1 First FBC Volume 12 November 2016 Issue W. 6th St., McGregor, TX Phone: (254) Fax: (254) Web: Sunday School Worship 9:30 a.m. 10:45 a.m. FROM THE PASTOR, TERRY JOHNSTON 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 2 Corinthians 9:13-14 NIV Manor Bible Study KidZone/JAM Time 10:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Choir Rehearsal Wednesday nights 7:30 p.m. in the worship center. Everyone is welcome to come and sing. With a grateful and overflowing heart, our family is truly thankful for the generosity of the folks of FBC this past month. Not just for the gifts, but for the cards, the words of well-wishes, and the joy we share in serving God here together in McGregor. From all that we have, the Johnstons truly thank you for how you show God s love to us. I am also thankful for exciting happenings around FBC. Our Women s Ministry is kicking into gear and hitting the ground running. I m thankful for the leadership several of our ladies are providing in this endeavor. We hope to have a Men s Ministry up and going soon as well! I am thankful for the hard work of the Constitution Committee. They have been meeting regularly and proceeding to craft a document worthy of our calling to serve the community of McGregor together. This is not an easy task, but the capable members of our committee are going above and beyond to provide our church a framework for how to accomplish our tasks in the years to come. I m thankful for volunteers who show up weekly to open and lock doors for meetings, to provide kool-aid and snacks for our Wednesday night kids programs, to drive the van, to run the soundboard, to work in the nursery---i could go on and on and on. September 2016 Income: $12, Expenses: 9, Surplus 2, Year-to-date: $12, God is richly blessing our community of faith, and we give God alone the glory and the praise. Perhaps this month, more so than others, we are reminded to count all our blessings. As I have adopted as my life s benediction: May God bless you, and may you be a blessing to others. Much love, Bro. Terry

November 21 12:00 noon Fellowship Hall First Baptist Church November 8 8:30 a.m. Coffee Shop Cafe The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held Sunday, November 20, at the Methodist Church in McGregor at 6:00 p.m.
4 Our churchwide Thanksgiving meal is a bit early this year due to other commitments on the usual Sunday. On November 6, bring your favorite side dish or dessert to go along with turkey and dressing as we gather together to ask the Lord s blessing on this holiday season. The meal will be held immediately after our morning worship service. In order to allow the cooks a bit more time of preparation, Sunday School will not be held that day. Ask family, friends and neighbors to join you on this wonderful Sunday that always proves to be one of delicious food as well as fellowship with other believers. This year Food For Families is November 18, an annual project for the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America, H.E.B. Grocery Company, and KWTX News 10. Together with food pan- tr tries all across Central Texas, this one-day food drive collects non-perishable food and stocks the shelves of area food banks and pantries beyond the holiday season. On the Friday before Thanksgiving, volunteers from the Boy Scouts, H.E.B. Grocery Company, Texas Army National Guard and other community organizations, collect food in 9 counties. Food For Families is the largest one-day food drive in Texas. All donated food serves the people in the county in which it was collected. Central Texans have generously donated food and money totaling more than one million pounds each year for the past seven years. In 2015 alone, 1,841,414 pounds of food was collected. Be a part of this tradition and help your fellow Central Texans. Please donate non-perishable food products that people need most. You can drop off your donation at the McGregor Food Pantry beginning at 6:00 a.m., located at 412 W 2nd St. Other locations are listed on the Food for Families website. Following are items needed: Canned Meats Tuna Chili Stew Chicken Canned Vegetables Sugar Corn Meal Pasta Sauce Cereals Flour Baby Food Peanut Butter Dry Beans Rice Pasta The BRH choir is one of the oldest student-led organizations at Baylor University. Founded by Dick Baker in 1948, BRH has continued to minister to Baylor and Texas through regular on-campus and weekend travel concerts and also around the world in its annual mission trip. The choir is made up of fifty auditioned individuals from all areas of study that come together to sing, to encourage one another and to worship the Lord corporately as a choir and as a family. The choir will be ministering to our own congregation, right here at First Baptist Church, during worship service on November 20. Invite friends and family to join you as this will be a wonderful opportunity to worship alongside a choir that has a heart for singing and praising the Lord.
5 The Operation Christmas Child Packing Party will be held Saturday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. The goal this year is to pack 225 boxes that will be shipped overseas to kids who never receive gifts of any kind. If you d like to come help pack boxes, please consider bringing cookies or sweet treats to share with everyone. Mary Alder is the OCC chairman this year and will be glad to answer any questions you might have. She has updated the list of items needed that can be found in the foyer of the church. Nov. 6, 2016, is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). During our worship service that day, we hope to show a short video about Hannelie Groenewald s family. There will also be prayer guides included in the FBC worship guide. When Hannelie and her family left their comfortable home in South Africa to serve on the front lines in Afghanistan, they knew the risks. But they wouldn t deny God s call. This year s IDOP video retells her family s story of faithfulness and sacrifice amid those hostile to Christ. Hannelie s inspiring testimony challenges each of us to consider what we are willing to risk to share His love in an increasingly hostile world. We die only once. We might as well die for Christ. Werner Groenewald You re Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 6. Be sure to turn your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night, otherwise you ll be early for church, and there s no Sunday School that day, so...
