2 Volume1,Issue3 October2015 Principal s Message Aloha Ho okele Ohana, Welcome back to school. I hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Break. The first 45 days of school in the first quarter flew by and with the holidays quickly approaching there still is much more we need to attend to. School Community Council Elections Per ACT 51 each school is required to hold elections for the various role groups on the School Community Council (SCC). The SCC will be comprised of 12 members. Membership shall include the principal, 3 teachers, 2 non-certificated staff members, 2 students, 2 parents, and 2 community members. There will also be one alternate member from each group except for the principal. Attached to this bulletin is a School Community Council Nomination Form. Please feel free to nominate someone you think would be an excellent parent or community representative. The deadline to submit the nomination form is Friday, October 23, Parent- Teacher Conferences The Parent-Teacher Conference dates are set for October 21 October 30. School will end at 1:05 pm during the conference window except Wednesday dismissals will remain at 12:40 pm. The school bus and A-Plus will also accommodate these changes. 3 Volume1,Issue3 October2015 Vice Principal s Corner Here are some reminders and updates for the month: Safety Please remember to prearrange with parents before taking any children other than your own home with you. You should have that parent s permission to have them walk or ride home with you. We encourage ALL to use our crosswalks and sidewalks for safety on campus. Crossing in unmarked areas or across driveways can put you or your child at risk from vehicles that may not see you. We are exploring options to have crosswalk assistance on our campus before and after school. Please show aloha and courtesy to fellow parents and community members while driving on or near our campus. As a reminder HPD has been ticketing drivers using cell phones while on the roads. Health/Attendance Uniforms While we want to encourage your child to come to school every day, there are times when your child should stay home. If your child is ill and has a fever or has a contagious condition, please keep him or her at home. We are planning to begin enforcement of our uniform policy. We delayed this due to problems with orders from our T-shirt Company. Should you have any questions or need to order more uniforms, you may contact The Custom Company T-Shirt at Please have your child wear a uniform shirt everyday. As we ask for this because of safety and identifying your child, we are not having weekly free dress days. There will be some occasions that your child will not need to wear a uniform, however unless it is designated as free dress day, your child should wear their Ho okele school shirt everyday. We are looking into providing loaners for those without uniforms. Use face paint instead of masks. Masks can obscure vision. 8. Stick to hypoallergic face paint. Test a small area of the skin before applying face paint to ensure there is no skin reaction. 9. Trick-or-treat in groups. 10. Check your child s treats before they eat it.
