1 July 2016 Virginia Wine Events July 2016 July 4 marks the 240 th Birthday of America and wineries across the state will be celebrating the occasion with special parties and activities. A few are included here, but we suggest you check with your favorite winery to see what events they have planned. Happy Fourth! July 2: Birth of Democracy Festival Democracy Vineyards (Lovingston) An afternoon of food, vendors and wine tastings by DelFosse, Hilltop Berry Far, Lazy Days and Mountain Cove. Music by Ragtop and Paulo Franco. Merone s food truck. July 2: Red, White and CRU Trump Winery (Charlottesville) Enjoy festive menu offerings paired with Trump wine. Wear patriotic attire for 10% off all purchases. July 2: Watermelon Wine Festival DeVault Vineyards (Concord) Wine, beer and live music, sangria slushes, indoor pool, wet slides, games with prizes. Sangria is made from real watermelon juice. July 2: Dessert & Wine Pairing Little Washington Winery (Washington VA) Come try desserts and some wines and learn why some do and some don t go well together. Hour and a half class. July 2: Dog Days of Summer To benefit the Madison Animal Shelter. Bring the pooch for doggie Olympics, plus music on the patio and local food. July 2-3: 4 th of July Weekend Doukenie Winery (Purcellville) Wine tasting and all American menu prepared by Merone s Food Truck. Hamburgers, hot dogs, red white and blue potato salad and apple pie. 2 July 3: Summer Concert Series Rosemont Vineyards & Winery (LaCrosse) Feature Attraction Band will entertain followed by spectacular fireworks display over the vineyard. Food for purchase or bring your own picnic with chairs and blankets. July 4: Independence Day Celebration New Kent Winery (New Kent) Celebrate the holiday in this spectacular winery setting. Bring your picnic and blanket or grab a spot on the porch for an afternoon of music and wine tasting. July 4: Pre-Fireworks Party Tara Mills Band will play bluegrass and Americana and BQ will be for sale by Pig & Steak. No cover. Head straight over to Graves Mountain Lodge for fireworks. July 4: Reds, Whites and Bluegrass Celebration Keswick Vineyards (Keswick) Music by East of Afton, great food selections to purchase from Sea Gourmet and The Pie Guy. No fee, just grab picnic blankets and friends and have a great time. July 9: Starry Nights Veritas Vineyards & Winery (Afton) Bring family, friends, blankets, lawn chairs and dancing shoes for live music, wine and an unforgettable night under the stars. Advance reservations suggested. July 9: Horse and Hound Wine Festival Johnson s Orchards Farm (Bedford) Taste Virginia wines and enjoy good music, art, craft and food vendors. Parade of horses, agility dog and muskrat racing plus numerous other events with horses and dogs as the primary attractions. Family and pet friendly. Order tickets online. July 9: Annual Key West Festival Breaux Vineyards (Purcellville) Come to the Vineyard, Mon, for wine and cheeseburgers in paradise, Key West Bank and steel drums, Caribbean food, and wine-a-ritas for sale. Contests and raffles! July 9: Summer Breeze Wine Festival Rockbridge Vineyard (Raphine) Gone to the dogs to benefit the Augusta County SPCA. 3 July 9: Black Dog Arts Festival Chateau Morrisette (Floyd) Savor the tight harmony of live jazz, friends new and old, wines, grilled foods and stunning Blue Ridge vistas. Three Fox Vineyards (Delaplane) Learn about this time-honored Italian tradition from Siena where bareback riders circle the Piazza del Campo with thousands watching. Be part of the Three Fox Palio race. July 9-10: Wine & Food Pairing Program Gourmet food and wine pairings on selected Saturdays and Sundays in the winery surrounded by barrels and tanks. July 9-10: Gray Ghost Anniversary Gray Ghost Vineyards and Winery (Amissville) Celebrating 22 years with wine tastings, vineyard and winery tours and live music. Bring a lawn chair and picnic; food also available for sale. July 9-10: Black Wine Glass Tasting Fox Meadow Winery (Linden) Can you tell a white wine from a red wine? Get fooled by Black Glass Blind Tasting. Tastings held on the hour; no reservations needed. July 13-16: 2016 Capital Ale House National Beer Expo Richmond Virginia Taste premium Virginia and American craft beers, whiskeys ciders, artisan tacos, smoke, southern, soul and cajan cuisine, and much more. Learn why Richmond is rapidly emerging as a craft beverage and culinary mecca. July 16: Purcellville Wine and Food Festival Fireman s Field (Purcellville) This charming town in Loudoun County hosts the fourth annual festival. Featuring award winning local wineries, local restaurants and food trucks with mouth-watering cuisines. Tickets available online and at the gate. July 16: Chef Series-Fortunato Foggy Ridge Cider (Dugspur) Eat, drink and learn how cider can dance with food. Fortunato Italian kitchen will have prepared Neapolitan style pizza to pair with ciders. July 16: Annual Summer Seafood Festival Mountain Cove Vineyards (Lovingston) Outdoor wine fest with all you can eat crabs and shrimp. Annual Democratic Party event open to the public. Meet campaigning politicians and share fellowship. July 16: Campfire Saturday 868 Estate Vineyards (Purcellville) Watch the fireflies in the picnic grove as you enjoy live music, pizza and wine outside in the pavilion. Fire pits available on the patio. July 16: Veraison in the Vineyard Ankida Ridge Vineyards (Amherst) Celebrating The Seasons at Ankida with live music, hayrides, tours and special guests. Owners share their love for the mountain, the vineyard, the animals... and the wines! July 16: Popham Run Red Vertical Tasting Taste many vintages of Popham Run Red through the new 2015 vintage. See how the wines have evolved. Limited seatings and advance reservations required. July 17: Aromas of Wine-The Sommelier Challenge Little Washington Winery (Washington VA) What is the difference between a wine s aroma and its bouquet? Follow along with a glass of wine and explore the pleasures of using your olfactory system. July 23: Founders Wine, Beer and Cider Festival Philip Carter Winery (Hume) The founding family of American wine joins with founding families of Fauquier craft brewing and cider making. Taste four products from each of the three vendors. July 23: Rhythm & Blues Festival Weston Farm Vineyards & Winery (Louisa) Sip on award winning wine while listening to the smooth sounds of great musicians. Enjoy a day of music, food, wine tasting and vendors. July 24: Chocolate and Wine Pairing Lindt s Master Chocolatier Ann Czaja will share the history of chocolate and bring chocolates to pair with a flight of red wines. 5 July 24: MoJo Sweet Potato Pie Singalong Glass House Winery (Free Union) MoJo Pie will be awesome music hosts for the Christmas in July Singalong. Bring a pie to share. Picnics welcome. July 30: Paint & Sip Ingleside Vineyards (Colonial Beach) A fun afternoon of art and wine, featuring painting instruction by artists from the Uncorked Palette. Reservations required. July 30: Grapes on the Grass First Colony Winery (Charlottesville) Enjoy wine tastings and live, local music on the Terrace Garden. Food available for purchase from Côte Rôtie Food Truck, or bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn. July 31: Race through Tuscany-in Virginia Three Fox Vineyards (Delaplane) Multi terrain course of grass, gravel, and one spot of dirt.
