2 GOV101 YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT INFORMATION STATION Vineyard City has elected officials and staff who work hard each day to assure that the City is running and developing smoothly and that your needs as a resident are being met. However, local government can sometimes be a bit of a mystery to those who aren t involved in it daily. So we ve created GOV 101 to demystify it a bit. Every month, you can come here to find out more about what your local government does everyday to make Vineyard great! PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING Vineyard Public Works and Engineering department consists of 11 staff members Public Works Director/City Engineer, Don Overson Assistant City Engineer, Chris Wilson Water Operator, Sullivan Love Wastewater Manager, Eric Christensen Storm Water Manager, Sam Bell Public Works Inspector, Christopher Thomas Contracted Inspector, Rick Perea Public Works Technicians, Josh Degering, Tim Dye, and Keith Greer Department Coordinator, Kinsli McDermott The department is charged with making sure that all of the utility systems (sewer, water, and storm drain) are in excellent working condition to ensure the health, safety and comfort of the residents of Vineyard. In addition to this, the department maintains approximately 25 miles of public roadways, and approximately 33 acres of public parks, and landscaping along the sidewalks and trails. We also work to stay involved in the community by managing the Citizen Request portal through our website. The goal of our department is to, alongside the community, make sure Vineyard a great place to live, work, and play! There will be areas for each age group and we will start promptly at 9:30 AM! Remember be early and bring your own baskets! Additional parking will be available at Franklin Discovery Academy. SHERIFF S DEPARTMENT With the weather warming up and people out and about, please look out for suspicious activity and immediatly report anything to the Utah County Sheriff s Office at. As always, lock your vehicles and place any valuables out of sight. STREET PARKING SURVEY Due to upcoming winter storms and concerns about parking throughout Vineyard, the Vineyard City Council took immediate action and passed a parking ordinance which restricts street parking on public roads between November 1 - March 31, from the hours of 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM, and anytime snow is present, so as to provide access to snow plows for snow removal. Vineyard has implemented these restrictions with the intent to find a more conclusive plan once the issues have been surveyed and discussed. In order to help the City Council find a long term solution, please have each voting member of your household fill out the survey. You can access the survey on our website as well as social media. GARBAGE DAY CHANGE Due to the high growth around the county, Republic Services is making changes to the collection schedules for cities around Utah County. The collection day for garbage will move from Tuesday to Wednesday beginning April 4 th. The collection day for recycling will remain the same. The new sanitation schedule can be found on our website. NEW MUNICIPAL CODE SOFTWARE Our new searchable Municipal Code is available on our website! Click on the link and scroll down to the City Code icon to check it out.

4 VINEYARD HERITAGE NEWS Vineyard Heritage Foundation The first meeting of the newly formed Vineyard Heritage Foundation was held on January 9, This Foundation is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt entity. The Foundation will work with the Vineyard Heritage Commission, the City of Vineyard and others to preserve, use, promote and educate residents and visitors about the rich history and heritage there is in Vineyard. One of the biggest advantages is It can receive and allow for the tax-free donations of money, artifacts, implements, properties, etc., that are related to the history of Vineyard. The Foundation Officers are: Lowell Castleton, President: Curt James, Treasurer; and Tim Blackburn, Secretary. Other Foundation members are Grant Holdaway and Sherrie-Kaye Miller, all of whom are Vineyard residents. Vineyard Heritage Day Event Mark your calendars - The Vineyard Heritage Commission, together with the newly organized Vineyard Heritage Foundation, are happy to announce the Vineyard Heritage Day(s) second annual commemoration on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Gammon Park, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be many more details following in the next couple of months. VINEYARD HERITAGE COMMISSION CORNER With sickness all around us this winter it is good to remember that sickness was also prevalent among the early day residents of Vineyard. A particularly hard time was during the devastating Spanish Flu epidemic of Several lives were lost in Vineyard due to this epidemic. Quoting from the history of Vineyard resident Juel Andreasen, The flu was bad! People walked around like ghosts. We wore masks, even on the streets. The phone would ring, and you were paralyzed because you didn t know who was next to die. We kept our soup kettle going night and day to take to people who were sick. It picked on those who were weak but also those who were strong. Deaths were tremendous. On numerous occasions I stood out in that cemetery and sang over an outdoor funeral. We couldn t have funerals indoors at all. I can still hear myself singing, Oh Grave, Where is Thy Victory?

5 FYI BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT Fencing Requirements What are the height requirements for fencing? No fence, wall, or similar structure can be erected on any required rear or side yard to a height in excess of six (6) feet. Additionally, fences located on the front property line or on the side property line within the front yard cannot be higher than forty-two (42) inches (Section 1623). What fencing restrictions apply to corner lots? In all Zoning Districts, no view obstruction, including a sight-obscuring fence, wall, sign, other similar structures, and landscaping which exceeds two (2) feet in height can be placed on any corner lot within a triangular area formed by a diagonal line connecting lines located at the curb line thirty (30) feet from the projected intersection of such curb lines (Section 1628).
