PAUL DICKSON S COMPUTER TIPS Speed Up a Slow Computer (Continued from last issue) Following on from the previous steps to speed up your computer, there are a number of things you can do from a command prompt. To open a command prompt, hold down the Windows key and press the R key to open the Run dialog box, and type cmd and press the Enter key. Hard drives do get issues over time which can impact performance, so it s a good idea to regularly check your hard drive for errors. This can be done by opening a command prompt and typing chkdsk /r (without the quotes + the Enter key). You can also change what programs automatically start when you log on. From a command prompt type msconfig or taskmgr for newer Windows versions

Again you may need to research what each program does, and be careful not to disable any security programs. Finally, if you do not search your computer very often, you can disable the Windows Search Indexing service, which is otherwise constantly scanning files and folders to make searching faster. To disable, type services.msc in a command prompt, double click the Windows Search service and select Disabled from the Startup type drop-down and click OK. multiple ways making it more challenging to engage in everyday activities they once enjoyed. PHYSIO NEWS As many of you are now aware Rembrandt Court has recently teamed up with both Flinders University and Uni SA to provide clinical placements for occupational therapy students. Our first ever OT students Ashlyn and Felicity recently completed their first placement with us. It was fantastic to have them here and we appreciate all the help we received from them which included assisting in running exercise classes, one-onone therapy with residents and engaging in social games. You will be greatly missed and are always welcome at Rembrandt Court. I would also like to introduce Holly and Jesse, our new occupational therapy students from Uni SA, who will be undertaking a 10-week placement with us in June. Their focus is to identify, design, implement and evaluate occupational-based activities for residents living with Dementia. Dementia can affect people in
