Historically once the capital of Britain, beautiful York will see a host of exciting events, with a Royal Visit by Her Majesty at the start of her Diamond Jubilee Year, a new Chocolate Festival and the launch of the Chocolate Attraction in the spring, the largest Railfest ever in June, plus the York Mystery Plays in August; throughout the year we will be celebrating York 800 (marking 800 years since the City was granted its Royal Charter by King John in 1212) many great reasons to (re)visit our City! In Celebration of York s Chocolate Festival Sophie Jewett, organiser of the York Chocolate Festival and owner of York Cocoa House will work closely with Paul Harrison, Middlethorpe s pastry chef to produce a unique and unusual chocolatebased afternoon tea. This green liqueur known as The Elixir of Long Life is flavoured with extracts from 132 plants; skiers amongst you may have enjoyed it in hot chocolate known as Green Chaud at French resorts.

Tel: Angela s review After a very busy time at work my husband and I were really looking forward to a day of pampering at Middlethorpe Spa. From the moment we were greeted and handed our fluffy robes and slippers we knew we d found the perfect place to relax. Steve was also relieved to find he wasn t the only man there and that spa days are definitely not just for ladies! The soothing spa area is like an oasis where time seems to stand still as you start to unwind. Beginning with a leisurely but refreshing dip in the surprisingly spacious pool, we then tried the authentic sauna followed by a quick detox in the steam room. It was really invigorating to then return to the pool and wonderfully relaxing to chill out in the huge whirlpool spa! A wonderful Decléor Classic Aromatic Facial was the first treatment of the day with its unique massage and oils to relax the entire face using the treasures of aromatherapy bliss! Following a delicious light lunch it was time for our massage treatments. A suitable Espa oil blend was carefully selected by my therapist, Kelly, who then proceeded to unwind months of deskbound tension from my achy shoulders with the sort of deep, therapeutic massage that is often lacking in other beauty spas. Blissed out, I could happily have slept on the couch all night! All too soon our experience was over, and it was a real wrench to leave our serene surroundings and return to the real world. In a setting, and with staff who are wonderfully attentive without being obtrusive, Middlethorpe Spa is the ideal place to escape the cares of the outside world for a while or indulge in luxurious, restorative treatments.
