6 I am wearing a traditional costume from Mexico. the style varies by region but dresses are always colorful and beautifully decorated with embroidery and ribbons. traditional clothing TRADITIONAL clothing in mexico is still worn for festivals and ceremonies. Flowers are often worn in the hair to add to the beauty of the costume. DRESS YOUR PAPER DOLL IN THESE CLOTHES. 6
7 the people The Mexican people love to celebrate and they have holidays for many different days. Often, people will have a big family dinner, dress in traditional clothing and parade through the streets. Make a tissue paper flower for your hair. Stack 3 pieces of tissue paper together. Measure and cut three 6 strips of from the paper. Stack the nine pieces together. Accordion fold the stack of tissue every inch. Wrap a pipe cleaner securely around the folded stack. Mexican Fiestas "Fiesta" is the Spanish word for festival. Mexico has several different kinds of festivals, celebrated for religious, national and local reasons. Most of these festivals have parades, dancing and music. Generally, there is a party at the end of the celebration, and it is accompanied by traditional Mexican music. 8 The Flag The Flag of Mexico The green signifies hope and prosperity and represents independence. The white signifies peace and harmony and represents the Roman Catholic religion. 9 the land Most of mexico s bigger cities are located in the southern parts of the country. you ll find rainforests in the south and east and deserts in the West. there are mountains in the eastern and northern parts of the country. beautiful beaches on both coasts attract tourists. Mexico has two large desert regions both in the northern part of the country. mexico city is the capital of mexico. there is a blend of old and new from pyramids to skyscrappers & street vendors to malls. mexico s tropical climate attracts many tourists every year. beaches on both coasts can get very crowded with sunbathers. the Zapotecs, the Toltecs, the Aztecs, and the Maya have left behind ancient pyramids in mexico. 10 the culture in mexico, The day of the dead is celebrated from midnight oct 31st to nov. 2nd. it is considered a celebration of life and chance to honor deceased relatives. part of the celebration is for artists to make skulls of sugar and decorate them. Sugar Skull Face Paint In Mexico, skulls are not meant to be scary, people might paint their faces for their day of the dead celebration to honor relatives who have died. did? you know The marigold is the traditional flower used to honor the dead in mexico. it is yellow like the sun and represents life and hope. Make Your own face paint put a 1/4 cup of lotion in a small paper cup. Add food coloring. 12 wildlife in mexico Mexico has a diverse mix of wildlife including wolves, jaguars, pumas and iguanas. Marine animals are also varied with turtles, sharks, and whales. There are several critically endangered animals including the Mexican prairie dog, the San Quintin Kangaroo Rat, the Volcan Rabbit and the Oaxacan Pocket Gopher. geckos, called cuizas, are everywhere in mexico. they are completely harmless and help to keep homes free of bugs. mexicans consider them good luck. The Monarch Butterfly Cut it out! Every winter, monarch butterflies migrate from the eastern United States to a protected reserve in central Mexico. From October to March, millions of monarchs make the 2500 mile trip where they congregate forming colonies. These colonies transform the trees into moving orange masses, bending branches under their weight. Mexico HAS more than 1,000 varieties of cacti the MOST OF ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. INSTEAD OF LEAVES, CACTI HAVE THORNS TO PROTECT THE PLANT FROM BEING EATEN BY ANIMALS. CACTI ONLY GROW IN DESERTS AND STORE WATER IN THEIR STEMS. Fill a small container with dough or quick dry cement. Push a cactus-shaped rock into the base. Paint the rock to look like a cactus The Cocoa Tree Chocolate is made from cocoa beans. Cocoa trees only grow near the equator in rainy areas. South eastern Mexico is one of these areas. ALLERGEN ALERT Tomatoes, Jalapeño Peppers, Cilantro, Red Onion, Lime Juice, Salt, Corn, Vegetable Oil. Cut it out!
