2 PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE 2001 STANISLAUS COUNTY AGRICULTURAL CROP REPORT Page 2 DISCUSSION: Sections 2272 and 2279 ofthe CalifomiaFood and Agricultural Code require that the County Agricultural Commissioner annually report the condition of agriculture in the county to the Director of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This is accomplished by the annual publication of the Stanislaus County Agricultural Crop Report. POLICY ISSUE: The 2001 Agricultural Crop Report promotes and illustrates the significance of the agricultural industry in Stanislaus County. STAFFING IMPACT: There is no staffing impact.

4 The 2001 Stanislaus County Agricultural Crop Report is dedicated to Donald 0. Cripe. Don sewed as Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer for Stanislaus County from 1994 until his retirement in March of We thank him for his leadership, his dedicated sewice to our county and for his devotion to agriculture. About the Cover: Featured on the cover of this year's report is an original watercolor depicting the bounty of agriculture. The artist is Nadya Cripe (daughter-in-law of retired Stanislaus County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer Donald 0. Cripe).

The gross agricultural income for 2001 is $1,353,300,000. This figure represents an increase of $1 55,998,000 (approximately 13%) from the gross production value of $1,I 97,302,000. The crops responsible for this increase are: Livestock and Poultry Products, Field Crops, Fruit and Nut, Vegetables and Livestock and Poultry. It must be noted that these are gross figures and do not indicate net profit. Also, figures shown do not reflect on any individual operation since the whole county is the smallest unit measured for any particular commodity. We wish to express our appreciation to the many persons who contributed to the preparation of this document. Special thanks go to the staff of the Department of Agriculture, particularly Sheryl Brennan who compiled this report and Cynthia Darmstandler, who prepared the information for publication.
