In order to bring in line import prices with domestic wholesale prices a variable levy is imposed on all imports. No additional protection charge is applied. For beef and veal and bovine animals a variable levy is imposed, in addition to the import duty, when prices in the Community have fallen below a certain percentage of the guide price. 2. Imports of pigs and pigmeats are subject to a variable import levy. For certain products the levy will not go beyond the level of the bound duty. In addition, imports of pigs and pigmeats are subject to a sluicegate price system; a supple» mentary levy is imposed when import prices are abnormally low.
