Soil analysis has revealed six soil types, with different gravel density and qualities, and so these six parcels are cultivated separately.

This estate is a small gem: prior to the acquisition of the estate by Philippe and Chantal Miecaze in 2007, the 6 hectares (15 acres) of vines had been carefully tended for its grand vin by the neighbouring estate, classified Grand Cru of Graves, Domaine de Chevalier. THE VINEYARD was first planted when a promising gravel-sand outcrop was discovered close to the lake, in the late 19 th century. This gravel is the basis of all the finest wines of Pessac Léognan, an appellation which was recognised in 1987 and contains all of the Grands Crus Classés of the greater Graves region. Today s vineyard plantings date from 1989, with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, and very high vine densities of 10,000 vines per hectare (the appellation allows much lower). Soil analysis has revealed six soil types, with different gravel density and qualities, and so these six parcels are cultivated separately. The grapes are also vinified separately in order to fully express the qualities of each particular parcel. THE IMAGE for the label, and now the motif of Château Léognan, was originally taken from the design of the floor tiles in the restored Chapel, next to the Château. The image shows two birds drinking at the chalice, symbolising the resurrection of Christ, and of rebirth. It embodies the idea of renaissance, alluding also to the legend of the phoenix rising from the ashes INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION Philippe s aim is to respect the fruit and balance, and to produce a wine of refinement and elegance. Every vintage since 2007, has won gold medals and recognition from publications such as Decanter, the Revue des Vins de France (the top French wine magazine), and Sommelier International. Although new as a wine estate, the Château itself was built in Having restored it to its former glory, Philippe and Chantal are now fully dedicated to establishing their wine, Château Léognan, as one of the top wines of the Graves region, as fine as any of its cru classé neighbours.
