1 Professional Women Controllers, Inc. PO Box Oklahoma City, OK WP Membership Newsletter - April 2012 Kate Davis WP Regional Director pwcawp@gmail.com (510) HAPPY Spring from your Regional Director!!!! Hello! With Spring in full bloom, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to reach out, and let you know what s been going on with PWC in the Western Pacific Region - which is also blossoming! March was a fantastic month for our region we held 2 training events, and welcomed 7 new members! The growth continued in April, at the PWC National Training Conference in New Orleans. At least 12 members from across the region were able to attend, with word that at least 2 more attendees would be joining our region later this year. The energy that was shared in New Orleans has me very motivated to continue my outreach for PWC throughout the region. In this edition of your regional newsletter: a little business; some memories of NOLA a favorite recipe and several pictures; and some pictures and information from the regional training events. Enjoy! Kate Davis 1 A Little Business: - Mark your calendar.. PWC s 2013 National Training Conference will be in Philadelphia, PA April 8-12, More information coming soon to pwcinc.org - Please make sure that your information (name, address, , facility) is current on the PWC website. Please go to pwcinc.org to register and update your info if necessary. - The next issue of The Watch will have full NOLA Training Conference recap look for it soon.
2 We fell in LOVE with Mr. B s Bistro in New Orleans, and this recipe is for one of our favorite dishes Recipe from mrbsbistro.com/recipes - 16 jumbo shrimp, with heads & unpeeled - ½ cup Worcestershire sauce - 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice - 2 Tsp black pepper - 2 Tsp Creole seasoning - 1 Tsp minced garlic - 1 ½ cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter French bread as accompaniment. In a large skillet combine shrimp, Worcestershire, lemon juice, black pepper, Creole seasoning, and garlic and cook over moderately high heat until shrimp turn pink, about 1 minute on each side. Reduce heat to moderate and stir in butter, a few cubes at a time, stirring constantly and adding more only when butter is melted. Remove skillet from heat. Place shrimp in a bowl and pour sauce over top. Serve with French bread for dipping. Yield: 4 appetizers or 2 entrees. NOTE: The 3 sticks of butter called for are enough to scare you into cholesterol shocks, but are key to the flavor and consistency of the sauce. Another tip to keep in mind: to emulsify the sauce, be sure to add a little butter at a time while stirring rapidly. And don t overcook the shrimp or they ll become tough and hard to peel. 2

5 PWC WP Regional Training Events March 26 & 28, 2012 PWC joined forces with the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE) to provide training to approximately 30 employees over 2 days, at 2 different locations. The Golden Gate District Office (GGDO), in Oakland, and Northern CA Tracon (NCT), in Rancho Cordova, CA were the facilities that welcomed us. Magellan provided excellent facilitators to provide training in the topics of: An Orientation to EAP (Employee Assistance Program) for Employees, Valuing Diversity in the Workplace, Planning for Professional Growth, Achieve Professional Success through Emotional Intelligence, and Person to Person Feedback. These topics, combined with the participation of the attendees and the expertise of the trainers, led to spirited discussions and valuable insights shared by all. Top left: 3/26/12 at the Golden Gate District Office, GGDO Manager Andy Richards welcoming the participants. Bottom left: 3/28/12 at Northern CA Tracon (NCT), participants engaging in discussion 5
