York as the City of Festivals will surpass itself this year, by welcoming one of the largest sporting events in the world:- the second stage of the Grand Départ du Tour de France will start from the Knavesmire opposite the hotel and travel through the medieval City. A cultural and sporting festival conbination not to be missed! We will also be celebrating our thirtieth anniversary as a luxury Hotel and Restaurant. Indeed, in the spring of 1984, saved from years of neglect and after four years of painstaking restoration, Middlethorpe Hall opened its doors as York s leading Hotel and Restaurant. I hope that you will be able to join us and celebrate in style our last three decades during a special evening in September with fine food, beautiful wines and great company. Wines will be chosen from wineries along the course, starting with a sparkling wine from Yorkshire and taking in eastern and southern France, plus of course the Champagne region.
