Best from 2003 through JS (Issue: Oct 31, 2000) 50& Modern, big and well-crafted red. Plenty of sweet berry, plum and cherry aromas. Full-bodied, with lovely silky tannins and a fruity, vanilla aftertaste. Fruit and new toasted oak galore. A joint effort from these two wineries. Best from 2000 through JS (Issue: Nov 30, 1999)

50&50 2005 93/100 A rush of jammy dark berries is the first sensation that emerges from the 2005 50&50 a blend of Merlot and sangiovese made in partnership with Avignonesi.

4 50& /100 A rush of jammy dark berries is the first sensation that emerges from the &50 a blend of Merlot and sangiovese made in partnership with Avignonesi. The 50&50 shows a bit more accessibility and sheer plumpness than the decidedly structured Solare. New leather, spices, chocolate, chocolate, espresso and toasted French oak add complexity to this juicy, full-throttle red. Anticipated maturity: (Issue Nov 2010) Vin Santo di Montepulciano & The & 50 is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot made in partnership with Avignonesi in Montepulciano. It exhibits an opaque ruby color, along with generous notes of blueberries, vanilla, spices and earthiness. Though medium in body, it is ample and generous on the palate, where it reveals superb concentration, and a sumptuous, luxurious personality, with outstanding length and a sweet note of menthol on the finish. This outstanding wine will benefit from another two to three years in bottle after which it should drink well for a decade. Anticipated maturity: Antonio Galloni (Issue: Jun 2007, #171) 50& The & 50 is a trifle less powerful and voluptuous than the full-blown 1999 version, the best since the debut vintage of 1988, but it is still an excellent wine, a rich ruby in color, lavishly spicy and sweet, supple and sensual in texture, elegant and sustained on the close. The lingering presence of the oak, however, indicates that there is a bit less concentration than in 1999, a sensation which is reinforced on the finish, slightly less ample and weighty. 5 50& /100 The joint project of Capannelle and Avignonesi, the & 50 (50% Sangiovese from the Capannelle vineyard and 50% Merlot from the Avignonesi vineyard) may be expensive, but the results are stunning. The opaque purple color is followed by a sweet perfume of espresso, blackberries, black currants, high quality toasty oak, and mocha. This medium to full-bodied, dense, opulently-textured blend possesses copious extract, a boatload of tannin, and a huge finish. For its size and stature, everything is in balance, it just needs time to develop secondary nuances. Anticipated maturity: This is a formidable offering for patient connoisseurs. Robert Parker (Issue: Dec 2002, #144) 50& The joint effort between Capannelle and Avignonesi, called & 50, is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese from Capannelle and Merlot from Avignonesi s vineyard. It is only sold as a future, but I was told by the importer that there are about 25 cases available for the USA. A seriously-endowed, dense ruby/purple-colored effort with plenty of new oak, it is somewhat internationally-styled, with loads of extract, tannin, and richness. Wines such as this can be found at lower prices, but they will not have the names Capannelle and Avignonesi. Anticipated maturity: Robert Parker (Issue: Oct 2001, #137) 50& The & 50 is outstanding. The price may be painful, but that is a problem with most limited production wines of this quality. It offers sweet, rich, jammy black-cherry fruit intermixed with aromas of white chocolate, mocha, and vanillin. Medium to full-bodied, dense, smoky, and ostentatious, this lush, fat, exuberantly fleshy wine is delicious to drink, and should continue to hold for 8-9 years. The wine imparts a sense of wholeness and fullness thanks to its firm tannins and smoky aftertaste. Pair it with roast pork with wild rice and mushroom cream sauce. 50& A perfect collaboration between two celebrated Tuscan estates, this plush wine is stacked tall with pretty aromas of cola, sweet spice, root beer, clove, toast and forest fruit. There s harmony and elegance here and the wine takes on marvelous shape in the mouth where it builds in intensity. M.L. (Issue: Apr 2008) 50& Careful winemaking has saved this blend from the hot vintage, preserving its vibrant aromas of red fruit, lavender flower, blueberry and almond.
