Staff Contacts: Gail White Competition Contact Nancy Nortz Creative Programs Senior Manager CreativePrograms@okstatefair.com Quick Reference Guide: Creative Arts Important Dates The Home Brew competition guide will be posted and online registration will open Monday, July 2, Registration will close for the Home Brew Contest on Wednesday, August 15, Delivery of Beer: Home Brew entries will be delivered to the Administration Building General Pershing Boulevard between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 27 through Friday, August 31, Judging: Brew judging will be done live during the Fair on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the Middle Bay Demonstration Area of the Creative Arts Building. Announcement of Awards: Results will be announced on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. on the Creative Arts Stage.
2 Home Brew Competition Guide home brew Department Regulations Exhibitor and Exhibit Information Who may enter? Only Oklahoma residents How many exhibits can be entered? Exhibitors may make only one entry in each class up to 5 total entries. What is the cost to enter? The Home Brew Contest is $5 per entry. (Pay online with Visa, MasterCard or Discover) What if I am not sure in which class to enter my exhibit? Please contact the Home Brew Superintendent to assure that your brew is entered in the correct class. Can I mail in my exhibit? No. It must be delivered between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to the Administration Building at State Fair Park. The address 3001 W. General Pershing Blvd., OKC Exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor except in the classes for Antiques and Collections. Antiques and Collections must be the bona fide property of exhibitor. Each exhibit will be evaluated by qualified individuals and the decision of the judge(s) is final. All cash prizes will be paid from the awards as marked by the judges. Premium payouts for the Creative Arts Department will be mailed to exhibitor after the close of the Fair. Within 90 days from the last day of the 2018 Oklahoma State Fair, it is the responsibility of the Payee to file, in writing, a claim for lost or incorrect awards. If it is ascertained that an exhibitor has made any false statement in regard to any article or exhibit, or, if any exhibitor attempts to harass or interfere with the judge or judges in the performance of their duties, the exhibitor shall be excluded from competition and forfeit all premiums. Any protest must be made in writing and accompanied by a deposit of $50, which will be forfeited if protest is not sustained. Said protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal and must be filed with the Manager by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday of the closing week of the Fair. Judges will be encouraged to view exhibits after items have been placed on display with names. If they believe that an exhibitor is not in the correct skill level, that judge will be encouraged to protest the placement. A full listing of Home Brew winners will be displayed in the Creative Arts Building for the run of the Fair. Deadline: August 15, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. REGISTRATION INFORMATION How to Enter: Competition guides and entry forms will be posted online on June 1, Online Registration: Online registration will open on July 2, Deadline: Registration must be completed by August 15, Delivery: All entries must be delivered to the Administration Building at State Fair Park between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. between August 27-31, Oklahoma State Fair Page 2
3 CREATIVE ARTS CALENDAR June 1 Competition Guides posted online. July 2 Online registration opens. Online registration period is July 2 - August 15. Note: Deadline for Home Brew is 5:00 p.m. on August 15, NO LATE REGISTRATIONS. August 16 Note: The information below is for Creative Arts Contests OTHER than Home Brew & Wine, in case you are interested in entering. Late registrations (for contests other than Home Brew & Wine) are processed with a $10 late fee. This fee is per exhibitor (not per entry) for those registering after August 15, 2018 but no later than September 2, No registrations are accepted between September 2-9, After this time, we will accept onsite registrations for contests other than Home Brew & Wine.) September 14 Judging for Home Brew Contest. September 8-9 On-site registrations (for contests other than Home Brew & Wine) will be processed with a $15 fee. September 8-9 Entry clerks will receive items (for contests other than Home Brew & Wine) at the Creative Arts Building at the following times: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. September 10 Creative Arts entries are judged.* This is closed judging. Exhibitors are not permitted to attend. We encourage you to come to the Fair to view results live. Judging results will be posted online as soon as they are available. Do not call or to ask for results. They cannot be given out prior to posting. *Excludes wine, home brew and live contests September Oklahoma State Fair opens! The Creative Arts Building will host a series of demonstrations, live contests, and special events every day of the Fair. September 23 Last day of the 2018 Oklahoma State Fair. September Entry clerks will release exhibits upon presentation of a claim check at the Creative Arts Building at the following times: 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m Oklahoma State Fair Page 3
4 HOME BREW CONTEST Division 3700 Local Craft Brewery Sponsors Local Craft Breweries-In-Planning Sponsors Thank you to the many sponsors who make this event possible. Please support them. This competition is AHA/BJCP Sanctioned. Exhibitors may only enter 1 brew per class, up to 5 entries total. Registration is limited to 200 total entries. Important: Brewers must submit two 12 oz. bottles for each entry. When you enter, in addition to selecting the appropriate class, please put any related entry instructions that need to accompany the class. You can find the information in the BJCP Style Guide for the entry you are submitting. For instance, if entering a 25B. Saison, in the DESCRIPTION block, you must type in the strength (table, standard, super) and the color (pale, dark). BJCP Guidelines are available at Brews will be judged by BJCP 2015 Guidelines and participants will receive feedback forms for all entries. All judges supplied by Red Earth Brewers. Only amateur brewers may enter. An amateur brewer may work in but not brew for a local craft brewery. Identifying labels should be attached to each bottle with a rubber band only; glue and/or tape are unacceptable. Labels should contain the following information: Brewer s Name, Address, Division Class, BJCP Category and Sub-category. Competition will be open to all BJCP 2015 Beer, Cider and Mead Categories.
