1 2018 San Diego County Fair, June 1 - July 4 Del Mar, California A one-day BJCP/AHA-Sanctioned Competition for Homemade Beer, Mead, Cider and Perry. Chris Shadrick, Coordinator 2018 CALENDAR PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BROCHURE BEFORE ENTERING Registration is only accepted online. Visit to enter and pay the processing fees. Processing fees are non-refundable. Entry Registration Deadline is Friday, April 13. All entry registrations must be submitted online at by 11:59pm (Pacific Daylight Time). Entry Office extended hours to 7:00pm on April 13. Late entries will not be accepted. Delivery of Entries: Sunday, April 22, 9:00am - 4:00pm. (Shipped entries must arrive by Friday, April 20). Judging: Closed session, Sunday, May 6. Awards Ceremony and Exhibitor Tasting: Sunday, May 20, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The location will be sent via after the online registration. Judging Results: Will be posted by Tuesday, May 22. IMPORTANT CHANGE IN AWARDS CEREMONY PROCEDURE: All leftover bottles will be poured at the Awards Ceremony. Individual entry bottles will not be returned to exhibitors. Find your bottle, and have the server open it and pour it for you. Exhibitors will not be allowed to grab their bottles from the cooler trays. Paid servers will pour. Exhibitors will be allowed to share in this group tasting. Judging Comments: Will be mailed out no later than Friday, June 1. Questions? 2 COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS: 1. The Local and State Rules apply to this department, available at sdfair.com/entry. No entry will be accepted should the exhibitor describe conditions under which he/she will exhibit. The 22nd DAA (San Diego County Fair) will not be responsible for loss or damage of any kind. 2. Eligibility: Amateur homebrewers 21 years or older. You may not enter if you are a professional brewer or have applied for State or Federal licensing. 3. Limits: There is a limit of (1) one entry per class. For example, you may enter a 16A Sweet Stout and a 16B Oatmeal Stout, but not two 16A Sweet Stouts. 4. Entry Processing Fees: $10.00 per entry. 5. Enter your information carefully and proofread to ensure accuracy for exhibit labels. It is important that addresses and telephone numbers on your online entry registration are correct for contact purposes. 6. Each entry must consist of two (2) full 12 oz. unmarked bottles. DO NOT use 16 oz. or 22 oz. bottles. They are not acceptable. Specially designed carafes, jars, other than the 12 oz. bottles will not be accepted. 7. Corked or swing-top bottles are permissible, if the bottles are 12 oz. No Grolsch bottles. 8. Remove ALL LABELS, if you are re-using commercial bottles. 9. Obscure any markings on caps with a black marker. 10. If you cannot personally deliver your entry, send a written letter with a designee at time of delivery for your Fair passes and tasting tickets for entrants into the awards ceremony. Tickets are for exhibitors and their guests only. 11. Each entrant will receive two (2) tickets to the Fair and (2) tickets to attend the private tasting and awards ceremony. Only ticket holders will be admitted. 12. All leftover beers entered in the competition will be available for tasting at the awards ceremony. Opened and empty bottles are not allowed to leave the building. No Exceptions. 13. There will be a check-in process at the event and the exhibitor must be present with guest(s). All entrants will be required to bring the waiver form to the private tasting and awards ceremony. No outside beer bottles or food will be permitted at the awards ceremony and tasting event. Snacks will be available at the event. 14. Anyone under age 21 will not be permitted at the awards ceremony and tasting event. No Exceptions! Delivery/Ship Beer(S) To: Personal Delivery: Del Mar Fairgrounds access is through Solana Gate off Via de la Valle. Upon receipt of the entry registration, a map of the entry delivery location will be sent via . Shipping Instructions: Shipped entries (beer bottles) must arrive at the San Diego County Fair. Enclose a copy of your completed/paid online entry receipt. Fair passes, Waiver forms and Awards Ceremony tickets will be given at delivery or mailed if you ship. At the discretion of the Coordinator, entries not meeting these eligibility or entry requirements will be disqualified. The Coordinator reserves the right to combine divisions in order to maintain the competitive nature of the event as well as to place an entry in the correct division/class if warranted. Page 2

Specialty Cider/Perry AWARDS The San Diego County Fair offers ribbons, 1st through 5th place, if merited, for each class. Donated awards will also be awarded for selected winners. All winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. Ribbons and notes from judging will be distributed at that time. San Diego County Fair Home Brewer of the Year Award: One home brewer will receive additional accolades, based on weighted average of amount and placement of ribbons. Best of Show: Garage Brewing Co has generously offered to brew the Best of Show Beer and serve it at one of their locations. This information will be sent out to all entrants that are registered for this year s competition. First-place winners, in each class, will compete for Best of Show honors. Divisions will compete for Best of Show Beer. Divisions will compete for Best of Show Mead/Cider/Perry. We are looking for qualified beer judges. Please go to and click Homebrew
