Chapter Program WTW 5 Purpose and Expectations The primary purpose of the Wine To Water Chapter Program is to promote awareness and involvement in the mission of Wine To Water. Each Wine To Water chapter is expected to: -Support Wine To Water and assist the organization in achieving its mission. -Promote a positive image of Wine To Water in a manner that encourages sincerity and acceptance of supporters from every walk of life. -Maintain regular communications with the Wine To Water office, providing information on any chapter events, programs or partnerships. Approval Process In order to be admitted into the Wine To Water chapter program, we require that applicants participate in a 2 phase process. This allows us to build a relationship with the chapter applicant and gives the applicant a chance to show their passion and investment in the mission of Wine To Water. The approval process is not time sensative. However, we ask that you stay committed and willing to work hard if you indeed choose to begin the approval process. Upon completion and approval of your Chapter Application, located on winetowater.org/chapter-program, the following 2 requirements must be completed. 1. Hold a successful event during the week of World Water Day (March 22). - More on page 8 2. Attend 1 Wine To Water volunteer service trip. - More on pages If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Wine To Water Chapter Coordinator, Josh Elliott, at: josh@winetowater.org
Chapter Program WTW 6 Once Approved Upon completion of the two requirements, your chapter will be recognized as an offical Wine To Water Chapter on the Wine To Water website. Your Chapter will also receive: - Priority on upcoming volunteer service trips. - A custom chapter fundraising page. - Yearly invitations to attend WTW training and meet with staff. - Access to WTW promo materials and online resources. Retaining Chapter Status The below will help your chapter build relationships within your chapter and with your surrounding community. Wine To Water s goal is to build sustainable relationships with our supporters, donors, and partner organzations around the world. This allows us to have the most efficient and effective impact as possible. 1. Hold an annual Wine To Water event during the week of World Water Day (March 22). - Wine To Water will provide ample event managment support through promotional materials and staff guidance. 2. Reach your chapter s yearly fundraising goal. - The fundraising goal will be determined by Wine To Water. Wine To Water will provide ample fundraising support through promotional materials and staff guidance. Chapter donations can be easily collected and tracked through your chapter s donation page. 3. Attend one Wine To Water service trip every other year (especially chapter leaders). - Our unique international volunteer service trips give you a once in a lifetime chance to learn more about clean water solutions and work alongside nationals at every project.
Chapter Program WTW 7 Chapter Formation Networking & Membership We recommend that you visit your local chamber of commerce as soon as you decide to start a Wine To Water city chapter. This can be a quick way to network with active community members who are interested in service. Seek out chapter members who are invested in the mission of Wine To Water. Finding a group of committed core members will greatly help in chapter success. Passionate members who have the availability to help when needed, are invested in chapter goals, and enthusiastic about the mission of Wine To Water will ultimatley make your chapter successful. Social media is also a great way to network and spread the word about starting a chapter. Dont be afraid to tell people what you are trying to do. You will be surprised at how many people are willing to help when you take that first step. Chapter Leadership Chapter leaders are a very valuable peice of each city chapter. Every chapter is different, however deciding on each chapter leader s role and responsibilities will help in the selection process. Wine To Water does not have a set number of leadership positions that each chapter must have. However, as your chapter grows, you may need to create and call up new leaders. It s important to select leaders who bring something different to the table. Their interests should vary in areas such as promotion, event planning, and organizational skills. Benefits may include: -Expand your professional network. -Share chapter responsibilities. -Guidance and feedback on chapter initiatives. *Holding a successful World Water Day event during the week of March 22 can quickly increase your pool of potential leaders. It will provide a great opportunity to grow membership as well. More on page 8.
Chapter Program WTW 8 World Water Day Event What is World Water Day? World Water Day is an internationally recognized day (March 22) recognizing the world s water crisis. Nearly 800 million people lack access to clean water and another 2.5 billion lack access to adequate sanitation. What is the goal of a World Water Day event? Besides the lack of access to clean water, awareness is still the largest problem facing the water crisis. People, especially in the west, dont know about the countless people who suffer everyday. We ask that our chapters come together during this week and plan an event to spread the word about not only the need but how people can help. Getting Started? 1. Talk with the WTW Chapter Coordinator to learn more about how Wine To Water events work. - Then begin to formulate some ideas on what type of event you can hold. 1. Submit an event proposal form online: winetowater.org/event-proposal-form -A Wine To Water staff will review and contact you with approval or if there needs to be any changes made. 3. Upon approval, you will tasked with following through with your event. -Communication with Wine To Water Staff is very important. Any challenges, changes, or questions should be directed to the Event Coordinator. -You will be held accountable to the original goals and timeline that you set up. Organiztion and followthrough is key. -Progress will be monitored by the Event Coordinator. Potential ideas: 1. Bar/Restaurant Fundraiser 2. 5K run 3. Just One Shift Event 4. Show the Wine To Water documentary
Chapter Program WTW 9 Volunteer Service Trip As a Wine To Water Chapter, there are many ways to get involved in making an impact on the water crisis, but there is something special about going and seeing it first-hand. We want to invite your Chapter, and other interested students, to join us in the field. We are currently offering volunteer trips to 4 select countries around the world, which all offer a unique experience as you dive deep into the culture, work alongside nationals and provide clean water to a family or community in need. Wine To Water service trips offer a wide range of experience levels so you can get your feet wet (or dive right in!). For first-time service volunteers, we recommend serving in the Dominican Republic, where you will make and distribute ceramic water filters to locals in need, or serving in Honduras, where you could experience a variety of different types of water projects. Those of you eager for a more daring adventure may prefer a trip to Uganda, experiencing the African safari, or to the Amazon (Colombia or Peru), working in remote jungle communities while you sleep in hammocks alongside the Amazon River each night. Cambodia offers a rich history and culture experience as you dig a well and a latrine for a family all in the same week. The Volunteer Guidebook is available for download on our website and has a step-by-step list of tasks to complete before taking a trip as well as other helpful resources. We can t wait for you and your Chapter to join us in the field. So contact me and let me know when and where you want to go, and I ll help you get all set-up. -Lisa Merritt, Volunteer Coordinator Lisa@winetowater.org winetowater.org/volunteer
