2 THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE MENU AT SHAN SHUI STEMS FROM OWNER ELLEN CHEW S CHILDHOOD YEARS. HER GRANDMOTHER, A SHANGHAINESE AND AVID COOK, MOVED TO SINGAPORE IN HER TEENS AND OFTEN FILLED THE FAMILY KITCHEN WITH WONDERFUL FOOD AROMAS. HER PASSION FOR COOKING LED TO HER SPENDING COUNTLESS HOURS LABOURING IN THE KITCHEN, EXPERIMENTING AND CONVERGING INGREDIENTS, SPICES AND RECIPES FROM BOTH COUNTRIES. HER COOKING STYLE WAS DEEPLY INFLUENCED BY TRADITIONAL CHINESE CUISINE AND THE ECLECTIC FLAVOURS OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN CUISINE.
