4 PARCEL LOTS Château Cheval Blanc - Vintage 1982 St. Emilion 1ts, 12vlbsl, 1nl, 1lstl, three bottles different importer Revealing considerable amber in its dark plum/garnet color, this intensely fragrant 1982 is somewhat of a paradox in that the front end suggests full maturity, but the mid-palate, finish, and overall texture denote a closedwine. A gorgeously sweet entry displays flavors of caramel, roasted coffee, jammy red and black fruits, coconut, and smoke. It is fat and full-bodied, with considerable tannin, structure, and muscle in the finish. Flamboyantly rich and precocious early in life, it is goingthrough an awkward stage where the tannin is present, but it is also sexy, juicy, and formidablystructured. When the 1982 Cheval Blanc s component parts become totally in sync, it will be capable of meriting a three-digit rating. Very fragrant, with gobs of sweet black fruits, minerals, and spice in both its flavors and aromatics, this is one of the most forward wines from Cos. 5 24 Château Haut Brion - Vintage 1945 Graves ts, vhs, bsl, tl, stl, 2cc, The 1945 Haut-Brion is profound the essence of Haut- Brion s style. The color remains a healthy, opaque garnet with only slight amber at the edge. A huge, penetrating bouquet of sweet black fruits, smoked nuts, tobacco, and tar soars from the glass extraordinary density and extraction of fruit, massive, full-bodied, unctuouslytextured flavors that reveal little tannin, and copious quantities of glycerin and alcohol. It is a fabulously rich, monumental example of a fully mature Haut-Brion that exhibits no signs of decline. Awesome! Seductive, rich, grape and cassis-laden nose with just a pinch of gravel very chocolaty seductive, bready spice as well round, rich and ooh la la on the palate so young, ripe, and fresh more gravel and slate on the palate with excellent grip still and a long, lingering finish with very fresh acids delicious, dry, milk chocolate flavors and a great, dusty, balanced, and seductively firm finish very meaty more rich and saucy and brute strength than the 59 Mouton served beside it the alcohol and gravel really come out more with food I vacillated between 97 and 98 points. This has always been a prodigious effort (it was the debut vintage for Jean Delmas). It is extremely full-bodied, with layers of viscous,sweet fruit. This wine is akin to eating candy. Consistently an astonishing wine! Intensely flavored and penetrating, with strong acids giving the flavors terrific cut and grip. My second bottle showed even more extravagantly expressivearomas of hot stones, tobacco, minerals and marzipan; a denser, silkier palate impression, with more obvious roasted Graves character; and an uncanny combination of sheer sweetness with structure and grip. It has always reminded me of what the 1959 must have tasted like in its youth, butit is even richer and more compelling aromatically. The wine exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, as well as a sweet nose of jammy fruit, tobacco, spicy oak, minerals, and smoke. Fabulously concentrated, with huge levels of fruit, extract, and glycerin, this wine is nearly viscous because of its thickness and richness. Low acidity gives the wine even more appeal and adds to its precociousness. The wine has not budged in development since it was first bottled, although it has always provided thrilling drinking because of its voluptuous texture. Super-concentrated, and now beginning to shed enough tannin so that it can be fully appreciated, this enormously constituted La Mission-Haut-Brion has developed that fabulous Graves set of aromatics - tobacco, black fruits, minerals, roasted herbs, and cedar. It is very full bodied, rich, and supple. This layered, concentrated wine can be drunk now, but promises to be even better with additional bottle age. (96pts) 12 bottles per lot US$ per lot HK$ PARCEL LOTS Château La Mission Haut Brion - Vintage 1982 Graves 3vlwl, 1wc A thick, unctuously-textured wine with massive richnessas well as abundant notes of black fruits, truffles, creosote, scorched earth, smoke, and camphor, a colossal mouthfeel, a layered texture, incredible depth of fruit and glycerin, and copious, but well-integrated tannins that are largely concealed by the incredible amount of fruit. An old school La Mission, it is a tour de force that should continue to age effortlessly for another 40+ years. 8 45 Château La Mission Haut Brion - Vintage 1989 Graves I am certainly not going to argue with anyone who believes La Mission-Haut-Brion s 1989 is every bit as profound as the 1989 Haut-Brion. It is a spectacular wine, and as it ages in the bottle, it is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite La Mission-Haut-Brions, ranking alongside the 1982, 1975, 1961, 1959, and The 1989 boasts a dense, thick, purple color, followed bya sweet, roasted cassis, chocolatey-scented nose with whiffs of tobacco, tar, and minerals. The wine is extremely full-bodied, unctuously-textured, sweet, jammy, and rich. Although it is still a youthful, unformed wine, it is alreadydelicious to drink. The wine, all 800 cases of it, is produced from a 30-year old parcel of vines located between Le Tertre-Roteboeuf and Canon-La-Gaffeliere. Made from 100% Merlot, and fermented and aged in 100% new oak barrels, this wine is one of the most concentrated young Bordeaux I have ever tasted. On each of the three occasions I tasted it, my notes contained the expression: amust buy! (97pts) 6 magnums per lot US$ per lot HK$ NO LOT 48 Château Lafite Rothschild - Vintage 1953 cuc, Nicolas, reconditioned, excellent color and condition On two occasions I rated the and on another occasion, nearly perfect. According to some old-timers, the wine has been fully mature for almost 30 years. It possesses that extraordinary Lafite fragrance of minerals, lead pencil, cedar, and spice. It is velvety-textured, wonderfully round, and sweet, but so well-delineated and balanced. Some amber is just beginning to appear at the edge. The 1976 has turned out to be the best Lafite of the 70s. Tannic, well-balanced, mouth-filling, chewy in its intensity (94pts WS) 1 Jeroboam per lot US$ per lot HK$ Jeroboam per lot US$ hs, bsl, lgsl, scc, per lot HK$ Jeroboam per lot US$ vhs, stl, spc, per lot HK$ Château Lafite Rothschild - Vintage bn, 1vhs, 10vlwl, 1ltl, 1nl, 1cuc, 2spc, 1scc The 1982 Lafite possesses a dark, dense ruby/purple color with only a subtle lightening at the rim. Spectacular aromatics offer jammy cherry and black fruitsintertwined with lead pencil, mineral, and smoky wood scents. Powerful for a Lafite, this wine unfolds to reveal extraordinary richness, purity, and overall symmetry in addition to stunning flavor depth and persistence. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. The modern day equivalent of Lafite-Rothschild s immortal 1959 An amazing achievement! As I indicated last year, only 38% of the crop was deemed grand enough to be put into the final blend, which is atypically high in Cabernet Sauvignon (83%). This massive wine may be the biggest, largestscaled Lafite I have ever tasted. It will require many years to come around the wine exhibits a thick-looking, ruby/ purple color, and a knock-out nose of lead pencil, minerals, flowers, and black currant scents. Extremely powerful and full-bodied, with remarkable complexity for such a young wine, this huge Lafite is oozing with extract and richness, yet has managed to preserve its quintessentially elegant personality. Though spiny and long, the Margaux was still stylish with a touch of that Margaux elegance. This was a great bottle of this wine, and it ended up being wine of the flight, outshowing all the other First Growths. Exceptionally powerful and super-extracted, withthe fruit supported by high levels of tannin and some lusty quantities of It may well be a 100-year wine! Just to make you even more envious of my good fortune, let me tell you that over the last year I had the 1961 Petrus out of regular format, twice from a magnum, and twice from a double magnum. Allen said that this wine saw 100% new oak and added that the most expensive part about making great Burgundy was not the new oak, but rather keeping the yields low, especially for those who use the stems. Like its two siblings, it is throwinga hefty sediment, with the inside of the bottle resembling that of a 15-year-old vintage port. The color is still a murky, inky purple. The nose offers up aromas of beef blood, vitamins (iron?), minerals, smoke, and truffles.
