2 The Heart. The land has been the backbone of our family for 800 years. It s the heart of who we are and all that we do. Everything that goes into te Pā wine is grown here in bountiful soils and fruitful climate. We let nature do what it does best. Our role is not to interfere, it is to care. By taking care of the land, it takes care of us. Our philosophy is captured in an expression from our mother s side of the family: We re all just spokes in the wheel. 3 The Past. Around 1350 AD, it is said, the first waka (canoes) rode the crashing waves of the Wairau Bar, and passed in to the Wairau river mouth. Voyagers set foot in Aotearoa-New Zealand, perhaps for the very first time. Quickly, the site became the country s earliest known settlement, close to kaimoana and well placed for journeys inland. Archaeological excavation of the bar began in the mid-20th century. Only recently have bones and possessions been repatriated to their rightful resting place. Far too often in today s world, it is forgotten that the past remains melded with the present. ome

4 The Present. te Pā is born from the enterprise of the MacDonald family. We planted grapes in 2003, and now have 150 hectares in vines. Our very first Sauvignon Blanc was widely acclaimed as superb. 6 The Whanau. Our whanau (family) connection with the Marlborough region stretches back to around 1350 AD. It is said that all the tribes of New Zealand have links to these first arrivals. In the early 1800s, our mother s people came to this area from Kapiti, in the lower North Island. On our father s side, Francis MacDonald arrived here from Scotland in the mid-1800s. By the 1930s, Sciascia was the family matriarch, an Italian with a big heart, a big family, and a big vision. The MacDonald family owned the railway line that ran up the South Island, and two shops in Kaikoura. Our grandfather s generation, around 1950, saw a move into mixed farming. Orchards, dairy, or crops, we ve always believed in seizing opportunity.

7 The Wine. SAUVIGNON BLANC The Sauvignon Blanc is intense and expressive. This wine displays aromas of grapefruit and citrus blossom, with background notes of passionfruit, lemongrass and fresh limes. The palate is bursting with vibrant flavours of citrus, green melon, and passionfruit. The succulent fruit is balanced by crisp, refreshing acidity, and a persistent mineral finish. PINOT NOIR The Pinot Noir is a deliciously dark ruby colour with a mix of dark cherries, red fruits, earth and spices on the nose coupled with hints of cedar wood and violets. On the palate, cherries and brambly berry fruits are supported by some savory complexity and a deep rich body with a smooth finish. PINOT GRIS This Pinot Gris has an attractive bouquet of ripe stone fruits and florals, complimented by hints of ginger and baked apple. The palate is full bodied with a soft succulent texture. Juicy fresh white peach and spiced pear flavours are coupled with almond, musk and cinnamon notes. The generous fruit is supported by fine delicate acidity, which gives freshness and balance to the wine.
