Member of the VPD Situated in the village of Oberhausen between the villages of Niederhausen and Schlossböckelheim in the rocky landscape of the Middle Nahe / Germany. Winemaker: Helmut Dönnhoff (vintage 1949) Cornelius Dönnhoff (vintage 1980) History: Weingut Hermann Dönnhoff can look back on a more than 200-year history. The winery is located in the Mittleren Nahe region. This rural, extremely charming valley between Bad Kreuznach and Schloßböckelheim, with its grandiose steep slopes, has definitively shaped the reputation of the Nahe as a wine growing region. Thanks to the vulcanic weathered soil of black-red porphyr, powerful Rieslings with a mineral elegance that have been among the great German wines from the time immemorial ripe here. Today Dönnhoff s wines are esteemed especially for their elegance and profound taste and also for their clear expression of the terroir of the various vineyards. 3 OUR VINYARDS Schloßböckelheimer Felsenberg A very old and famous site, splendidly located on a steep southern slope. The vines grow under extreme conditions here in pure, weathered volcanic porphyry soil. The stony, quickly warmed soil yields Riesling wines with a racy fruitiness and mineral acidity very typical for this location. These wines enjoy worldwide renown for their particular flinty note. In the heart of this fantastic vineyard stands our Felsentürmchen (small rock tower). The most mineral of the Felsenberg grapes ripen here. They are harvested selectively and their wines bear the symbol of the Felsentürmchen. Oberhäuser Leistenberg The Leistenberg vineyard lies in a small side valley of the Nahe, right next to Oberhausen. The name Leistenberg probably derives from the soils and the terraced slopes, since leisten in German means perform or achieve and this site provides the ideal conditions to do just that. The warm soils of this steep slope are almost exclusively made up of decomposed grey clay slate. Since the hill faces the south-east, the morning sun dries the vines very early on in the day and the grapes remain healthy. The afternoon sun is not so strong, allowing a long ripening period without the wines attaining an excessively high alcohol content. A perfect vineyard for wonderful Kabinett wines with high minerality and of subtle elegance. With the lowest must weight, a Kabinett wine is the first of six specially designated superior quality wines (Prädikatsweine). Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle For over 100 years, the Hermannshöhle has been rated the best site of the Nahe and is therefore the benchmark by which all other vineyards in the region are judged. This magnificent site takes its name from a small mine (Höhle actually means cave ) in the middle of the hillside. Hermann comes from Hermes, the Greek guardian of messengers and travelers and is probably an indication of an ancient place of worship. This purely south-facing site lies m above sea level. The soils are mostly blackish grey slate mixed with extrusive igneous rock, porphyry and limestone. Magnificent wines grow here, dry Grosse Gewächse ( great growth or Grand Cru ) and noble sweet superior quality wines.

4 OUR VINYARDS Oberhäuser Brücke *MONOPOL* - Exclusively owned by the Hermann Dönnhoff Wine Estate - The historic Luitpoldbrücke (Luitpold Bridge), built under former Bavarian administration, crosses the River Nahe right next to the village of Oberhausen. Opposite this bridge, there is a small vineyard parcel with a special microclimate. Here, the temperature is regulated by the nearby river. The absolute protection afforded the vines always gives rise to early flowering, which allows a long growing season for the late-ripening Riesling grape. The special soil formation, consisting of grey slate bedrock covered by a layer of loess loam, ensures the vines are adequately supplied with water even during years of drought. Riesling wines of great personality with structure and essence are grown here, which, characterised by the ancient bedrock, display a radiant elegance. Owing to the sheltered valley location, magnificent Eisweine (very sweet superior quality wines made from frozen grapes) can be harvested most years. These special conditions are the reason why this vineyard parcel, though comprising only 1.1 ha, is protected and registered as one of the smallest terroirs on the Nahe. Norheimer Dellchen Steep cliffs of extrusive igneous rock (phorphyry and melaphyr) rise directly from the banks of the River Nahe between Norheim and Niederhausen. In between these cliffs there are small hollows, known in local dialect as Dellchen. Here, the slate soils are mixed with the stony precipitate sedimentary rock of the adjacent volcanic cliffs. The extremely steep, perfectly south-facing slope is terraced by dry stone walls. Protected by the surrounding cliffs, the Riesling vines reach very high levels of grape ripeness. The wines displaying the characteristics of this particular terroir to a greater extent have enormous ripening potential. Norheimer Kirschheck The oldest recorded vineyards of the Nahe are located in this part of Norheim. Kirsche means cherry, so the old name of the site suggests that wild cherries grew among the vineyards. The soils of this purely south-facing site are composed largely of grey slate, mixed with sandstone. Riesling wines produced here are full-bodied and at the same time display very spicy, delicately fruity characteristics.

5 OUR VINYARDS Kreuznacher Kahlenberg A famous top vineyard site whose history goes back a long way. The name Kahlenberg was mentioned as early as Here, the Riesling vines grow in a soil of gravelly loam. It gives their wines a much described spicy character. The Kahlenberg has a special talent for yielding dry wines due to the full body and harmonious acidity of the wines growing here. Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl The Kahlenberg s neighbouring vineyard. The warm loess loam of the Krötenpfuhl is rich in small pebbles (quartzite) and these, along with the fact that this is a south-facing site, cause the soil to warm up very quickly. The grapes ripen early and retain a feisty acidity. These produce particularly fine-fruity, vivacious Riesling wines. Roxheimer Höllenpfad Famous, steeply sloping vineyard in a small side valley of the middle section of the Nahe River. The ancient name "Höllenpfad" ("path to hell" in English) describes a special vineyard with the word "hell" referring to the steep slope and mostly likely also to the colour of the red sand stone that shapes this hill in such an extraordinary way. Due to the red colour of the soil the landscape is frequently bathed in the warm light of evening sun. However, the name "hell" may also originate from an expression used by the vintners when talking about their hard word on the steep slopes. The weathered warm sand stone of the Rotliegend rock strata lends the wines their inimitable character. The grapes that grow here are always very small and have a particularly intense, delicate aroma; the wines appear elegant with a very piquant mineral fruitiness and an excellent aging potential.
