2 PLEASE NOTE: ALL CANNING ENTRIES GO TO HOME ARTS FOODS DEPARTMENT ENTRIES Check-In: Wednesday, August 2 nd from 7:30 am 9:30 am Check-Out: Saturday, August 5 th after 10:00 pm and Sunday, August 6 th 8:00 am until Noon *Please pick up all ribbons and awards at the end of the Fair. Awards will not be mailed. SPECIAL RULES 1. There are many different kinds of cucumbers, summer squash, potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, peppers, rhubarb, peas, apples, grapes, etc. Enter the different kinds under the one lot number and they will be judged against each other, for instance, crookneck squash will be judged against the other crookneck squash and not against zucchini, blue potatoes will be judged against the other blue potatoes and not against the yellow ones. 2. Know what your entry is and label them correctly! The judges need to know what they are. For instance, if you don't label it a snap pea, it will be judged with the regular peas. PREPARING FRUITS FOR EXHIBITION 1. All fruits should be clean and free from spray residue and polish. 2. Peaches should have the fuzz removed. 3. Grapes may be trimmed and defective grapes removed. 4. Fruits and vegetables should be large enough to meet market requirements or standards and should be the maturity when it is best to eat them rather than exceptionally large. However, a size larger than ordinary for most things, with good quality, will be a winning entry. 5. All specimens must be of the same maturity, color, size, shape, and all specimens must be of the same variety unless the exhibit description specifically states otherwise. Multiple entries need to look as much alike as possible. 6. Specimens should be free from blemishes such as bruises, cuts, wind or insect damage, or from any other cause. 7. Root crops should be free from soil and fibrous roots with tops removed unless otherwise stated. 8. Cole crops should be neatly trimmed, outer leaves removed. The Fair reserves the right to clip stems etc. for display. *CLEAN YOUR ENTRY BEFORE YOU BRING IT TO THE FAIR!*
