The most feminine of the Medoc wines
Rauzan Gassies vineyards Rauzan Gassies overview
History Terroir Label Packaging Tasting Key strengths Technical data
The story The origins of the Noble House Gassies Médoc date back to medieval times. Mr. de Rauzan acquired the lordship and vineyards in the beginning of the reign of Louis XIV. Thanks to its winemaker expertise, in only thirty years, he will make his cru the first second wines of the parish of Margaux. The heirs of Pierre de Rauzan had maintained the work of the founder untill the Revolution where the field was split into two: Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla (the cellars of these two castles still have a wall in common). Having during a long time been considered the second wines of the Margaux district, the two areas are classified Gironde Grands Crus Second during the 1855 classification. Already owner of Château Bel Orme Tronquoy Lalande and Chateau Croizet-Bages, 5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, Paul Quié, wine broker, bought Château Rauzan-Gassies in Since this date, the property has remained in the family Quié, as the other two areas. Since 2004, Rauzan-Gassies is directed by Jean -Philippe Quié and her twin sister Anne Françoise with the ambition to produce excellent wines, ripe and fleshy with a good vineyard management and rigorous selections. In 2009, the family Quié entrusted exclusively to the Grands Vins de Gironde the trade of their new Gassies SECOND WINE (in replacement of the Chevalier de Rauzan- Gassies).
Margaux appellation The Margaux vineyard covers at about 25 kilometers north of Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Gironde. Margaux is the largest of the 6 appellations of the Medoc and is one that has the largest number of Grands Crus (21). Margaus is recognized as beeing a prestigious appellation, different by its size, exceptional as very fruitful, revealing its most beautiful strengths taking age, feminine and voluptuous. Its soil is made of gravel and pebbles in a sandy-clay base. With a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon and a high amount of Merlot, Margaux wines are generous, fruity, subtle, elegant and velvety with an extraordinary range of flavors. The magic of time flowing reveals the Margaux exceptional taste.
Label Gassies = second part of the castle name, which is easily understood as the second wine of Rauzan-Gassies. A brand easy to pronounce all around the world. A classical, elegant and Renaissance style very representative of France. A good impact of the brand and the appellation on the label. The initials RG into the Medallion on the top of the label reflects the wine affiliation at Rauzan- Gassies. The bright and harmonious colors evoke an elegant and refine wine, rather feminine.
Packaging Decorated boxe of 6 lying bottles Palette = 90 boxes of 6 bottles 540 bottles
Tasting This wine has a bright, shiny and purple robe and exhales on nose aromas of flowers, spices and black fruits. In the mouth it is supple and elegant. " Nice fruity nose, cherry, tender in mouth, small fine tannins, elegant, fine, but with good length. French wine specialist of the paper Le point, sept are wines that do not have the opulence of the past two years, but are great wines, charming, and wealthy, not on power but on personality and complexity. Source : Eric Boissenot ( winemaker consultant for Rauzan- Gassies ) History of a vintage / March 2012.
Ratings of Rauzan-Gassies Vintage 2011 Robert Parker : 83 Wine Spectator : 88 Jancis Robinson : 14,5 Vintage 2012 Robert Parker : 88 Wine Spectator : 87 Jancis Robinson : 16,5
The differences between the 2 wines of Rauzan-Gassies Château Rauzan-Gassies The oldest vines months in french oak barrels - 50 % of new barrels Gassies The youngest vines 12 months in french oak barrels - 50 % of 1 year old barrels and 50% of 2 years old barrels. 35 % of Press wine 12 % of Press wine More powerful, rich and complex, it deserves to wait a little longer before serving. A wine more fresh, modern, and easier to drink although it remains a silky power. More supple and fruity, it will appeal to lovers in search of immediate pleasure.
Strengths A product which can be offered in exclusivity, which is rare on a Margaux appellation. An elegant packaging, melting classicism and femininity with the reassuring exceptional terroir underlined (Margaux signature). An international easy to pronounce brand. Not a simple second wine, a real brand with his own signature, blended with a constancy in its quality and taste. (The castle even developing a third or even a fourth wine depending on the year regarding its high quality levels standards). A good price - quality ratio, in line with the competition The story of a brother and his twin sister at the head of a family vineyard (3rd generation) in search of excellence.
GVG EXCLUSIVITY GASSIES, Rauzan-Gassies Margaux Second wine of Second Grand Cru classified in 1855 Rauzan-Gassies. Gassies, one of the most feminine of the Medoc wines stands out by its elegance, its powerful aroma combined with silky tannins and refined class. History The origins of the Noble House Gassies Médoc date back to medieval times. During the Revolution the field was split into two: Rauzan-Gassies and Rauzan-Ségla. Paul Quié, a wine broker son of the director of Maison Sénéclauze, bought Château Rauzan-Gassies in Since 2004, Rauzan-Gassies is directed by Jean -Philippe Quié and her twin sister Anne Françoise with the ambition to produce excellent wines, ripe and fleshy with a good vineyard management and rigorous selections. Terroir & vineyard The vineyard of 25 hectares, gathers the main Bordeaux grape varieties, mean age 35 years. Quié family brings special attention to the proper management of its vineyards: tillage or cover crops, rational management of inputs, double Guyot size with window, secondary shoots and manual repositioning of clusters, stripping a front veraison and both sides manually before harvest, manual removal of verjuice in July and August. During the harvest, an initial screening is done manually on foot followed by a second mechanical and manual sorting at the reception at the Castle. Grapes variety 65% Merlot 31% Cabernet Sauvignon 4% Cabernet Franc Gassies consists essentially of young vines. Tasting This wine is a vivid, brilliant crimson colour with floral, spice and dark berry aromas, and is smooth and elegant on the palate. Service / Pairings Serve at room temperature (18 C) with game, red meat and roast fish. Alcohol content : 13,5 C Production volumes : to bottles Packaging : Decorated boxes x 6 bottles stored flat Palette = 90 boxes / 540 bottles Location GPS : 45 2'11" Nord '20" Ouest Owners : Famille Quié, since Gassies Février 2016 Winemaking & Maturing Vinification takes place in several stages: a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 48 hours, alcoholic fermentation and maceration in stainless steel vats, then malolactic fermentation in barrels and vats. Finally, the wine is matured in oak barrels for 12 months, lot par lot, prior to the final blending. Grands Vins de Gironde (Groupe GVG) 2 Chemin du Rivet, Saint-Loubès France +33 (5) gvg@gvg.fr -
