4 CASE STUDY: ENTERTAINMENT When Ash vs Evil Dead, the revival of the 80 s comedic horror movies in TV form, was premiering on Starz, they wanted to commemorate the launch with something unique and bloody. During the collaborative design process, we experimented with unique painting processes to make the bottle look extra gory and bloody. The final product was Bruce Campbell s face deep etched into a bottle of Cabernet and painted bright red with deep crimson paint rolled on with a rag to give extra texture to the design. We replaced the capsule with one that was bright red to match the custom paint job. After producing 600 of these bottles, we were instructed by the distributor to ship them to their fulfillment house to be paired with a custom made wood box, a chainsaw wine topper, and a booklet with highlights from the show. After the fulfillment house put together the gift sets, they realized that they were unable to ship the sets because they did not have the appropriate alcohol licenses. A+ Wine Designs to the rescue! We overnighted UPS labels on our account that is tied to all our alcohol licenses, which allowed the fulfillment house to ship the gift sets on time, ahead of the premiere. Lesson learned with our customer: Make sure your fulfillment house can ship alcohol or have A+ Wine Designs do your fulfillment for you. 4

11 CASE STUDY: BRRRR! FROZEN! Sometimes there are circumstances beyond our control and we just have to deal with it the best we can. The take away in this circumstance is that we stand behind our product. When things don t go right, we re proactive to find the best solution. In this instance a customer ordered three cases of custom etched wine bottles along with matching engraved wood boxes. All the wine gift boxes were dropped shipped to individual recipients on the custom s holiday gift list. The customer was in Colorado along with the majority of the shipments. Little did we expect the Polar Vortex playing some freezing games. Elsa might be letting go, but Old Man Winter certainly put on a nasty freeze. It got so cold that UPS left a truck unloaded out in the cold overnight. The temperature plummeted to -32. The freezing point of wine is around 23 degrees. In over 20 years of business we had not had more than a handful of bottles freeze. Now with most of the drop ship packages all on the same truck we had 30 wine-cicles in transit. When the bottles thawed it was not a pretty site as wine leaked all over. Fortunately we use all the tools and added insurance provided by UPS, so we received an alert that the packages were damaged and had all been discarded. We were able to notify the client before they knew that anything was amiss, which allowed them to notify their client. We immediately put a rush order into production to replace all the bottles that were damaged. We then expedited shipping on all broken bottles such that they arrived before the originals were even supposed to arrive! The customer was pleased that we quickly addressed the issue and provided prompt replacement at no cost. A+ Wine Designs always stands behind our work. 11

18 CASE STUDY: GRAND OPENINGS The party starts where the decorated bottles are found! Nordstrom Rack needed an innovative way to celebrate the grand opening of several new stores. Working with an ASI distributor, we brainstormed and came up with labeled mini sparkling wine bottles (187ml) and mini San Pelligrino sparkling water bottles (250ml) accented with matching colored straws as the perfect way to celebrate and stay within a modest per-unit budget. The labels were lovingly crafted. We die-cut the design to match the artwork to give it a nice fun accent around the bubbly curves of the design. Additionally, the labels needed to not only look great, but be rugged enough to withstand a dip in chilly ice water and look absolutely fabulous for serving. Try that with paper labels... Not! To top this project off, we seamlessly orchestrated the logistic challenge presented. Each location got about 500 bottles for the opening celebration. On a very tight schedule we produced about ten thousand bottles overall. With shipments to twenty different locations, we successfully coordinated the unique material handling and storage needs of sixteen different caterers at the receiving end. Like a symphony playing off the same music, all locations received delivery early or on-time. Let the party begin!
