This is Jeanette. Kurtis Violet Kelly Lucas, MD Mwanje, MD Tse, MD Farewell to our Phone Operator.This is Jeanette. For 32 years, patients have had the privilege of hearing that calming voice on the end of the phone when calling in for appointments, refills, contacting a physician, etc. On August 23, 2016, the staff will be saying best wishes and happy retirement to our Jeanette as she hangs up her head phones for the last time. We will miss you, Jeanette and wish only the best to you and Darrel in this next milestone journey in your life.

2 Page 2 Let s Meet our Newest Employees On June 3, 2016, we said farewell to our long time Administrative Assistant of 18 years, Jean Camarata. We wish her and Jerry many happy years of retirement together. Jean will continue to do some marketing pieces for us at home, just to stay in touch. Julie Kruger: Administrative Assistant Julie joined the FPC family in May, 2016 to fill the position left by a long time employee who retired. She has many years experience of administrative roles and has a Graphic Art degree. Julie and her husband, Delmar, reside in Parkersburg area. She has one daughter, one son and enjoys spending time with her 8 beautiful granddaughters and 1 step grandson. Haley Schmitt: Phone Scheduler/Receptionist Haley joined the FPC family on July 25, Haley graduated from Hawkeye Community College with an Executive Assistant degree and a Medical Administrative Assistant degree. She is married with 1 daughter and 3 yorkies. Griffin Dye: Patient Navigator/Health Coach Griffin graduated from University of Iowa with her BA in Health and Sports Studies. She also has a master s in Public Health through Des Moines University. She will be assisting our patients with transitioning from hospital to home. Griffin is passionate about health and helping patients reach their health and wellness goals. Her expertise is in health coaching, educational support, goal setting, and disease management. Watch for her Health and Wellness sections of our newsletter! In the next few pages, Griffin is sharing with you her relevant and informative Health and Wellness topics which she focused on summer for this edition The temperatures are rising and the days are getting longer. Here are some tips to help make your summer the best and healthiest one yet! This issue will include summer safety information, local Farmers Markets information and a delicious summer recipe. Enjoy! 3 Page 3 Grill and Chill Whether you prefer burgers off the grill or a picnic in the park, one thing you don t want on the menu this summer is foodborne illness. Take these steps to help keep germs at bay. Wash your hands before and after handling food When taking foods off the grill, do not put cooked food items back on the same plat that previously held raw food When grilling foods, preheat the coals on your grill for 2030 minutes, or until the coals are lightly coated with ash Use a meat thermometer to ensure that food reaches a safe internal themperature Never let raw meat, cooked food or cut fresh fruits or Take these steps to help keep germs vegetables sit at room temperature more than two hours before at bay when grilling foods.. putting them in the cooler or refrigerator (one hour when the temperature is above 90 F) Make sure to pack plenty of extra ice or freezer packs in your cooler to ensure a constant cold temperature Fun in the Sun Your summer plans may include hitting the beach or just spending more time outdoors. Make sure you plan to avoid sunburn, which can increase your risk of skin cancer. Seek shade, especially durring midday hours (10 am to 4 pm), when UV rays are strongest and do the most damage Cover up with clothing to protect exposed skin. A long-sleeved shirt and long pants with a tight weave are best Wear a hat with a wide brim to shade the face, head, ears and neck Avoid the midday sun during hours of 10 AM to Grab shades that wrap around and block as close to 100% of both 4 PM. 4 Page 4 Swim Safely Swimming is a fun way to stay cool and be active. Before diving in, make sure you know these tips for staying health and safe while swimming: Avoid swallowing pool water or even getting it in your mouth Shower before swimming and wash your hands after using the toilet or changing diapers Take children on bathroom breaks or check diapers often Keep an eye on children at all times. Kids can drown in seconds and in silence Never swim alone or in unsupervised locations. 5 Page 5 Grilled Veggie & Steak Salad with Herb Butter Sauce Simplerootswellness.com Serves: 4 INGREDIENTS 1 summer squash 4 ears sweet corn PREP TIME: 10 MINS COOK TIME: 30 MINS TOTAL TIME: 40 MINS 3 cups brussels sprouts, thinly sliced 3 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced 2 cups green beans 2 Tbsp olive oil 2 steaks (of choice) Salt & pepper, to taste Sauce 6 Tbsp butter 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar 1 Tbsp dried sage 1 tsp dried thyme 1 tsp dried oregano ½ tsp dried basil INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Slice summer squash into ½ inch thick slices. 3. Husk the sweet corn and thinly slice the brussel sprouts. Set aside. 4. Meanwhile peel and dice sweet potatoes and cut green beans. 5. In a bowl add sweet potatoes, green beans, olive oil and salt & pepper. 6. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until tender. 7. Meanwhile salt & pepper the veggies and drizzle place on the grill with the steaks. 8. Cook until tender. 9. While the veggies are being roasted and grilled make herbed butter sauce by melting 6 tablespoons of butter and add balsamic, sage, thyme, oregano and basil. Mix well. 10. To prep, cut corn off the cob and place all veggies on a plate with thinly sliced steak and drizzle with herbed butter sauce. 11. Enjoy!
