DE ST-LAURENT and his wife Rose Suzanne MONGÉ were both born in Guadeloupe as was Dr. David DE LAURÉAL. Guadeloupean Creole is and has been the lingua franca of Guadeloupeans, even though a minority may have spoken French in the 19th century as well. Rose MONGÉ DE ST-LAURENT operated a boarding school at St. Martinville known as the Pensionnat St-Laurent.
