The donation means a lot to fulfil students need of reading materials. The CKCC is very optimistic that future book donation from TAF is possible. In response to this optimistic hope, TAF has also promised to keep supporting if the center is still in need of more books. The CKCC is very grateful for the donation and cannot speak highly enough of the appreciation and sincere thanks toward the generous act of The Asia Foundation.

2 April-June 2015 Issue: 30 Jun 2015 Vol 2. Issue 4 CKCC Reading Club The CKCC not only brings source of knowledge closer to students but also encourages them to utilize the source. CKCC Reading Club has been established for almost one year. This club allows students to read at their own pace and encourages an open discussion. Every Saturday morning, club members gather to read short Korean story. The librarian as a monitor will lead the discussion and help club members overcome difficult vocabularies. Until now, the club has approximately 20 members. Reading Club is intended to develop and enhance student s interest in reading and naturally create a reading habit inside students. CKCC Taekwondo Training Program The CKCC Taekwondo Training program has been launched since the beginning of 2015, and has been training a total of 60 students. On Friday 5 th June 2015, Gup Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held to applause 51 students who passed the belt test, among which 16 students got yellow belt and 35 got green belt. Continuous effort has been put to encourage more students to enroll in this program by developing a free basic Taekwondo training course to RUPP students. Remarkable progress has been seen in a way that most students have paid attention to the training making them be able to change from white belt to yellow and green belt. The CKCC is proud to introduce Taekwondo training program to Cambodian students as part of its mission in bringing and promoting mutual cultural understanding between Korea and Cambodia. The Intensive Khmer Language for KOICA Volunteer On Tuesday 5 th May 2015, the Completion Ceremony of Intensive Khmer Language Program to Korean Volunteers was held at KOICA Cambodia office. The training was conducted at CKCC for two months, and this was the second batch training at the center. The CKCC has been providing intensive Khmer language training to Korean volunteer who come to do volunteer work through World Friends KOICA Volunteer Program. The program refuses to focus on grammar. Instead, it focuses on developing basic communication ability in the students. Toward that end, most of daily instruction is devoted to speaking. Since cultural understanding is also important, the program has developed curricular activities like shopping which allowed students to actually communicate with Cambodian people. In addition, by making use of teaching materials that stimulate the visual and audio senses, Khmer language instructors can teach Khmer in an authentic manner. Furthermore, the program constantly updates the teaching materials aiming to provide students the best possible language acquisition. As of May 2015, the CKCC has conducted Intensive Khmer Language Program for KOICA Volunteer for two terms, and the 3 rd term was begun on 8 June, 2015.

3 April-June 2015 Issue: 30 Jun 2015 Vol 2. Issue 4 General Korean Program (GKP) Bring together knowledge and Korean cultural understanding to Cambodian students To suit the need of Cambodian students looking for Korean language training, the CKCC is opening another new term of General Korean Program (GKP) on 6 th July This language training distinguishes itself as a leading Korean program through a well-developed curriculum implem-ented by qualified Korean and Khmer instructors in a comfortable learning environment which cannot be found anywhere else locally. The program has been offering three levels ranging from basic level to intermediate level. The training has incorporated modern teaching methods and materials to ensure the quality training. In each term, students are evaluated through quizzes, tests, and exams. Despite the fact that it s a non-degree program, students are required to sit for a rigorous exam before allowing to continue the next level; or otherwise, ending up repeating the course. Being strict and intensive, GKP has gained popularity and public trust in comparison with others Korean language training institutions. Students progress is CKCC s top priority. This is explained by the center s constant investment in creating a more favorable environment for self-study and research. Unlike regular readers, the students of CKCC are granted free access to library without having to pay membership fee. Students can also get access to internet inside the campus. The center not only encourages but also awards students who make outstanding performance. The center is planning to host a Certificate of Outstanding Awarding Ceremony to the students of GKP. Three outstanding students of each class will be awarded special tuition discount to honor their great achievements. This is part of positive reinforcement that the center has been doing to encourage students to continue upgrading their performance. 한국어속담 Korean Proverb 발없는말이천리간다. Bad news travels fast. 5 April-June 2015 Issue: 30 Jun 2015 Vol 2. Issue 4 Did You Know? In Korea, a bowl of noodle is more than just food. It is a symbol of long, happy, and healthy life. Why does noodle symbolize longevity? There are various theories but the most well-known idea has to do with the flour inside the long-shape noodle. In the old time, wheat flour, which was used to make noodle, was scarce and expensive. Normally, common folks couldn t afford to have noodle served at home. Also, making noodles was difficult and time consuming which required the effort of the whole villagers. Therefore, only social elites and noble men would serve noodle at large gathering to show off their wealth and power. Flour was precious and expensive ingredient. This led to the belief that eating noodle will bring health and longevity. This was also a reason why noodle is often served in happy occasions like wedding or 60 th birthday party. Unlike in the past, noodle now is available to everyone. It is a great substitute to a regular meal such as rice. Noodle is fast to make and can easily satisfy an empty stomach. Traditionally, noodle was normally served in a hot soup. However, with the invention of cooking method, Korean people have found numerous ways to enjoy noodle. Jajangmyeon (Noodles with Black Soybean Paste) Stir-fried vegetables like onion, radish, cucumber, meat or sea food, with black soybean paste serve over noodles. Bibimmyeon (Spicy Noodle) Buckwheat noodle served in spicy sauce topped with sesame seeds and egg. Moulnaengmyeon (Spicy Cold Buckwheat Noodles) Hot pepper paste is added to Naengmyeon to make a spicy version. Kalguksu (Hand-rolled Noodle Soup) Flour is kneaded into dough, then rolled out flat and cut into long thin strips. The noodle is usually cooked in chicken or anchovy stock, and then garnished with green onion. It s popular in winter. Naengmyeon (Cold Buckwheat Noodles) The noodle is served in cold beef broth and watery radish kimchi. Japchae (Stir fried Glass Noodle) Stir-fried sweet potato noodles with vegetables. Kongguksu (Noodles in Cold Soy Milk Broth) This noodle is made by soaking, boiling, and peeling the soybeans before purring into a thick broth. In Korea, soybeans are high in protein and is referred to as the beef grows in the fields. The soup is then garnished with cucumber strips. Savory Kongguksu is healthful and delicious dish.
