3 In 1777, Edmond de Montaubert gave his life fighting for the American Revolution in the Battle of Brandywine Creek against the Redcoats. Brandywine a name which foretold the glory of the de Montaubert family. Edmond de Montaubert had two sons, the elder of whom, Charles de Montaubert, later served in the Napoleon army and died of war wounds in 1815 at age 32. It was Edmond s grandson, Albert de Montaubert, who became interested in viticulture, when he moved to the Cognac region in By 1850, Albert de Montaubert had acquired solid distilling experience. He set up the very first stills at Vallein Tercinier, which was to become one of the top names in Cognac production, and went on to supply world-renowned Cognac makers for more than a century. In 2002, Albert de Montaubert s great grandson, Pierre Barrier, created the Albert de Montaubert label for exclusive premium brandies, produced exclusively from their own estate wineyards, aged for many long years in the Vallein Tercinier cellars. It is Cognac s oldest distillery still in production today. Ten years later, Albert de Montaubert fine old Cognacs are appreciated by elite connoisseurs in Europe, Russia, Canada and most recently China, now available in the United States. Today his great, great grandson is giving America something almost as precious.
