Louisiana Statehood Bicentennial Revisiting Acadia: Acadian to Cajun includes photographs, memorabilia, Acadian flags and brochures, among oer items. The exhibit is on loan from e Acadian Museum of Era, and will become part of e park s interpretive program at focuses on bo e natural and cultural heritage of e area. Theall at On July 6, I attended a luncheon - for e New Orleans Consular corps- and dinner New Orleans hosted by honorary Consul General Pat Denechaud in honor of e Consul General of Canada Paula Caldwell - St. Onge. The new Consul General of France Jean - Claude Brunet arrived in NO and attended e dinner. His wife and 3 children will be joining him shortly. He is very personable and anxious to continue working wi CODOFIL and all related groups. In her speech, Caldwell-St. Onge said her office will work to support e GRA. In October she will come back to New Orleans for e opening ceremonies and return for e closing in Lafayette during Festivals Acadiens et Creole. She told me at she was going to focus and work hard at promoting cultural and economic interchanges between Louisiana and Canada. Bernie will be attending e Acadian/Mi kmaq festival in Petite Reviere where also Christine Guidry Lejeune Law and daughter Lee Ann will join him to play Cajun Music. He will also present e La. Mark Sindler has released a very brief description of his proposed book Cajun Routes/Cajun Connections: A journey Through e Acadian Maritimes (working title): This photography book, wi bilingual (French/English) captions and interstitial narrative text, would explore e Acadian regions of e Canadian Maritime Provinces ancestral home of Louisiana s Cajun population. It would include sites selected in collaboration wi Canadian historians, cultural geographers, archaeologists, and oer local experts, covering areas of pre-expulsion development habitation, as well as ose settled e returning deportees. The Collection of images would cover bo e natural and built landscape and also e retention of tradional culture, as reflected in contemporary life and events such as e Festival Acadien in Caraquet. History: In 1884 Fr. Richard Marcel Richard asked a seamstress Mrs. Babineau to sew e first Acadian flag, which is on display at e museum at e Universite de Moncton. Recently, Fr. Richard of St. Martinville spoke proudly of his Acadian heritage in his home during e French mass in St. Martinville for e Commemoration of e Deportation. It was a very nice event.
