1 good buys APPLES We still have a nice array of crisp, sweet Fujis, Galas, Honeycrisps, Pink Lady from the Chiles Family orchards near Charlottesville. But you need to act fast for the best choice as this record season is slowly coming to an end. PEARS The Pacific Northwest pear harvest has been bountiful this year! We are in the midst of the luscious pear season with beautiful fruit the subtle aromatic allure of D Anjous, shapely and earthy boscs, and bright yellow bartletts are moving fast. We also have red bartletts as well as forelles, seckles and comice pears. GRAPES California continues their record grape harvest and the crop is outstanding; we have firm, plump reds and super sweet green varieties. ROMAINE & OTHER LEAFY GREENS ALERT CDC WARNING We are very closely monitoring the CDC guidance on Romaine to ensure the safety of all our customers and their guests. We are working around the clock to offer you appropriate substitutes, but be aware that prices are super high due to demand. BUTTERNUT, ACORN, AND SPAGHETTI SQUASH Winter squash is perfect in soup, as a fry substitute or roasted and tossed on a warm winter salad. They can be tough to cut so here are some tips--a sturdy knife and heating the squash in the microwave for five minutes can soften the flesh. MARKETNOTES PRODUCE MARKET REPORT NOVEMBER 26, 2018 Peak Season SATSUMA MANDARINS These gorgeous citrus fruits are perfect gifts, as well as wonderful in any dish. They are only here during the holiday season and come with the green leaves still intact. TANGERINES Honey tangerines have arrived from Florida. The exterior has some scarring, but it s just the natural color and texture of the skin. The flesh is delightfully sweet and juicy. KUMQUATS Don t forget to order kumquats! It s another holiday favorite and they make a great garnish for cocktails, on holiday buffets, or loaded into festive floral arrangements. POMEGRANATES The market is moving fast on beautiful pomegranates a perfect holiday addition to your menus. GRAPEFRUIT Tart-sweet juicy goodness and dark ruby red color have recently arrived from Florida and Texas to rave reviews. BLUEBERRIES, BLACKBERRIES, AND RASPBERRIES With the exception of strawberries, which have hit a rough patch, berries are readily available and quality is excellent! LEMONS Quality and quantity are great from AZ and CA. PARSLEY, CILANTRO, AND LEEKS Still great selections available for your end-of-fall dishes.
