Blanc in Grandes vins rouge du Monde (Les Editions du Bottin Gourmand). Today Stonyridge is referred to as One of the Top Ten Must Visit Wineries in the World Guardian UK and most recently topped the list for the best Cabernet Merlot in The Age/ Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide The Stonyridge Larose 2010 scored 97 points to make it the highest equal scoring red wine in 2013 and finished ahead of all of Australia s most iconic Cabernet Merlots! Stonyridge Larose is the favourite of the former NZ Prime Minister, Sir John Key and has been enjoyed by King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Elizabeth II, the Russian President, the Prime Minister of Australia, and the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and has sold at some of the world s best restaurants including Ducasse at the Dorchester in London and Viridiana in Madrid.

Fresh summer peaches, roasted hazelnuts and pastry crust on the nose are followed by a rich broad palate with subtle sweetness balancing the zingy acidity. This classic sparkling finishes with great purity and length. fallen Angel Sauvignon Blanc $13 $50 Marlborough 2017 The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of nectarine, citrus peel and passionfruit on the nose, with hints of fig leaf and nettle. In the mouth crisp, fresh acidity frames the sweet fruit through the palate. For immediate enjoyment, through to 2 years of cellaring. fallen Angel Riesling $13 $50 Marlborough 2017 The 2017 Riesling has aromas of granny smith apple, lime zest and undertones of citrus blossom. The palate is off-dry, with a balanced crisp acidity and long finish. fallen Angel Chardonnay $14 $55 Hawke's Bay was another exceptional vintage around the whole of New Zealand. A mild dry spring led into a long hot summer, with good ripeness achieved across all regions and varietals. The 2015 fallen Angel Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented and aged in French Oak, with 25% being new. On the nose, ripe peach and nectarine combine beautifully with the creamy, buttery complexity from the malolactic fermentation and the subtle toasty oak. In the mouth, this Chardonnay has a wonderful creamy texture and is medium-full bodied with great balance and length.

The palate is full and luscious, with soft acidity and generous mouth feel. fallen Angel Rosé $14 $55 Central Otago 2017 A late spring in Central Otago, followed by a cooler than average summer, has given this Rosé excellent fruit freshness and vibrancy. The 2017 Rosé is pale salmon pink in the glass with excellent clarity. On the nose there are elegant aromas of red fruits, raspberry, watermelon and floral notes. The palate is of a very balanced wine, long persistence with a burst of red fruits and watermelon. fallen Angel Reserve Pinot Noir $18 $90 Central Otago 2016 This Pinot Noir is grown on Chinaman's Terrace in the sub region of Bendigo in Central Otago. From the 2016 vintage in Central Otago was characterised by typically warm days and cool nights to maintain the vibrant, varietal character of the delicate Pinot Noir. Intense garnet hue with aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, mulberry, almond and vanilla. Richly concentrated on the palate with creamy fine tannins that build in the mouth and are lifted by enticing acidity. Lifted fresh berry flavours with a savoury undertone and incredible vibrance that marries beautifully with its prominent frame. This is an "athletic wine" with chiselled beauty that shows incredible detail and beautiful layers. Fresh and inviting in its youth, the underlying structure will also reward cellaring. fallen Angel Dessert Wine $22 $65 Noble Sémillon Hawke's Bay 2015 Fresh characters of mango, rockmelon and citrus blossom, mingle with secondary characters of melted honeycomb on warm toast. The palate is lush and rich, with perfectly balanced acidity and great length.

14 Stonyridge Waiheke Wines Glass Bottle Stonyridge Sauvignon Blanc $13 $50 Waiheke Is The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc exhibits aromas of ripe tropical fruits, melon and gentle herbaceousness on the nose, while the palate shows great focus and texture from the partial barrel ferment. Perfect for immediate drinking, but will also cellar for up to three years. Stonyridge Cabernet Franc Merlot $14 $55 Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot Waiheke Is Grown in the Eastern Hills of Waiheke Island, this classes Cabernet Franc predominant right bank Bordeaux style blend, benefits from the cool nights and steep slopes in this locale. A savoury, earthy nose has ripe red cherry and Christmas cake aromas with subtle spice and vanilla notes. The palate is medium-bodied but pure and elegant, with great finesse and length. Stonyridge Syrah $15 $65 Syrah Waiheke Is This Syrah is grown in the Eastern Hills of Waiheke Island, which has cooler temperatures and higher altitudes to promote freshness and brightness. Produced as an earlier drinking, fruit forward style of wine, the 2016 vintage displays ripe spicy fruit, with subtle French oak characters. On the palate, this Syrah has fine, soft tannin, sweet generous fruit through the midpalate with pleasing length and balance. 15 Stonyridge Estate Wines Glass Bottle Stonyridge Airfield Sold Out Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Waiheke Is Airfield is the second label to the world famous Bordeaux blend, Larose. Airfield is made from the same quality fruit that will typically be used for Larose, but is a more forward fruit driven wine for the short to medium term was a warm season, with some significant rain events through the harvest period. The wines produced as a result are a gentler and earlier drinking style, with incredible florality and fragrance. On the nose the 2016 Airfield shows maraschino cherries and fresh Mediterranean herbs, with subtle toasty French oak influence. In the mouth there is soft, approachable tannin framing the juicy sweet fruit of the mid-palate. Stonyridge Faithful Sold Out Syrah Waiheke Is A warm start to the season, then good peak heat periods through ripening resulted in the 2016 vintage producing wines of good physiological and flavour ripeness. The rain periods through the harvesting were above average, but the excellent drainage of the Stonyridge site, meant little effect was noticeable in the wines. Across the board, the 2016 wines show perfume, florality and great balance and harmony. The 2016 Faithful shows perfume and spice up front before layers of ripe plums and blackberry are revealed. In the mouth, the palate is soft and finely tuned, fine silky tannin supports the vibrant sweet core of fruit, and the finish is satisfying.

16 Stonyridge Pilgrim $20 $95 Syrah, Mourvédre, Viognier, Grenache Waiheke Is Points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown for Robert Parker s The Wine Advocate For hundreds or years, pilgrims have passed through the south of France on their way to Spain and the church of Santiago de Compostela. Their symbols are the cross and the scallop shell which appear on wall frescoes throughout the region, indicating that pilgrims are welcome and safe. The pilgrimage was a journey involving dedication, devotion and discipline, just like winemaking, and is the inspiration behind the name of the wine was a challenging year in the vineyards on Waiheke, so the advantage of the free draining north facing slopes of Stonyridge were key to achieving the quality of the Pilgrim this year. The heat throughout the ripening period, meant that flavour ripeness was easily achieved. On the nose, intense aromas of plum, red cherry and violets combine with well integrated French oak over a complex spice bouquet. The freshness and vibrancy of the 2016 vintage is to the fore in this wine, but will benefit from medium term cellaring. The palate at this youthful stage is tight and focussed, with lively acidity and a firm structure. The mid-palate has generous fruit sweetness and breadth, and finishes with great length. Stonyridge Luna Negra Sold Out Hillside Malbec Waiheke Is Gold Medal, New Zealand International Wine Competition 2016 We are devoted to creating the finest quality Malbec in the world, grown on our vineyard, Vina Del Mar, Waiheke Island. This extremely low cropping, steep, north facing site combined with meticulous viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques create an inky dark "Luna Negra", our very own "Black Moon". On the nose, dark brambly fruit layered with chocolate and coffee are supported by a generous level of quality tight grained French oak. The freshness and vibrancy of the 2016 vintage are to the fore in this wine, and will benefit from medium to long term cellaring to knit the elements of this fine wine together. The palate is taut and firm, with great tannin grip at this youthful stage of its development, and with the density of sweet fruit through the palate, makes for generous mouth-filling wine. Sir Richard Branson chooses Larose: In late November 2015 Sir Richard selected and served Stonyridge Larose 2009 at his dinner hosting other owners and Virgin executives at his new uber luxury eco resort and residence on Moskito Island, next to Necker in the British Virgin Islands.

We use hands-on, labour intensive viticulture techniques to chase perfection in each and every vintage. We have the most experienced production team on Waiheke that pursue this goal with passion each and every harvest. 31 vintages and counting, Larose is now considered to be the most collectable wine in New Zealand, a reputation that is the envy of the country s industry.
