4 AUCTION RULES 1. Your paddle number is registered in your name. Use it when bidding on Silent and Live Auction items. 2. Payment for purchases may be made immediately following the item s sale, or the amount owed may be accumulated for payment at one time later in the evening. Payment in full must be made the evening of the auction. Cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, and Amex are accepted. 3. All sales are final and there will be no exchange or refunds. Items are not to be returned to Donors for exchange or refund, unless otherwise noted in Auction publications. 4. All items must be removed the evening of the Auction. Items may be picked up at the Checkout station by presenting a paid receipt from the cashier. 5. SILENT AUCTION 1. All silent auction items, descriptions, and bid sheets are on display on the Great Lawn. The items are grouped on numbered tables. Bidding begins at noon and the tables will be closed in order at the times indicated. 2. Bids should be written on the Bid Sheet located next to each item. Note that each item has a starting bid and a minimum allowable bid increment. 3. Use your paddle number and signature to identify your bid. The closing time for each lot will be announced. 18 14. FUND A NEED HOWELL MOUNTAIN SCHOOL OUTDOOR EDUCATION Howell Mountain School aspires to increase outdoor education opportunities for our students. The staff, parents and students have worked diligently to find new and exciting ways to inspire learning, with one area being the development of a school garden. We have had a great start to the program with planning, planting, tending, and harvesting but we are ready to expand and hopefully grow enough food to use in our lunch program at the school. Another initiative, proposed by our students, is to build a coup and raise chickens. This provides the opportunity to learn about life cycles, the raising and care of livestock, and it also teaches the elements of running a small business. One of the greatest resources we have access to is the vast Pacific Ocean coastline; a place not all of our students have visited. From the Marine Mammal Center in Marin to the tide pools of Mendocino, our students stand to learn not only about the environment, but also about the part they play in keeping it safe. Under the guidance of a naturalist, the school is excited to plan an adventure that would help build school community and provide hands-on experiences. As we explore ways to increase the integration of our daily curriculum with the great outdoors, we find that our main stumbling block is funding. Whether the resources are near to us or far away, the costs of transportation, housing, and hiring experts are, in many cases, prohibitive. With the help of generous people like you, who support our annual Fund-a-Need, we hope to expand the opportunities and experiences available to the students at Howell Mountain School!
