Fresh palatecleansing whites The Society s Exhibition Grüner Veltliner 2017 Deliciously pure grüner from Willi Bründlmayer s steep vineyards west of Vienna. Lime, white peach and blossom on the nose with fresh acidity, pink grapefruit and a delightful minerality and whitepepper spice on the palate. A perfect aperitif or the ideal partner for an asparagus and green-bean salad. Drink now to % ref EX-AA bottle 167 dozen The Society s Exhibition Albariño, Rías Baixas was an outstanding year on Spain s Atlantic coast where unusually low rainfall produced rich and expressive wines. This is summer in a bottle with flavours of nectarine and lime alongside its plush texture and richness which screams out for coastal Spanish cuisine like Polbo á Feira (fair-style octopus!). As with all great dry examples of the grape, this is packed full of rose-petal and lychee perfume, a full body and rich, sweet spice and quince on the palate. Dive into the South American spirit with a bowl of cazuela a traditional meat and potato stew or match its creamy richness with a mountain of Burrata cheese on crusty ciabatta. 13.5% ref EX-CE bottle 119 dozen The Society s Exhibition Tasmanian Chardonnay 2016 Tassie chardonnay has burst on to the scene in recent years and this example from Freycinet proves why! The fruit is slightly riper than the Chablis below, but there is still exceptional salinity, bright acidity, citrus and a fresh, almost salty tang. A serious and utterly captivating chardonnay, and one to enjoy with buttery prawns or grilled sea bass. Drink now to % ref EX-AU bottle 192 dozen The Society s Exhibition Chablis Premier Cru Montmains 2016 The Brocard family have held our Chablis warrant for a number of years because they consistently produce some of the most classic and delicious examples of this great wine. They avoid barrel ageing so as not to mask the beautiful white-flower, flint and mineral freshness that characterises this bright and delicate style. Try with scallop carpaccio or, for the adventurous, raw oysters for that salty tang! Yum. Pungent gooseberry, elderberry and green pepper on the nose with the mouthwatering acidity that makes Kiwi sauvignon one of the most loved wine styles on the planet. Some wines just don t need food get outside and enjoy this bright beauty in the last of the summer sunshine. Drink now to % ref EX-NZ bottle 138 dozen The Society s Exhibition Sancerre 2017 Despite being only a few miles from Pouilly-Fumé (see below), this Sancerre produced by Serge Laloue is riper, more fruit forward and packed full of wild gooseberry, braeburn apple and tart melon flavours. There is more freshness here in 2017 and a finer texture and all of the delicious fruit character you d expect from Loire sauvignon blanc. Serve with ceviche or a tomato salad. Drink now to % ref EX-LO bottle 186 dozen The Society s Exhibition Pouilly-Fumé 2015 A wonderfully restrained and elegant style of Loire sauvignon that has traded in the traditional pungent gooseberry for a grassy, blackcurrant-leaf nose and a deliciously saline texture with hints of juniper, lime zest and acacia blossom. This is a deliciously herbal style from Sophie Landrat-Guyollot that s blended from different sites and aged longer for that added complexity and body. Kanonkop are behind this rich, meaty South African megalith that s traditionally fermented in open concrete vessels for velvety fruit and soft tannins. Match its sultry smoky character and plum fruit with classic BBQ fodder you won t be disappointed. Drink now to % ref EX-SA bottle 126 dozen The Society s Exhibition Mendoza Malbec 2016 Susana Balbo is undoubtedly the Queen of Malbec, and she s on royal form in 2016 with this delightfully fresh red. Vibrant, deeply coloured, cherry-fruited malbec from high-altitude vineyards aged in French oak barrels. Big Argentine reds like this are just crying out for an equally substantial steak. Drink now to % ref EX-AR bottle 131 dozen The Society s Exhibition Colchagua Carmenère 2016 Cristobal Undurraga of Viña Koyle is the mastermind behind this elegant Chilean carmenère. He picks the grapes just as they hit full ripeness so the wine has incredible freshness, combining a heady perfume with bramble, blackberry and dark-cherry fruit alongside clove spice and herbal lift. Open this alongside rich chilli or beef empanadas. Drink now to % ref EX-CE bottle 143 dozen The Society s Exhibition Chianti Classico 2015 A delightful vintage for this Chianti standard bearer from experts Poggiopiano with oodles of bright sweet cherry fruit, a tarry savouriness and that captivating acidity that makes well-made Chianti so delicious. Sit, preferably in the sun, with a glass of this and a steaming bowl of pappardelle and rabbit ragu or even a simple margherita pizza and be immediately transported to the heart of Tuscany. Drink now to % ref EX-IT bottle 150 dozen The Society s Exhibition Victoria Shiraz 2014 Mount Langi Ghiran produce this spectacular Aussie shiraz for us using grapes from their vineyards nestling between two dramatic mountain ranges, the Great Dividing Range and the peaks of the Grampians National Park. The surprisingly cool climate that results produces exceptionally fine, elegant shiraz with vibrant blackcurrant and mulberry on the nose whilst maintaining those classic black-pepper spice flavours. Our Exhibition bottling, from Prophet s Rock, has a deep ruby colour and sports a tempting cherry-and-clove perfume. Its concentrated dark-berry and cherry flavours are held together beautifully with youthful firm tannins before finishing with a touch of cedar and spice. Enjoy with chicken wrapped in Parma ham. Drink now to % ref EX-NZ bottle 179 dozen The Society s Exhibition Rioja Reserva 2011 La Rioja Alta produce some of the finest and most traditional of Riojas, and the 2011 vintage is no exception no wonder it s one of our most popular Exhibition labels! The wine spends two years in cask before extensive bottle ageing resulting in a complex and mature wine that s smooth and savoury with juicy red fruit and cedar in abundance. Serve with rosemary-studded lamb. Drink now to % ref EX-SP bottle 186 dozen The Society s Exhibition Napa Valley Zinfandel 2015 Our amazing Napa Valley zin is produced exclusively for us by John Williams of Frog s Leap. But this isn t any regular zinfandel John makes deliciously elegant and unforced wines, and this bright-cherry fruited example is no exception, keeping the grape s distinctive sweet-and-sour bramble and mocha flavours in beautiful balance alongside the coconut, cedar and hay perfume. If you re a lover of traditional Rioja then definitely give this a try pulled pork burgers and mac n cheese are great matches, as is a classic roasted leg of lamb. Drink now to % ref EX-US bottle 192 dozen The Society s Exhibition Barolo 2014 Barolo is one of the world s greatest wines and this lives up to its well-earned reputation. Seductively floral nose packed with violets, cranberries and leather; flavours reminiscent of top-quality Burgundy but with added attack on the palate. Silvano Bolmida s Barolos are made to be approachable young but retain outstanding ageability. The grippy tannins and high acidity are tamed by a few hours in the decanter and some fresh carpaccio, as they would in Piedmont. Drink now to % ref EX-IT24501A 25 bottle 300 dozen NEW The Society s Exhibition Barbaresco 2015 A brand new wine for us from what is being touted as one of the best ever vintages in north-west Italy. This is a beautifully scented Barbaresco from the brilliant Rizzi winery showcasing classic bright acidity, cherry fruit and violets. Two-thirds of the nebbiolo comes from Nervo for its powerful bouquet and a third from Pajoré bringing incredible depth of flavour. 6 Beaujolais two ways The Society s Exhibition Juliénas 2013 Attention, Burgundy lovers! This is an outstanding example of mature Beaujolais that s taken on a darker and more savoury character more akin to pinot noir. The light colour is complemented by ripe blackberry and strawberry flavours as well as a touch of leather and spice, without losing that delightfully seductive and sappy Beaujolais texture. The ideal partner for duck with plum sauce. 13% ref EX-BJ bottle 119 dozen The Society s Exhibition Fleurie 2017 This is Fleurie at its most charming fabulous perfume and crunchy cranberry and cherry flavours on the palate was a difficult year in Beaujolais thanks to frequent hail storms, but the grapes that survived have produced beautifully bright, aromatic reds with incredible charm. Enjoy lightly chilled in the garden with a selection of cooked meats. 13% ref EX-BJ bottle 119 dozen Roaming the Rhône The Society s Exhibition Vacqueyras 2016 This dark, brooding, leathery and meaty syrah is proof that Vacqueyras is still one of the world s most affordable fine wines. This 2016 produced by Domaine le Clos des Cazaux is helped along by the weight and concentration provided by this excellent vintage with plum fruit and hints of raspberry and cherry amply backed up with pepper spice and hedgerow. Enjoy now to % ref EX-RH bottle 143 dozen The Society s Exhibition Châteauneufdu-Pape 2013 Through our Exhibition label we like to celebrate the world s greatest wines and here we have a Châteauneuf with a twist. Vignobles Mayard believe in purity of fruit and freshness and so this wine sees no oak; instead it s aged in large concrete eggs meaning the wine is permanently in motion, blending and gaining complexity throughout. The result is a beautifully integrated, fruit-forward style that celebrates the true red-fruit flavours of its star component grenache. Match its freshness and herby character with a garlic and thyme-packed cassoulet or ratatouille. Yum. Drink now to % ref EX-RH bottle 222 dozen NEW The Society s Exhibition Cairanne 2015 It s a pleasure to welcome the first vintage of Exhibition Cairanne since 2007 with this outstanding example from Domaine Delubac. 50:50 grenache and syrah aged in oak to help develop its rich bramble flavours alongside well-rounded tannins and spice-laden fruit is an outstanding Rhône vintage and, although young, this already offers incredible drinkability. Drink now to % ref EX-RH bottle 240 dozen The Society s Exhibition Hermitage Rouge 2014 Produced for us by arguably the greatest winemaker on the planet, Jean-Louis Chave (in fact, this is the only own-label wine he produces). Hermitage is the home of syrah, and this shows its epochal spice and weight in abundance. If dense and fruity is your thing then tackle this wine now; however, as with all great Hermitage, this will age beautifully and showcase just why Chave Hermitage is one of the world s finest wines. 7 Claret, glorious claret! The Society s Exhibition Haut-Médoc 2014 An outstanding wine from the masters of merlot, Château Beaumont, in the instantly appealing 2014 vintage that offers incredible value and great drinkability. Plenty of plummy merlot and blackcurrant cassis from the cabernet sauvignon play beautifully alongside leather and spice from the dash of petit verdot. Still fruit forward, this will age gracefully for a few years yet but is utterly irresistible now, especially alongside beef entrecôte or a leg of lamb. Drink now to % ref EX-CM bottle 167 dozen The Society s Exhibition Margaux 2015 Produced especially for you by second growth Brane-Cantenac, this quintessential Margaux with its bewitching aromas is just too good to miss was outstanding on the left bank and although still in its infancy this already shows the true essence of Margaux now violet perfume, generous and soft fruity texture and impeccable finesse. An aromatic lamb tagine will match its heady perfume perfectly. Drink now to % ref EX-CM bottle 276 dozen The Society s Exhibition Pauillac 2010 The pedigree is top notch the acclaimed Lafite-Rothschild stable and the wonderful 2010 vintage and it shines through in this elegant and traditionally styled claret that has been tucked away in our cellars until ready, ie now! It packs bold, mouthwatering dark-fruit alongside spiced blackcurrant, cedar and deliciously ripe, grippy tannins. One to try with traditional beef wellington. Definitely benefits from decanting. Ageing has concentrated not only the flavour but also the structure, giving an intensely sweet wine that is opulent without being cloying. Its powerful structure allows it to stand up to most puddings, including those incorporating chocolate. Serve lightly chilled. 20% ref EX-SH bottle 150 dozen The Society s Exhibition Sauternes 2015 The Dubourdieu family are synonymous with sweet wine and they ve been keeping us in fine Sauternes for decades. This unctuous, fruity and perfumed example shows plenty of sweetness, balanced by lovely mouthwatering acidity alongside classic quince and orange-rind flavours. Young and fresh and perfect alongside summer puddings but wouldn t shy away from sticky cheeses either.
