Before or after exploring the King Tut exhibition with your students, our experienced staff and volunteers will guide your students through the AGO collection to discover how power and beliefs are universal and timeless. Compare the power of the pharaohs and the beliefs of ancient Egypt to the power relationships and belief systems of the various cultures represented in our collection. Concepts explored: Power Compare how power in ancient Egypt was communicated through art to how power relationships are communicated in other cultures since the age of the pharaohs. Beliefs Compare world views, social structures, and our relationship to the environment as explored by artists from diverse cultures. Dedicated to providing a student-centred learning experience, we use questioning strategies based on the critical analysis process to move students from their initial reaction to an informed point of view. Students engage in age-appropriate interactive activities such as interpretation games, sketching activities, movement and drama activities, and use tactile materials to respond to works of art. Guided Gallery Visits are cross-curricular and cross-collection. Students will explore works of art from a variety of collection areas such as African, Canadian, Contemporary, and European. If there is a specific collection area you would like your students to visit as part of the larger program, please specify at the time of booking. 6 Planning Your Visit Expect it to be busy and plan accordingly. King Tut has drawn record crowds at his other stops. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time between your expected arrival time and the entry time to King Tut. We recommend reserving your King Tut time no less than 30 minutes after your expected arrival time your students will likely need a washroom break after the bus, and all coats, backpacks and large purses will have to be checked. Our experience has been that this process will take at least fifteen minutes for the average group. Because our space is limited, it may be difficult if not impossible to address your students as a single group once you are inside the building. The best time to communicate with them is in the classroom before you come or on the bus. How Time-Ticketing Works. Due to the anticipated popularity of the exhibit, entry will be available on a timeticketed basis: what this means is that your group has a 30-minute window in which to enter the exhibit. For example, if you have made a reservation for 10:30 AM, your group will be entering the exhibit between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, but you must be lined up and ready to go in at 10:30. Once you have entered, you are welcome to stay in the exhibit as long as you like; the average viewing time at other venues has been between 60 and 90 minutes. There is no re-entry to the exhibit, and there are no washrooms located in the Tut exhibit hall. Group Supervision. For safety and security reasons, a minimum number of adult supervisors are required to accompany each school group. Groups arriving without the required supervisor-to-student ratio may be denied entry. Teachers and adult supervisors are required to stay with their groups for the duration of their visit and are responsible for managing their students behaviour. Supervision is especially crucial for guided gallery visits, where classes may be subdivided into smaller study groups. See the final page of this document for behaviour guidelines within the King Tut exhibit. Adult Supervisor-to-Student Ratio Grade Level JK Ratio 1:5 1:8 1:10 1:15 Coat Check and Lunch Space. Space will be extremely limited during the King Tut exhibition. We are renovating our coat check area and adding additional bag lunch space just for King Tut; even so we can only offer space for bag lunches to groups between grades 3 and 6 who are booking full-day options, and if you meet that criteria you MUST reserve lunch space at the time of booking. Coat check space is also very limited. We have no room for backpacks and oversize purses, and these items are not permitted inside the gallery. Please leave them at school or on the bus. Groups who have selected the half-day option in the morning MUST be prepared to claim all coats and bags by 12:30 pm to make room for incoming afternoon groups.

8 Guidelines and Expectations Once inside the museum please ensure that each chaperone has a ticket for themselves, and one for each student in their group. There should be minimum of one chaperone per 10 students (1:15 for high school); we will not admit students unless their chaperones are present. When you arrive at the exhibition entrance each chaperone will need to hand the tickets for their group to the staff member who will scan these for entry. It is very important that chaperones stay with their children at all times, and ensure that their group is sticking to the rules outlined below. 1) Always stay with your group leader as you go from one gallery to another. If you get separated from your group leader at any time go to the nearest member of staff and we will find your group as soon as possible. 2) Always walk, never run or roll around in the galleries. If you want to sit down please use the benches provided. 3) Please use your quiet voices, and be respectful to the other guests in the galleries. 4) The artifacts are real - over 3000 years old! They are very delicate, so please do not touch them, or the glass cases protecting them. 5) While you are in the galleries, please remember that you cannot eat, drink, chew gum, take photographs, use mobile phones or other electronic audio visual devices. 6) If undertaking project work in the galleries please use pencils, ink pens are not permitted inside the exhibition. We do not permit sketching in the galleries. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. We hope that you and your group will have a memorable and enjoyable trip.
