'Trooping the Color' was just as magnificent as I had hoped with enough Pomp and Pageantry to last me a lifetime. g spwpc" wt lu u wku Luuc The Queen in green looked glorious, although I have to say her choice of lime green was a little alarming...but at least we could all see her. Prince Philip looked suitably stoic throughout, he got "dropped off" while the

2 Queen made her inspection of the troops.

3 One of the Guardsmen passed out on the Parade ground which was almost as exciting as the imminent arrival of Her Majesty. Fortunately, stretcher bearers were on hand to cart him off. And he can look forward to a disciplinary hearing later, one MUST remain standing in the presence of royalty. The horses and Guardsman from the five royal regiments were spectacular, the timing and precision of their marching simply incredible.

4 Afterwards we went to the Coldstream Guards Museum and had a lovely lunch. One of the Guardsmen kept us entertained with 'royal' stories and, although it poured with rain later that afternoon, our spirits were high as we left. So grateful to have been a part of the Queen's 90th Birthday celebrations.

5 We made it back to the USA in once piece, fortunately the exit from Europe wasn't half as eventful as my own country's. The rest of this newsletter details a few more exploits abroad and brings you up to date with English Rose Tea Room happenings. 6 Twinings Masterclass I had the pleasure of taking tea at Twinings. As it was a "class" I opted for the casual look rather than my normal dress & hat attire. Fascinating to learn that Twinings is the oldest tea merchant in the world and one of the oldest shops in London. I suprised myself by really enjoying the Green Teas, especially the Jasmine..and I'm normally a 'strong-black-tea-withmilk' kinda girl. Join me for my own Tea Class in 2017 I will be hosting my own "Tea History & Tea Tasting Class" at our local Foothills Community Foundation on January 20th, For more details and to reserve space call

8 "Keeping Up Appearances". Those of you familiar with "The Lady of the House Speaking" will recall Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) regaling neighbors and friends with tales of her 'hand-painted periwinkle china". Well, not to be out-done, here at the English Rose Tea Room we have our own hand-painted china, though less of the periwinkles and a lot more of the roses. Each piece is beautifully designed and painted by a very talented china painter from Illinois who paints the designs exclusively for us. 9 No doubt you have already seen the Opening Ceremony to the 2016 Summer Olympics, so now for the next two weeks (a fortnight in Brit speak) we will all be glued to the TV with our national pride pumped up and hopefully a good cup of tea in hand. In Great Britain, more tea is made during the commercial breaks on television than at any other time of the day. So my recommendation is to stock up on tea bags as they brew faster, then you can get back to watching the Rio Olympics. Oh, and of course we stock a HUGE range of tea bags in case you need any.

11 Who's been eating my porridge? A great time was had by bears and children alike at our 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Tea Party in July. Goldilocks (thank you Carlye) read from her storybook and children delighted in the Three Bears, the tea treats and of course the trunk of hats to try on. Thank you to my friend Priscilla from Prescott, AZ who sent us these photos.

12 I recently received a lovely handwritten letter (that's a novelty in itself these days). The letter and the enclosed book "That's Not English" were sent to me personally by the author Erin Moore, an American living in London. So I read the letter. Then I read the book. Hilarious! You have to read this yourself and for anyone whether American or English who finds themselves in the others' country, this book is for you. Sometimes I laughed out loud at the quirky differences between our two cultures; words with double meanings, words that translate into quite inappropriate meanings, explanations of the British love of tea, and the American's love of peanut butter. I thoroughly recommend the book and hope to be selling it in the Tea Room soon! Thank you Erin, for taking the time to write and entertain me with your witty observations of my home and countrymen and of those I have adopted.

14 Joy You'll recall back in April this year we lost our old white schnauzer Tia. Well sadly, her sister Joy passed away shortly after our return from England in July. To all doggie Mums and Dads we send our thoughts and well wishes for long and happy lives. Our dogs fill up our hearts with love but leave such a big hole when they are gone.

15 And finally... Next week in the UK is 'Afternoon Tea Week'. Hotels and Tea Rooms across the country will be hosting fabulous tea treats and pouring LOTS of cups of tea to accompany their delicacies.
