2 brewhouse & kitchen BREWS Brewedright here in our microbrewery MYDDLETON AMERICAN STYLE ALE BLONDE ALE 4.5% PINT 4.30 SIMPLE, BALANCED, REFRESHING The Myddleton family certainly put their stamp on London during the early 17th century. Sir Hugh Myddleton, younger brother of Sir Thomas Lord Mayor of London, is remembered not only for being the Royal Jeweller but for his love of engineering and his philanthropic nature which led him to being the driving force (and finance) behind the construction of the New River which brought clean water to the fast growing population of London. Although at one time it was safer to drink beer than the water of London, now, thanks to Sir Hugh, not only is the beer loads better but the water is safe to drink too! ARC ANGEL ENGLISH STYLE ALE SESSION BITTER 3.6% PINT 3.80 TRADITIONAL, CARAMEL, BITTER Our traditional English Bitter, named after the thriving Angel Inn, so renowned that in 1901 the tube station was actually named in its honour. It s remarkable to think that from the fifteenth century until 1965, only a stone s throw from this very site, the Angel was brewing and serving its famous Bitter. WATCHMAKER ENGLISH STYLE ALE STRONG BITTER 5.5% PINT 4.55 DARK, COMPLEX, HOPPY From the 1600s to 1800s the most desirable words on a watch wasn t Swiss made, it was made in Britain as English watchmakers were considered the best in their profession, and the watchmaking industry centred around the borough of Islington. Their craftsmanship of producing such a superior quality product became their downfall as they failed to recognise the emerging demand from the masses for a cheaper watch. CHAPLIN IPA AMERICAN IPA 6.0% PINT 4.55 INTENSE, BITTER, HOPPY Arlington Way, Islington is where one of the area s most famous residents Charlie Chaplin grew up. Obviously inspired by his parents who were music hall stars, appearing regularly at Sadler s Wells Theatre, the young Chaplin went on to have success on both sides of the Atlantic and to become one of the most famous actors in the history of Hollywood. SPANDAU B IPA SESSION IPA 4.0% PINT 4.00 LIGHT, BITTER, HOPPY To cut a long story short we had to brew a beer to celebrate the talent born and bred here in Islington in the form of 1980 s new wave band Spandau Ballet members Tony, Gary and Martin. In their honour we have created a fantastic blonde ale to remind us of one of their most memorable hits Gold. Keep your eyes peeled for our seasonal brews SS16/SG/ISL

3 AMERICAN STYLE ALE Categorized by their clean flavour and bold use of hops. The exceptions are Blonde Ales, which are more neutral with no prominent flavour. Easy drinking simple beer BEAVERTOWN GAMMA RAY 5.4% PINT 5.90 PALE, HOPPY, AROMATIC The concept was to create a juicy, tropical beer, believe it or not the guys at Beavertown had never brewed a pale ale when they started. Everyone at Beavertown loved spacemen and lasers so they named this brew Gamma Ray and Nick Dwyer drew the design -drawing heavily from Mars Attacks and Warren Ellis graphic novels. MEANTIME YAKIMA RED 4.1% PINT 5.05 RUBY, FRUITY, CITRUSY First appeared as a draught special in Meantime Yakima Red is brewed with British and German malts to give it a deep ruby colour. The recipe makes use of 5 hop varieties from the Yakima Valley, Washington State. ANCHOR STEAM BEER 4.8% 355ML 4.90 AMBER, AROMATIC, CARAMEL First brewed in 1896, Anchor Steam Beer derives its unusual name from the 19th century when steam was a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions. BRIXTON BREWERY RELIANCE PALE ALE 4.2% 330ML 4.60 ALE, CRISP, REFRESHING Raises a glass to the art deco arches of Reliance Arcade in Brixton, where local cobblers and tailors still practice their crafts and skill with precision. Floor malted English Barley provides the clean, crisp backbone to bright American hop flavours. LITTLE CREATURES PALE ALE 5.2% 330ML 5.10 GOLDEN, CITRUSY, DRY The name Little Creatures is inspired by a song lyric from the Talking Heads Little Creatures album and refers to the live yeast cells that turn the sugars in malt wort into ethanol. The brewery released this pale ale (it s first beer) back in SIERRA NEVADA PALE ALE 5.6% 350ML 4.60 AMBER, CITRUSY, DRY On his early trips to Yakima, WA for hops, Ken Grossman (founder of Sierra Nevada) fell in love with the flavours and aromas of the Cascade hop. The pure and intense citrus-pine flavours became one of the signatures of Sierra Nevada, and in turn, helped define the West Coast style of brewing. WILD CARD KING OF HEARTS 4.5% 330ML 4.85 BLONDE, REFRESHING, AROMATIC Starting out as cuckoo brewers trading on the back of a personal credit card the team behind Wild Card eventually managed to setup their own brewery in Walthamstow with the backing of peer-to-peer lending from local supporters. Their King of Hearts employs a blend of Centennial, Citra & Simcoe hops.

4 BELGIAN STYLE ALE Their spicy and fruity flavour derives from the unique yeast they use, they also tend to be somewhat stronger than other beers. Defined by where they are brewed, so it is a very diverse category. TONGERLO BLOND 6.0% PINT 6.50 BLONDE, INTENSE, AROMATIC Tongerlo are officially certified Belgian Abbey beers. During centuries, the Norbertine monks of the Tongerlo abbey have devoted themselves to the art of beer brewing. This dedication was recognised when Tongerlo Blond was crowned the World s Best Beer in BELLEROSE 6.5% 330ML 5.25 AMBER, CITRUSY, HOPPY Brewed at Le Brasserie Des Sources in Northern France. Bellerose draws its inspiration from the 1950 s era, a period during which beer was intensely hoppy and stoutly refreshing. Uses an innovative cocktail of 3 different hops sourced from 3 different countries. DUVEL TRIPEL HOP 9.5% 330ML 8.00 GOLDEN, CITRUSY, TROPICAL Brewed with three hop varieties and each year the third hop is changed to provide its own unique taste and aroma. This keeps the final flavour profile suprisingly exciting for beer lovers. Please ask a member of the team for details of this year s offering. LA CHOUFFE 8.0% 330ML 6.50 GOLDEN, SPICY, BALANCED This strong blond gnome beer, first brewed in 1982, today accounts for 80% of the brewery s output. Not only did the brewers make history with this, their first Ardennes tripel, but the story of the beer s origins also went down a storm: how it was brewed from an original recipe, whispered into the brewers ear by gnomes from the Houffalize area. TIMMERMANS OUDE GUEZE 5.5% 375ML 8.00 GOLDEN, AROMATIC, TART Known as the champagne of beers, especially as it s only available as a limited edition. The special flavour derives from its timehonoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, aged for 3 years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. WESTMALLE DUBBEL 7.0% 330ML 5.30 DARK, FRUITY, SPICY Since 1856 the monks have been brewing a dark Trappist beer along with their table beer. Since the recipe was modified in 1926, they have been brewing slightly heavier beer. This is the foundation of today s Dubbel. The creamy head has the fragrance of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. WESTMALLE TRIPEL 9.5% 330ML 6.75 GOLDEN, SPARKLING, FRUITY Nicknamed the mother of all tripels. This type of beer was first brewed in Westmalle abbey in 1934 when the new brewing hall came into use. The current formula has stayed the same since A clear, golden yellow Trappist beer that undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle.

5 CIDER KOPPERBERG MIXED FRUIT Crisp, fresh and sometimes matured in oak vats to develop a rich flavour. Usually with a slightly sparkling, either dry or sweet finish. KOPPERBERG PEAR ASPALL SUFFOLK DRAUGHT 5.5% PINT 4.60 GOLDEN, FRUITY, DRY Established by Clement Chevallier the Aspall cyder-making business has been family run since Clement planted the orchards at Aspall Hall in Suffolk. The Chevallier family still live and work among Clement s orchards and today Aspall is run by the eighth generation of the family. ORCHARD PIG REVELLER 4.5% 500ML 4.90 Bursting with blackcurrants and raspberries, Kopperberg Mixed Fruit Cider is rich and indulgent -best served cold over mountains of ice. 4.5% 500ML 4.90 The juices of plump pears are infused with naturally occurring soft water, to create the perfect combination of a refreshingly light and fruity cider, with the punch of a strong pear taste. KOPPERBERG STRAWBERRY & LIME 4.5% 500ML 4.90 Like summer in a glass; a splash of fresh strawberries in apple juice, and a squeeze of tangy lime. Best enjoyed served over ice. 4.5% PINT 4.40 LIGHT, FRUITY, TANGY It all started in the noughties, just outside Glastonbury, when Andrew and Neil were devouring their barnstormingly good homemade cider and a hog roast with friends. This draught cider Reveller is a celebration of Somerset. please ask about our guest ciders

6 IPA A prominent hop flavour and an assertive bitterness with an even wider categorisation of Pale Ale. It was their popularity in British India which led to the name of India Pale Ale. BIG HUG HIBERNATION (WHITE IPA) 5.2% PINT 5.50 PALE, FRUITY, BITTER Cloudy and full-bodied like a wheat beer, tastes like a US IPA. Hobo brewers Big Hug first brewed this beer with our Head Brewer Pete Hughes at our Portsmouth brewpub back in They liked it so much that it is now their signature beer. BEAVERTOWN NECK OIL 4.3% 330ML CAN 4.60 LIGHT, HOPPY, PINEY Beavertown s everyday, all day, easy drinking IPA started life as a home-brew. They wanted to create a beer you can pick up and appreciate or simply get down ya neck. The skulls on the front are the crew they had when they first canned it. The people that made it happen. BREWDOG PUNK IPA 5.6% 330ML 4.60 VERY PALE, FRUITY, BISCUITY The scene-stealing flagship is an India Pale Ale that has become a byword for craft beer rebellion; synonymous with the insurgency against mass-produced, lowest common denominator beer. Punk IPA charges the barricades to fly its colours from the ramparts - full-on, full-flavour; at full-throttle. BRIXTON ELECTRIC IPA 6.5% 330ML 4.80 PALE, MALTY, HOPPY Inspired by Electric Avenue, the beating heart of Brixton. This full-on IPA is an assault on the senses -much like it s namesake. This beer is all about the interplay between malt and hop - the perfect harmony of sweet and bitter. BROOKLYN E.IPA 6.9% 355ML CAN 5.25 GOLDEN, AROMATIC, BITTER Originally a summer seasonal this beer has been getting rave reviews since becoming a year round offering in Brooklyn use English malts and hops to brew this in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India. VICTORY HOP DEVIL 6.7% 355ML 4.70 PALE, CITRUSY, SPICY After meeting on a school bus in 1973 whilst they were still in 5th grade Ron Barchet and Bill Covaleski would go onto found Victory brewing company (albeit some years later). The mythical Hop Devil resides in the lore of farmers. Victory s Hop Devil is the real deal. Bold, spicy and menacingly delicious. VICTORY VITAL IPA 6.5% 355ML CAN 4.70 PALE, AROMATIC, SPICY The brewery from Pennsylvania tout this as the only IPA you ll need. Specifically produced to be solely distributed in cans, damn bold and damn damn tasty.

7 ENGLISH STYLE ALE A slightly fruity character which sets them apart from American Style Ales. Also tend to be slightly more reserved in their use of hops. 8 LAGER Dry and with a very clean simple flavour. American lagers are dry and light, German lagers have a fuller body and Amber & Black Lagers are the fullest bodied in the category. ASAHI SUPER DRY 5.0% PINT 4.90 CRISP, CITRUSY, DRY Asahi Super Dry is by far the most popular high-quality beer in Japan. Since its debut in 1987 as Japan s first dry beer, it has continued to improve the taste and excitement of beer. Its taste has set a new standard that is acknowledged around the world today. KROMBACHER DARK 4.7% PINT 5.10 DARK, MALTY, BALANCED Family owned and operated since 1803, Krombacher is the most popular and No.1 premium beer brand in Germany. This dark lager is brewed accordance with the German purity laws and is made with a combination of different roasted malts. ORANJEBOOM 3.9% PINT 4.00 LIGHT, FRUITY, CARAMEL D Oranjeboom brewery was founded in Rotterdam in 1671 with Oranjeboom lager being brewed from the mid-19th century onwards. The lager takes its name from the orange tree which symbolises the Dutch royal family tree. SAM ADAMS BOSTON LAGER 4.8% PINT 4.85 AMBER, MALTY, HOPPY When Jim Koch left his corporate job to start a brewery, people told him he was crazy. But after tasting that first batch of Boston Lager in his kitchen, he knew he had something that just might prove his doubters wrong. VEDETT EXTRA BLOND 5.2% PINT 4.95 PALE, FRUITY, HOPPY Vedett Extra Blond has been satisfying the clientele of Antwerp-Brussels since But this blond lager isn t taking its history too seriously; it fully embraces its cult following with a distinct retro design. AUGUSTINER EDELSTOFF 5.6% 500ML 5.80 GOLD, REFRESHING, DRY When most German breweries updated their bottles to a slim, more modern design, Augustiner stuck with its original classic form. Often nicknamed the Bauarbeiterhalbe (construction worker s half litre) this beer is crisp, refreshing and the German purity law defined. CAVE CREEK CHILLI BEER 4.2% 330ML 4.60 GOLDEN, PALE, SPICY Crazy Ed Chileen started brewing his own beer in The beer was so good that the yuppies started driving in from all over to try it. Something had to be done so whenever one of them whined for a wedge of lime Ed put a hot serrano chili pepper into the beer instead. Amazingly many of them actually liked the stuff.

9 FRUH KOLSCH MONGOZO PILS GOLDEN, MALTY, DRY GOLDEN, BITTER LEMON, BREADY 4.8% 500ML 4.85 The original Fruh Brew Haus is the second largest beer hall in Germany with over 2.5 million visitors annually. Distinctive to the city of Cologne, the name Kolsch is protected by law so that only beers brewed in and around the city can bear the name. MODELO ESPECIAL 4.5% 355ML % 330ML 5.80 The word Mongozo means cheers! in the language of the Chokwe people of Africa. This Pilsner is the first lager in the world brewed to combine three unique elements: glutenfree, organic and Fairtrade in one bottle. The beer is brewed using only high-grade organic barley malt, organic hops and Fairtrade certified-organic rice. GOLDEN, SWEET, CRISP In 1925 the team behind Modelo Especial set out to create a model beer in Tacuba, Mexico City all the while taking inspiration from the internationally renowned German brewmasters. They even went so far as to pay their first brewmaster an annual salary in gold. Under the guidance of one of our resident beer experts sample 8 different beers, some of which have been brewed right on-site in the microbrewery by our very own Head Brewer! 10 STOUT & PORTER Very closely related and are always dark beers generally brewed with roasted malts. The two styles are intertwined though flavour-wise Porters are often more chocolatey whilst Stouts taste more roasted. WHITSTABLE BAY STOUT 4.2% PINT 4.40 DARK, SILKY, COMPLEX The name draws upon the heritage of the town and its famed oysters. When stouts first emerged in the 18th century, oysters were not the delicacy they are today and were actually a common snack served in pubs. ANCHOR PORTER 5.6% 355ML 4.80 BLACK, SMOOTH, CHOCOLATEY Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter style beer when it was introduced in The brew is hopped at a high rate and naturally carbonated. The result is dark in the glass but surprisingly light on the palate. BROOKLYN CHOCOLATE STOUT 10.0% 355ML 6.50 BLACK, ROASTED, CHOCOLATE There is no chocolate in Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Brooklyn Brewery use a heavily roasted malt called chocolate malt, which develops a chocolatey flavour and aroma in the beer which bears a striking resemblance to good 70% cacao. DRAGON STOUT 7.5% 284ML 4.60 DARK, SWEET, CHOCOLATE Still popular amongst locals in Jamaica this stout was first introduced back in 1920 and comes served in a rather unique 284ml bottle. The unique brewing process utilizes a Grade A two-row European malt. It s got the riddim. LEFT HAND MILK STOUT 6.0% 355ML 5.30 BLACK, SWEET, DRY This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800 s. The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year round stout. This particular Milk Stout comes all the way from Left Hand brewery in Colorado.

11 WHEAT & FRUIT beer Made with a large portion of wheat which makes them cloudy and very pale. This style of beer is generally not bitter and can even be described as sweet in some cases. Fruit beers are easy drinking with a fruity aroma and taste. GOOSE ISLAND % 355ML 4.60 PALE, CRISP, FRUITY Named after Goose Island in Chicago that was home to seasonal flocks of birds the brewery presents this beer densely populated with flavour and loaded with character. MYSTIC PEACH 3.7% 330ML 4.50 CLOUDY, PEACHY, SUBTLY SWEET Haacht, an independent, fmaily-run brewery for over 110 years offer this special fruit beer. Contains 26% real peach juice. WEIHENSTEPHANER HEFE WEISSBIER TIMMERMANS FRAMBOISE LIGHT, FRUITY, BANANA Timmermans Framboise is made by adding 100% natural raspberry flavouring to lambic. After a period of maturation in oak barrels, the beer turns a delicate shade of pink that is sure to delight. 5.4% PINT 5.30 Standing on Weihenstephan Hill after nearly a thousand years, the Weihenstephan Monastery Brewery is now the oldest existing brewery in the world and this Hefe Weissbier is brewed according to their centuries-old brewing tradition. EINSTOCK WHITE ALE 5.2% 330ML 4.95 CRISP, CITRUSY, SMOOTH The Einstock Brewery is located just 60 miles south of the Arctic circle in the fishing port of Akureyri, Iceland. There, the water flows from rain and prehistoric glaciers delivering the purest water, the perfect foundation for brewing. ERDINGER DUNKEL 5.3% 500ML 5.20 DARK, FRUITY, ROASTED Hailing from the world s largest weiss beer brewery Erdinger Dunkel is a rich and smooth wheat beer from Erdinger Weissbrau. It owes its full-bodied flavour to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production. 4.0% 330ML 5.25 DRY, SMOOTH, RASPBERRY TIMMERMANS KRIEK 4.0% 330ML 5.25 DRY, SMOOTH, CHERRY Timmermans Kriek blends its famed lambic with cherry sweetness for a beer that can quench any thirst. Its natural freshness is said to make you blush for joy. VEDETT EXTRA WHITE 4.7% 330ML 4.25 CRISP, CITRUSY, DRY By their own admission Vedett don t take themselves too seriously unless they re talking about quality. The beer was refreshed and re-launched in 2003, but it has been in production since the 1940s.

12 Woodaged & smoked Wood-aged beers are infused with oaky flavours by being aged in wood barrels (such as Whiskey or Rum). Smoked beers take their flavour from specially smoked malt used in the brewing process. INNIS & GUNN TOASTED OAK IPA 5.6% PINT 6.00 PALE, ZESTY, VANILLA This pioneering Toasted Oak IPA is matured for 41 days over specially toasted American oak heartwood chips after being brewed using three charges of the British hop varieties Styrian Goldings and Goldings. INNIS & GUNN ORIGINAL 6.6% 330ML 4.50 COPPER, BUTTERSCOTCH, VANILLA Honey coloured with burned butterscotch flavours which are quickly followed by a vanilla & toffee sweetness, and a warm, long finish. INNIS & GUNN RUM FINISH 6.8% 330ML 5.10 REDDISH, TOASTY, SPICY Dark reddish copper coloured with aromas of vanilla, raisins, oak and hints of toffee, caramel and spicy rum - and a lightly toasted/oak finish. SCHLENKERLA SMOKED BEER 5.1% 500ML 5.95 DARK, SMOKY, BBQ Historically when the Babylonians brewed beer they had to dry the grain over an open fire, a process which resulted in the smoke penetrating the malt and giving it a smoky flavour. Schlenkerla held onto this traditional process. As the brewery states Preserving tradition means to keep the fire burning, not conserve the ashes.

13 BEERTAILS BREWHOUSE ICED TEA 6.75 A twist on the classic prohibition cocktail. All the usual suspects: vodka, gin, rum, tequila and triple sec come together with fresh lemon and ginger beer before being topped with our house bitter to ensure it really packs a punch. MICHELADA 6.75 Picture a Bloody Mary made with beer curious? We thought you might be! Fresh lime, tomato juice, Worcestershire and hot sauces are topped with our very own IPA. Guaranteed to sharpen your sense, the adventurous can even super charge this recipe with a shot of Tequila. ESPRESSO BREW 6.75 Sometimes we want a little pick me up as we wind down. A shot of espresso is shaken with Tia Maria before being topped with our Dry Stout. This indulgent concoction is great both as an aperitif or an after dinner drink. cocktails MOJITO 6.75 The Cuban classic: white rum is muddled with sugar and fresh lime before being churned with crushed ice and fragrant mint leaves. COSMOPOLITAN 6.75 A modern classic. Vodka is shaken with triple sec orange liqueur and cranberry juice before being strained into an elegant martini glass. RUM BUCK 6.75 Dark rum and a healthy helping of freshly squeezed lime comes topped with fiery ginger beer.
