By the law of averages you should get from 40 to 50 and could get as high as 100 varieties per 100 bulbs. Planted in a cutting bed they will give ample and diversified blooms for the home over a long period each spring, Each year we discard about 100 varieties to make room for the newcomers. These discards are added to this Novelty Mixture which is in a class by itself for those not interested in named varieties and yet who desire fine and unusual flowers over an extended period each spring. 100 bulbs for $10.00 EXTRA SPECIAL NOVELTY MIXTURE - Hard to believe but this is an improvement even on the Special Novelty Mixture, in that this year alone we have added 300 fine varieties which we have in surplus stocks and most of which sell for 5()f or more. No one else in this country can offer such a mixture at such a bargain price, and as we plan to grow fewer varieties yearly, advise you to take advantage of this stupendous offer. 100 bulbs for $15.00 NATURAL/IN(; MIXTURE - Do not confuse this with any offered elsewhere which at most include a dozen or less varieties - mostly discards. This is a handpicked mixture of the fine old varieties which have proven their ability to continue blooming for many years undisturbed. Take advantage of this now as these types are growing scarce. 7 THE DAFFODIL MART Nuttnll, Gloucester, Virginia George W. Phone OX PLEASE PLANT AT ONCE - if unahle to do so please open all bags so air may get to the bulbs - they will go into a heat and rot otherwise. We ship these bulbs at the proper planting time and urge you to get them in the ground at once to insure fine blooms next spring. A bulb which has made roots will not freeze. PLEASE NOTE! On the reverse side we have printed our Own Informative Classification of Daffodils - this is similar to the universally accepted and used Royal Horticultural Society of London's List with added numerals to better aid our customers in getting a true description of the variety. We no longer plan to reprint same in our yearly price lists therefore suggest you hold on to it for future reference. PLANTING INSTIZUCTiONS ion. DAFFonit,s Th0 main requirement is a well drained soil. They are not happy where water will stand a day or two after rains. Any good garden soil is ideal. VI OR Bulb Food (which we have been using for several years and can wholeheartedly recommend), cow manure or hone meal mixed in the soil at, or preferably before planting time, will produce bulbs of fine size. A top dressing of Vigoro during the winter months is always helpful or an application of cow manure at that time which also serves as a mulch. Wait at least a month after the bulbs are planted before applying the top dressing, thus 'allowing the root system to develop. The roots are active all winter, taking in and storing up nourishment. it is useless to fertilize your bulbs in the spring after blooming as once they have bloomed and the foliage starts to die down the bulbs are in a dormant stage. In the Northern states, plant deep enough so that the neck of the bulb is covered by 4 or 5 inches of earth after the ground has settled. In the Middle Atlantic States 3 or 4 inches is desirable; while in the southern states 2 or 3 inches is sufficient. For large blooms bulbs should be dug, divided arid replanted every 2 to 4 years, otherwise they become overcrowded, For show flowers, select a sheltered, well protected spot, this is especially important with some of the new highly rated red cups and pinks. Another point which we do not believe can he overlooked is the fact that it is imperative never to plant Daffodils in soil where bulbs have disappeared. Basal rot will readily attack the new bulbs and your efforts and money go for naught. Upon receipt examine bulbs carefully for any signs of mold or rot (we ship only sound bulbs, free from disease - all our bulbs are inspected twice yearly, growing and in storage but occasionally they overheat in transit and hence become soft.) Do not plant any thus affected but notify us at once. As is customary complaints shall. be deemed waived unless presented within 8 days after receipt of goods, lianiatulies With the increased interest in growing Miniatures and Rockery types we shall add a few words of suggestion in regards to them. Plant early, a. good root growth before cold weather is essential, especially as they should not he planted too deep - the tiny fellows simply haven't the strength to push through a lot of soil - however in the North be sure to mulch them well, We have had great success in planting the wee ones in pots and placing the pots in earth - this affords them added protection and as they are planted shallow prevents marauding rodents or animals from scratching them up and rolling them off. Animals do not eat Daffodil bulbs which are rank poison to them. To protect your other bulbs from mole ruins and resultant mice it is often advisable to plant in wire baskets. However, the repeated use of Mole - Dots here on the farm keeps us from their depredations. The miniature daffodils, scillas and chinadoxa are lovely when planted in the pockets at the base of tree trunks where they have a natural protection against winds and weeds, get plenty of early spring sun, enough moisture and sufficient food.
